This sums it up nicely. Concorde provide consequence, not protection from lack of preparedness. They are many many ways to survive with valuables in hi-sec, do a search or something and learn some tips.
Been moving stuff around for almost 3 years now and have never been suicide ganked, but i take precautions, although there have been attempts, my preparations saved me.

Also... Dont leave covert ops ships afk at gates. That shiny covert ops cloaking device II in a paper ship makes my F buttons hot!

Seriously, hauling 500 M in a 1M ship (probably not tank-fit, either) is sheer lunacy, and especially doing it AFK. Cargo insurance is a bad, bad idea.
Also, congratulations on making the (nearly) perfect forum whine, with the 'I'll cancel my X accounts' threat in the end, but you really should've cited more accounts to make it really epic.
Saying "If you don't fix it, CCP, I'll cancel my 94 alt accounts!" would've been better from the drama aspect. Ah, well. You'll get it right when you lose another 500M industrial

Edited by: Sheriff Jones on 24/10/2007 11:48:42 Well an insurance, rouhgly, could be a reasonable thing in these numbers:
30% of your cargo base market value(or some such) will be the cost to insure your cargo. If the cargo is moved to another character, jettisoned, repacked, OR leaves your ships cargohold in any other way, the insurance is nulled. You do NOT regain your the ISK it cost to take the insurance in case of pewpew accident OR incase you deliver the goods.
The insurance only covers for the duration the items remain in the "insurance box", as in, your cargohold.
When your ship is destroyed, with the cargo in it, and you do not regain the cargo with the same character, you gain 70% of the value.
This way, delivering goods will cost 130% of the value, but if it gets destroyed, you get back some, and it doesn't encourage exploitation.

I think people should take precautions with their cargo.
Just because you're stupid with hundreds of millions of ISK worth of goods doesn't mean there needs to be insurance to cover your stupidity.
Being someone that lives in low sec, I know all about having to be cautious. When I need to move 600m in Salvage, do I buy a hauler, fit no modules and have a go across 5 jumps of low sec and hope for the best? Of course not. I shovel it all into a Buzzard, fit as good of a tank as grid will allow, check local intel channels, and go quietly.
If I need to move a hauler through there, I make sure it's a Badger Mark II with the best shield tank I can shoehorn in, along with a Cloak. If a corp mate is on, I ask for a scout. If not, I toss an alt out there.
If you're going to haul valuable stuff, but can't be arsed to spend a few hundred thousand ISK in "insurance" in the form of Shield Extenders/hardeners, then you deserve to lose everything you've stuffed into your fresh off the market Iteron I.

well why did you haul an expensive tower unprotected in a paperthin ship? you got hisec ganked? serves you right, tbh.
also tabula rasa is awful, it's all well and good for about the first 10 levels, then it's the same old constant grind and gets boring fast. also it's got more bugs than a 100 foot tall ant hill. i've been in the beta for ages, and i gave up on it, i was so sick of glitching through every bit of terrain and getting stuck, having missions get borked, instances going nuts, crafting not working whatsoever.
good luck with that, tbh.
in future, if you're moving something expensive like that, using a t1 hauler is probably not your best bet. and doing it solo is BEGGING to be ganked. to be fair, i immagine the gankers are also gutted - your tower exploded so they couldn't loot it and recover the losses of their concordoken.
of course if they were war targets, then you really earned that loss. ========================================== Iy

Just curious.
Personally I'd work it as a monthly fee and the higher the amount to be insured the higher the fee, obviously.
I'm trying to work out how you could include some variable where your premium would go up for losing cargo in a ship that wasn't a T2 Hauler of some variety.

I recommend all suiciders join together and make a Common Fisheries Policy for the Jita highways. We don't want to farm these haulers until they suffer a massic population collapse like the North Atlantic Cod. How about you can only put your Brutix to sea one day a week and no more than 10000m3 of loot can be landed?
Can someone make a few 'I Autopilot through Jita with 5B all the time and I've never been ganked, bad luck mate' posts as well.

Your comparison here is more like Collateral on courier contracts. If the courier you hired does get blown up, you get to keep the collateral, which is just like getting an insurance pay out. ------------------- 4 8 15 16 23 42 108 |

Firstly, if everything was insured and there was no risk of loss this would be pretty much like so many MMOs out there were dying carries no risk of real loss. That risk of loss is what makes EVE different.
Secondly, if it takes you months to make 500 mil ISK, you are doing it the hard way. Join a decent 0.0 corporation and you can earn that much easily in 2-3 weeks. Much faster if you really want to work at it.
