We are aware that a number of members of the Community are having difficulties connecting to the port for Tranquility and we have been investigating options on our part to ensure that our community is able to logon to EVE-Online without issue. If a user is experiencing difficulties connecting to our default port for Tranquility, you may now have the option to use port 3724. We recommend this port only be used if you are not able to connect to port 26000. Since this is not the official EVE port, support for connection issues will be limited.
In order to use port 3724, it will be necessary to open your C:|Documents and Settings|%USER%|Local Settings|Application Data|CCP|EVE|settings folder if you use XP or C:|Users|%USER%|AppData|Local|CCP|EVE|settings if you use VISTA and edit the PREFS.INI file. Please change the networkAdvanced=0 to networkAdvanced=1. You will notice that the Eve logon screen will now have a PORT option. Please type in 3724 into the box and connect as normal.

Not a bad idea using the same port as WoW, should be permitted in most networks.

"Unable to get serverstatus on other port then 26000" so says my client.
I've been unable to connect without using a proxy since June so this would really be great if I could get this to work. And thanks for your efforts CCP -----

Yeah, you won't be able to see how many players there are online and stuff. But if you hit connect you should log in with the correct settings

I still think you should forward _all_ ports in your router to TQ:26000 so we can chose any port we want in order to connect...
It took quite some time to open ONE additional port, why didn't you just slap on an entire range of ports while you were at it?

Edited by: Breal D''nie on 24/10/2007 17:40:27 I know very little about ports and such, but i thought the port number was specific to the router itself. ie port 3724 on ccp's server has nothing to do with 3724 on blizzards. just my ignorance possibly. also, could this possibly be a partial solution to reducing lag? if we could split the load to different ports, would that reduce the bottle neck? again, possibly noobish ignorance... :)

Thought I could help out here:
Every IP Address can be connected to by a number of services. These service sort themselves by ports. For example when you are using a web browser, you are connecting by port 80 - when using a 'secure' web site, port 443, or ftp 23. Some services also communicate on 'ad hoc' ports in higher ranges - on a more complicated level you might here people talk about ports being, 'open' or alternately 'forwarded' - this is an organization system for services. Technically any service (like EVE) can run on any port, but officially humanity has tried to organize them for better traffic management. If we didn't it would be really hard to run email, or the web in a consistent manner.
I don't know why this is happening to EVE really, but it sounds to me like some users ISP's are doing some traffic management. If this is true, I highly suggest to anyone who is experiencing this ccomplain to your ISP immediately. Support some hope of net neutrality for our civilization by engaging your rights as a consumer.

Edited by: ICE Blade on 24/10/2007 20:16:13 OK, its was working for me then eve kicked me about 1 hour ago on port 3724, can't log in on either port now Tiscali still blocking port 26000 and your one just times out now 3724. Just getting Authenticating for abour 2 mins then:
Connection FAILED Connection Timeout - The server did not respond to the client's secure-handshake request within a reasonable amount of time.
Its a good job I am going to talk talk, I hate Tiscali.

Why not just use port 80 and be done with it? That should be allowed through just about every firewall?

Unfortunatly some bright (l)ISPs (l for limited) transparently proxies connections to port 80. 443(https) might be a better choice as I've yet to see anyone doing any blocking/proxying for that port.

Here at the University of Bradford they have blocked port 26000. So for the last couple of months I have had to move between a continuous HTTP(S) proxy servers using proxy firewall v1.0.4 and then updating the list of proxies with new lists that are updated each week.
This may help anyone who still cannot get on to tranquility. btw when I use this new port I still cannot see this the server status. However I can still login and play just fine. so if it says sever status unknown don't worry just logon.
P.S. this is great work by the DEV's now only if they understand that the recent changes to carriers is a nerf because it is impossible to assign fighter drones because of the lag created in fleet battle and That's why people use them as solo machines.

Originally by: CCP Wrangler It's not their port, they don't own it.
It was assigned to them by the IANA. Who also assigned 26000 to Quake, and maybe that's the reason 26000 gets blocked or shaped in some places.
It would help if you picked a port that wasn't shared with somebody who will tempt ISPs to block or shape your traffic; maybe even go to the IANA yourselves and get one assigned to you.

Google AnalogX Portmapper
You can use software like this to portmap from your ip address:port to CCPs:Port
OFC its third party software and CCP will say if you get hacked, etc or it has nasties then you are screwed basically but its been around for years and ive been using it for years well that is until I bought a router.
