Edited by: Kaedrin Aldinon on 25/10/2007 15:26:09 I am playing around on a trial account and getting used to the game. Character is Gallente (I believe that's how it's spelled). I think I have picked up most of the basic information and gone through all of the missions with agent Houve in the Clellion solar system. My character is a miner and I have already started building up skill to upgrade from my Imiscus to a ship with a larger cargo capacity.
My question is, where do I go from here? What is the ideal solar system to head to for mining and to continue some agent missions. I tried to do a financial mission with an agent. I ended up having to battle a bunch of Serpentis initiate and scout ships. Still haven't killed the leader to complete the mission. But that is really not up my ally. I'm looking for work that promotes my mining. What would you guys suggest for a good solar system to make money and do agent missions that highlight my profression?

The agent missions if you want to mine aren't that great (if they even exist these days).
For mining, I found the best thing was to find a quiet out of the way system with either Omber or Kernite in and mine away, just doing it for the profit. If the station has a factory in it, then that is a bonus as there are likely to be manufacturers who will want your ore and minerals. It even gives you the option to start doing some manufacturing of your own, should you wish to go down that route.

Find a nice quiet place in the arse end of nowhere.
Thats the best place to mine.
The station you use, start running courier missions for whatever corp owns it for good standings. Standings give you better refine rates with less loss, along with Industry skills like Refining.
Courier missions are given by agents in deparments "distribution" "storage" and "archive". You can turn down 1 mission every 4 hours per agent without standing loss.

Thank you for the advice. I think I might try some mining in a .4 area for a while. When I did it last night I didn't have too many problems with pirates. Pretty much a warp and run tactic worked lol.

Pirates aren't the problem in low sec - you can avoid them easily enough. But the problem is other players who just want to warp in and vap your ship -- pod and all for no reason. Now I know that is legal in this game and I usually have no problem with PvP - but I hate people that gank you without even offering a chance to pay a ransom or such. Especially those that gank my pod.

Grab a shuttle and go searching for a good quiet place to mine. Keep in mind distance to a good refinery and other logistics if thats important to you.
Going in anything below 0.5 is risky. If anyone, anyone at all, is in the system with you or enters the system ..... you need to dock immediately. Even if they have positive security rating. A good ganker can enter the system and locate you in under a minute. They can also probe out safespots and mission spots.
If you really like the game, the next big step is to join a player corp. Theres a lot of player mining, manufacturing, and industrial corps. This will give you a purpose, people with similiar interests, numbers for protection, access to better things, and overall more fun.

In EVE the belt-pirates are almost always referred to simply as "rats". The term "Pirates" almost exclusively refers to other players who are playing as pirates.
In an effort to avoid pirates, try to stay away from any 0.4 system that abuts hisec space. Those systems are by far the most dangerous systems in lowsec. Just pick your system carefully and as long as you can handle the rats in the belt give it your all.
If you are Minmatar (all I see is the "!" for now) I highly recommend the Vigil hull for such scouting. It's pretty cheap, rather fast and you can fit 3 WCS's onto it. Add however many shield extenders you can fit and insure it. I know a shuttle is all kinds of fast, but it's not invulnerable to ships set up to "instalock" ships.

Edited by: Vivian Porter on 26/10/2007 13:43:54 He's Gallente, thus the Imicus.
Yes. Staying away from other players is the way to go. Go to the map and set the filter to show the number of pilots in the system. It has two variations - one for docked and one for flying.
This will let you see which systems are relatively uninhabited.
For right now - you don't have to worry about factions. Faction warfare is supposed to be coming but even then it's supposed to be confined to 0.0 and an election. So you can set up in any empires space you want. Amarr space for example is just full of Gallente & Caldari.
You'll want to move up to a mining barge as fast as you can. The Exequor Cruiser is a good mining cruiser and a big step up from the Imicus but don't spend any more time there than you have to - get yourself a Retriever to start with, skip the Procurer.
Then you can also get yourself an Iteron to haul your refined Minerals to market. The Iteron III is pretty easy to get.
You can also Jet Can mine, dumping your ore into a jettison can then making runs with the Iteron to fetch the ore into the base. All of which is another reason for out of the way places - as pirates will come along and steal your ore. In .8 space and below - you can use secure containers ... though they may be able to hack those. There are a lot of restrictions on anchoring them, so they're a pain in the rear to use but - if you keep them in your cargo bay - they hold more stuff than they take up room which increases your cargo capacity.
If you fit your industrial with good cargo expanders it can hold still more. Get the good ones though - not the civilian models.
Anyway - here's a link to a good miners guide: Halada's Mining Guide

You've finished the tutorial, and want to know what to do now?
Join Eve U, learn Eve basics, graduate, profit.
High-sec mining looks safe and profitable on the surface but it's not really much of either.
The safety is illusionary as ore thieves can steal your ore all day long and if you don't have friends there is precious little you can do about it. You can be suicide ganked easily and barge fittings are fairly profitable.
The profits from high-sec mining aren't that great from a time/ISK standpoint. Granted there will always be a demand for trit but it's no way to get rich.
