If you're uncomfortable with the idea of shield tanking, consider the Phoon - all the advantages of missiles (if there were any...), and armor tanks.

I've looked at several shield-tanked raven builds that I could fly and I've got two that'll do 12.3% more raw DPS at best, 4.1% at worst, and one that will out-tank my armor tank for a whole 1 minute and 26 seconds and even then if I go for the lower DPS option it'll out-tank during that 1.5 minutes by a whole .4%.

Oh, granted that on one of my higher DPS raven builds I could permarun a gist a-type XL booster and come close the the best tank my dominix can produce and tank 30% better than my armor raven but how much do those things cost these days?

You'll find that raw DPS actually matters a great deal with how fast you get your missions done - regardless of how much tank you go for. I'm a big fan of absolute gank in missions, and let kiting sort it out. I hear it doesn't work so well in all missions, but the ones I have run (semi-recently), it worked well. I won't pretend to be any sort of mission running guru though.

Honestly, I never really considered the raven for running missions, not even as a ship to screw around with while doing group mission blitzing. Ever since someone mentioned the idea of armor tanking the raven in another topic I've been looking at the raven more and more as a, for me, viable mission ship.

True enough, but I think you'd be happier in another ship for mission running. Also, the "Standard setups" for Ravens are constantly revised - and you don't have to run faction on it.
