OK so i lose a myrmidon, i attack a guy in .4 and kill his dessie, his m8s arrive and kill me with a drake and a stabber, I can live with this heh I killed my first ship ! but i noted for some reason i couldnt target the either of the two ships, the fdrake or stabber, couldn't or wouldn't lock them..?
So later on I lose my 2nd myrmidon in a mission, am learning missions so heh, i can handle this, sorta... so all afternoon i rekit, the bill so far is 100mish lost (Over 2 weeks of my time mining and stuff)
So i'm now smarter in missions, cept for the .4 one where a pirate and his m8 pop up and force me to pay 30m or die...
So my question - other than - if you are real rich feel free to sponsor me as im so poor you have no idea and have 2-3 weeks of mining ahead to cover future losses....
is why oh why couldnt I target the bad guys? 2 ships on me twice and both times i can't target anything...? my drones are hopeless just hovering around while im being wasted by players in smaller and faster ships...
How do i target them and to be frank if the answer is - you cant, then why would I carry on playing.. the missions are ok, the mining sucks after an hour, the pvp, well seems unless youve played for 2 years mebbe you can't even target em to shoot em??
Or did i miss a basic skill to train perhaps..?
(No ! heh hes an emo comments pls - after losing it all in 1 day am definitely wound up.)
I guess after typing this the only fun to be had in eve if i cant target people is to join a roaming gang and kill single guys who wont be able to target me....

They were probably jamming you. No skills to help, but there is ECCM which can keep you from getting jammed. Not normally used when running missions, more of a pvp fit. Browse the ECCM ship equipment to find the specific items.

Ya, you were probably jammed, or damped down so hard your target range was just past your nose. eccm or sensor boosters can help, but unless you KNOW your gonna be jammed, its not likely you'll have one fitted when u find a fight.

well i was jammed two times out of two so i guess im gonna fit em, but will they mean i can then lock these guys or is it as simple as in 2 v 1 u lose and no u cant lock them regardless so your 36m Myrmidon and your t2 drones are a complete waste of time..??
I sorta am ok about dying, heh its a game, but its nice to at least shoot back u know...

Edited by: Cipher7 on 26/10/2007 02:00:09 Dont fly what you cant afford to lose.
You should be flying frigs in gangs until you can afford to lose bigger ships.
Mining in highsec for 2 weeks to buy a ship and pi$$ it away in 2 hours is for the lose.

One thing I've become sadly aware of is that ship strength counts for very little in this game in absolute terms.
A powerful ship will help you against NPC's but against other Players - it really doesn't make that much difference at all.
Each time I've lost a ship I've learned a little more but they were each expensive lessons.
If you're low on funds ... I'd say to stay away from low sec until you can afford to replace what you're going in there with.
Just run some missions and mine until you get your funding back up - and - feel that you've taken measures to keep from dying the same way.
For me ... what I've learned - is that I've got a lot more skill building to do before I can take on these guys.
Just being able to lock them ... is only the first step. Then you've got to be able to hit them. Then you've got to be able to hurt them before they kill you. All of which are done better with better skills. If the other guy has a significant skill & experience advantage over you - regardless of the ship he's in - you're probably going to lose.

Solo pvp is HARD in this game for a new player. Theres so many tricks to pvp. Until you learn all the tricks, do some group pvp. Theres a couple corps that teach pvp classes.
If you really want to solo pvp anyways, do it in frigs. You will lose a lot, but it wont hurt as much, and you will learn.
If you like to shoot things and want to make money start working on your missions and agents. A L3 mission can get you 3-4 million after bounties and rewards. A L4 mission can get you 10+ million. You could replace that 30m ship in one day.
