Last night my corp mate was doing some quick laps of a system, killing all rats and leaving loot behind. He then proceeded to ask me if I could pick up to loot. I had no problem with it and jumped into to sweet quick Tristan and started picking up loot. Before I knew what was happening I was being locked and attacked by a Blackbird. I thought oh well, IÆm dead. The PK started webbing and warp scrambling me, and another 3 Blackbirds turner up and locked me. They all ceased fire and demanded 2mill for my release.
If this ever happens to you, just eject from your ship and warp out :D They were not expecting this and I think Frankinator, Candy and the crew felt slightly outplayed :P

But didn't they get a free ship and whatever loot you had picked up?

Tristan + loot < 2mil
Economically, I'd have to say Bean got the better deal.

DUDE.. I hope you weren't flying a cruiser, they just made 3.5mil for a low end lvl 1

Well, the cost of a Tristain and some very low level loot. Small change compared to a new clone.
Just seeing the look on their faces was worth the minute cost.

Is it still possible to self destruct your ship whilst sitting in a pod? I read somewhere you can still right click on your ship and the option to self destruct it still applies.
That would "have made their day" watching your pod warp out while your ship explodes - leaving 'em with nothing to loot

Yep. Only thing here is they were all in Blackbirds--I don't think they'd have ejected from one to steal a Tristan. They probably just blew it up in frustration.

Yes, but unlike G-G. We don't ransom frigates, cruiser nor industrials. We just blow them up.
