IMO it will be like playing sim city, IE get boring very fast. Its pretty to look at, but nothing you do has any real consequence. Somebody conquered your npc empire that you built by yourself(rofl at being able to do that)? No problem! Just fly for 10 minutes in a random direction and start a new one! It'll be a bunch of solo players or small groups of players carebearing to their heart's content. There will be runaway inflation because there are no real money sinks in that game and it will be farmer infested.
All that will matter is how much money you have in your wallet(which I'm sure 2 weeks after it comes out you can buy on ebay) and nothing else. Its the ultimate carebear land.
I for one see that as an extremely boring game. What good is building a giant empire with thousands of players(like people do in eve) if it has no impact whatsoever? People will simply run to some other part of the universe far away and enjoy the same benefits as you do even with all your teamwork and dedication.
You can't know that. Areas in the Galaxy are not created equal, and if you own a good one, the next comparable spot might be hundreds of light years away. Plus you actually have to find it first, which will be a challenge in its own right. Once you found it, it's vulnerable.
Running is an option in Eve too - you will always find a new alliance or can rent space, or join new or old allies. In Eve, you can go anywhere in 0.0 and expect to be able to support your corp or alliance. In Infinity, you have no idea where the Crokite is.
The logistical train in Infinity is somewhat different to Eve, namely that all ships have running costs and need fuel. If you don't find an area for your new empire that a) pays the bills and b) is close enough to the core you have to go to "empire" all the same. Go too far out, and you will waste your time with hauling your crap out there, and not doing anything else. Chances are you will also have to go through somebody else's space.
Where everything depends on money, you need to think much more economically. You won't find pirates with bounties in every belt to give you ready money, you won't even find resources in every belt. It's pure supply and demand, and money sinks like running costs, crew wages etc., are planned.
This is not carebear central. For example, no high sec will exist in Infinity, it's all lowsec or 0.0. The possible exceptions are the immediate environs of newbie starting points. In other words, 3 or 4 solar systems out of 200 billion. Pirates will be able get into "empires", gank the carebears and fly out into "0.0", with the destruction of the pirate not at all guaranteed. It will be pretty difficult though in more secure systems. There will be no safety. Nowhere. For good pilots, it's ganker's delight. If you accept the consequences.
