Couple things:
1) CCP didn't TRY to fix insta-BMs they did and they found that it was too unpopular to do so. This can be laid to rest and people can stop quoting the ancient chat with TomB as it is now obsolete.
2) Insta-BMs are used MAINLY for travel and other general purpose (non-PvP) scenarios. Yes they do come in handy to fly past a blockade now and again but that is a VERY small % of the time.
3) Contrary to typical hype they DO NOT remove all the danger from travel. They essentially remove the risk for 50% of travel through any given system. Since they don't help you get into warp any sooner this is just a simple fact and can't well be disputed.
4) Having to ramp up to warp speed (75%ish) of top speed was obviously put in to help out those who seek to PvP. This and the various agility nerfs go hand in hand for catching people jumping into a system.
5) I don't think blockades are meant to be 100%. There should be build outs available that give pilots a CHANCE at running them. Absolutes are unattainable in the physical universe as well they should be in Eve.
6) Most pirates only calculate lootable items / tolls as net earnings. This is not the true math on the subject. Example: If pirate corp A is worth 1 billion and mining corp B is worth 1 billion then when corp B loses a tier 2 BS to corp A and they loot say 5 mil worth of mods the net difference would look more like: corp A 1.05 bil and corp B .9 bil. This works both ways obviously so losses MUST be taken into account when calculating the profitability of a given activity.
7) People should be able to blockade regions to 'protect' their space. This of course should require a considerable effort as the gains for doing so are immense. Unrestricted hunting and mining (now with new stations) is quite a boon.
8) The fact that some will inevitably slip through can be compensated by roaming hunting parties where they see unauthorized people on the map. After all if the person is never able to establish an op out there because of constant harrassment then the goal is basically achieved.
9) There are two basic types of pirating, gate camping and roaming. Gate camping (0.0) requires MUCH less work but if you have a decent sized party you may tend to get more passers by in choke points. Roaming can be very difficult and can generally be done with fewer pilots but usually results in less marks especially if those doing it have big red wanted signs on them.
Anyway sorry for the long post, just wanted to put a little more data out there that will hopefully not be taken as being too bias.

Quote: If instajumping is an intended game mechanic, then why the **** cant you warp to gates at 0k directly from the list at the top left?
Because instead of giving it to people they have to create these assets. Much like exploring.
Quote: It's not supposed to work that way- just get some friends to move our blockade, instead of being a hypocritical ***** and saying we're the cowards because your friends are too pathetic to attack us, leaving indies as our only targets some nights
I think it is painfully obvious the uselessness of attacking blockades. Let's say a superior force arrives to move the blockade and the pirates scatter to the four winds and log off or sit at a safe spot. As soon as the force has left you return. Or worse yet simply set the blockade 1-2 systems up the chain of the corridor. So now the people "protecting" the corridor get to remain static and make 0 isk.
Quote: You can tell yourself that you deserve to get by a rifter or 2 because you "did your homework," but really it takes like an hour for a group of friends to bookmark a 60 jump trip and copy them over for each other. Then those 4 or 5 guys can make infinite copies, set escrows for allied CEOs to distribute to their corps.
You accuse the above poster for being hypocritical yet you make a claim that a 60 hop round trip takes a mere hour to bookmark? It is obvious by this statement that you don't know their side of the story as you claim they know not yours. Hyperboyle is what leads the topic into senseless bickering and should be avoided.
I can guarantee you that the harder it becomes to run blockades the less traffic you will see. Since many complain of low traffic anyway why not try to promote ideas which give odds of running them so that at least the traffic doesn't comepletly die out?

Quote: could someone who is not an ******* like i am explain to this guy how bookmarks work without writing down routes? by eve-mail perhaps?
I'll give it a shot.
Set your destination to the place you want to go (but do not activate AP)
Open 'places' and sort by # jumps.
Take a peek at the next system your supposed to go to in the upper left corner of your screen and use that BM.
Used to be that 'places' took just shy of forever to bring up if you had alot of BMs and so organzing them in folders was crucial.
Now that they have added the right-click in space option to view the BMs for that system it is even easier.
As for sheer amount of time / work, I will say that when every single damn patch was wiping the BM folders it took hours to recreate all the folders for them to go in etc... Because every time you had to drag a BM to a folder the whole list had to refresh and that would take about 2 minutes per BM (no joke).

Quote: having bookmarks is like giving the fish hands. You'll cast out your bait, and the fish (due to some unforseen genetic error) simply grab the hook with one hand, and pull the bait off it with the other, eat and leave.
More like insta-BMs give the fish the smarts to nibble the bait off the hook instead of being a dumbass and sucking the whole bloody thing down.
