Tastes bad, like all good stuff does 
Pronounciation depends on where in the world you are from. Just say you need "some of that bran-wine-stuff" and most will get the idea...

Like someone who hates you made a Vodka for you.
And if some Icelandic <censored> offers you their traditional speciality, shark that was buried a century ago and dug up just for you, so you could wash it down with some Brennvin....well, just punch them in mouth right there.

Most people would find it sickening unless they come from Skandinavia in general.... I will warn you not to drink too much, as you will get so wasted. (tastes best when served REALLY cold, so you can't taste the vile taste).

The man speaks the truth. I think it's only distilled to fool foreigners into tasting it. As an example my mate took a 2L bottle with us to Denmark this summer. Sadly all the Danes we wanted to fool into drinking it had fell for it before and grown wiser from the experience... so we used it as a disinfectant and then ''forgot'' it at another mates place. I expect it will still be there next year and will continue it's existence as a disinfectant.
Ah, and it's pronounced: [ˈbrɛnːɪvʊin] if phonetics make any sense to you.

i done what the other devs in the channel should have done....moved the topic to out of pod 
and it taskes worse than you could ever imagine. if they forced Rambo to drink it, he would have given in within seconds and told the bad dudes everything

I don't know about idelandic BrSnnvin, but some of the swedish brewed brSnnvin is actually quite drinkable. I think it can be pretty much described as pretty strong alcohol that has been spiced for flavour. Some brands just makes the alcohol taste even more.. others have a more smokey taste while others taste of spices you'd use in cooking. Some are highly enjoyable, others are, borderline disgusting unless you're already a bit tipsy.

If you ever come to sweden, then try the Sksna Akvavit, maybe not really a BrSnnvin but in my opinion that's the best one. Otherwise go for the O. P. Anderson... Good stuff when you're feasting on a big Christmasdinner!

Don't see what's wrong the stuff though. If it's even remotely similar to Swedish brSnnvin (it should be) it's not that bad. You just have to keep in mind that you don't drink it to get drunk, it's served as a schnapps with dinner, sometimes to make revolting food edible. A certain kind of meal, a good beer and a bit of brSnnvin is a match made in heaven. I still don't eat fermented fish though.
Ok, I've scratched dung pits with leeches and electric shocks off my torture list, brennivfn is apparently the way to go. Seems like it'll work on devs too, good to know...

I tried Brennivfn (black death) when in iceland for the tourney... I remember spiral and myself drinking it... then not a great deal after that late on other than an incident involving icelandic traffic cones, myself, stavros, spiral and the inside of the eve-tv house.
It's really nice stuff, goes down a lot smoother than Vodka, and IMO is far more potent and superior.
As for Opal... I smelled it and that was enough for me... apparently it tastes like cough syrup

Is the icelandic version the one with a piece of lichen in it?
If that's the case, then I've tasted it. It's not one of the best imo, there are others that are far superior.

So Brennivin is the same thing as Akvavit? I have had Akvavit (to me had it pronounced as Aqua-veet) pushed on me by a friend who dug it. Foul stuff.
Only thing worse I have ever had is a liquor called Malort which is similar (as I remember but been awhile now) to Akvavit. Honestly the stuff tastes like insecticide. Just awful. The makers claim 49 out of 50 people who try it never try it again...I think they are being generous in that assessment.
Although sitting in a pub with some old timers (70+ and looked like they never left that bar stool ever) we got to talking about it and they swore up and down that Malort and water was excellent to settle an upset stomach. Note they said to not mix the Malrot and water which is supposedly nasty (how it could be worse boggles the mind) but you drink a shot and chase it with water. I dunno about that but from them it had the ring of wisdom born of hard lessons. Personally I'd rather drink a liter of Pepto Bismol.

Brennivfn is disgusting, but it makes hair grow on your chest.
Try a vodka called Reykjavodki, its said to be one of the best vodkas around (havent tried it yet tho)
Also the Opal and t=pas shots are quite popular.
Not so hard! Air gets in between. |

Heard of it, but never tried it - I recently tried an absinth... thats a devil hits like a mule - especially because this was good stuff and we drank it the proper way - without fire and all that.

And to the op I find Brennivfn tastes alot like holegrain bagles atleast the icelandic once, and it is drinkable in the quantities of 1-3 shots but the only reason any one buys it is to look cool or save money since you arent gonna drink that much of it and can use the same bottle weekend after weekend untill you go insane.
