no, not to train. TO DO. TO FLY.
once reached the battleship, there's nothing else to do except waiting several month to get skills up. heck, i am flying lvl4 missions on quite a good success with T1/named stuff... evemon tells me i'll be done with T2 training in 3 month. THREE MONTH... what the **** am i gonna do in the meanwhile? NOTHING.
I am in the same boat as you are in many ways. I fly a Cane and I do not see a "need" for anything else in my line of work. (BTW love the sig) I have to train my butt off to be able to pick my nose with a Tech II Nose picker and later I will have to train even more for that Tech III Booger Stripper (lol sorry, getting carried away) but that is life here. The graphics upgrades, the planets being open to explore, the stations possibly having more life, and the idea that I might DO something in the Faction Wars instead of just lousy missions all sounds great to me. Yes, they are throwing old dogs new bones. Yes, they will pwn all over us with them, but big whoop. That is what they do now, they will just do it quicker (Less painful that way right?). There will always be that Elitism and advantage in EvE and frankly nothing can be done but to ignore them. Who cares what they got? I want what I want. I do not care if some guy is in a big 0.0 Alliance with a Titan, Good for him, I will be happy to fly my Cane the best it can be flown.
I guess what I am saying is that there is a lot of little achievements to be proud of for yourself or a small group of friends. Do not worry about what the big boys got. If you want it then work towards that goal. If you are getting Pwned in PvP and cannot afford it then maybe you should just grit your teeth and make the Isk till you CAN afford to loose your ship. In the meantime try to figure out why the other guys beat you and think hard on what if anything you can do to stop them next time (including looking carefully for a better target). EvE PvP is very hardcore and can be lacking in fenesse due to overpowered Characters that you pretty much stand no chance against which can make it less than fun or exciting but you can always try to outsmart them. Just because they can fly the uber ship does not mean they are immune to temptations or unable to be lured into traps. Devise something truly evil and make them wish they never played the game .
I also agree with the majority though, if you are doing this all alone this game is just going to suck for you. You do not NEED an Alliance to have fun (maybe to be recognized) but even a small Corp with a few friends can make things better. After all, your little accomplishments and even the big ones feel hollow if no one but you cares. That is true to life though.
If you just cannot get around those huge skill waiting times (which do suck IMO) then either it is time to hang your hat or play another game while you wait. No reason to play EVE all the time while skill training. Halo 3 & Prime 3 are out and more is coming every day.
