What exactly is the "Monolith" in the Dead End system near New Eden? Does anyone actually know what it is or where it's from or how it got there? Or is it just there without any explanation or reason?
-----sig-starts-here------ Why is there a "Don't show Signatures" option in the forum settings? If someone doesn't want a signature, whats wrong with just leaving this box blank? |

Darn.. I was hoping it had more significance to the EvE universe...
It seems like the Devs made all these pretty landmarks and special locations but then forgot about them...

Yes, there are a lot of interesting places written into the Eve map that are not accessible or meaningful in any way. The Jove race comes to mind. You must remember that Eve is a sandbox and to change Eve with mystique and meaningful singularities would be to **** in the sand. At least that's how I feel about it.

/offtopic: Your sig=way too true.
I guess you have a point, but it would be nice for them to have some meaning, after all they did get effort put into them and it would be fun to explore the universe if you could find places and learn their backstories.
Even making complexes seem more alive, like they actually have a purpose, instead of just being a place with rats, structures, and particle effects. It just seems like the only significant thing is 0.0 blobathonage.

It depends what kind of game you want to play. I don't like games that are written for me. I want a game like a blank stretch of canvas that I get to paint on myself. Eve is the closest approximation I've seen (that was not Hello Kitty Offline) and I've stuck by it for that.
To me, the story of Eve is the story of capsuleering, of the moral wasteland of the affluent superclass, of the things people do simply because they can afford to. The races are inconsequential. The factions are inconsequential. The players who cling to those scraps of backstory are increasingly boring to me. I used to shoot Amarr RPers because I thought Minmatar RP was hip and fun. Then I realized it was more acting than playing. Now I'm forging my own role. That is why I made my way to the Star Fraction.
Err, maybe I'm getting a little bit deeper into the topic of role play than I meant to, but my point is that I can forego the lack of singularities in Eve for the clean backdrop it provides for me to explore the nature of character.

There are more than a few Easter Eggs, the Monolith being one of the more commonly known (and visited by those with the patience to do so). Others include a large sign in a the middle of space, the number used to seed the formula for the creation of the EVE galaxy map, and many more.

Perhaps it's left over from the very early days of development. The graphics department had to practice a bit first
Maybe it'll be upgraded to DX9 as part of the coming patch. DX8 black looks so dated. -- (Battle hardened industrialist)
