So, a mate in Eve had been banging on about this for a while... apparently an RPG based around the engine of an FPS... in post apocalyptic London.
Well, being a fan of games that portray a post apocalyptic setting, and single player FPS games, I decided to download the demo from fileplanet and see wtf it was all about.
Anyone else played it? What you think?

I, in all honesty, think it sucked balls big time. Outdated graphics, annoying voice acting.
Diablo 2 w/ LOD is much better.

Played the demo thing and was massively let down. Unless it's a terrible representation of the full game, it's a real classic example of a good concept being absolutely trashed by terrible implementation.

The demo was eh, but I've been hearing from people in the Beta that it gets better, and the demo wasn't a good representation.

I loved the demo, and have ordered the game on the strength of it... Am planning on taking a couple of months away from EVE and have bought/Pre-Ordered the following games to keep me amused:
Hellgate: London Crysis (****ing awesome game) Resident Evil 4 (love the whole series, never played it on PC before) Guild Wars (just to get my MMO fix whilst away from EVE)

So let's say that's the case. You'd rather not have the option to play it for free, but be forced to pay?

QFT
Although someone pointed me to this NPC and if that is actually in game and not someone dubbing audio over it then it almost gives me hope again.
But mostly unless the demo was somehow a terrible representation of the game I'll be giving this one a pass.

Well...from what I see looks like an advantage to me. "Elite" players (those who pay $9.95/month) get the following:
* Multiplay will be free! * Elite Multiplay will cost $9.95 a month * Secure, closed servers hold your characters, even if you're not Elite * Elite players get 24/7 phone and online support; plebs get basic online support as with any other game * If there are queues to get on a server, Elite players go to the front * Elite players can have 12 characters in total; plebs get 3 * Elite players can store around 40 items in "lockers" spread throughout the world; plebs can have 20. Elite players can also transfer these items to characters on other servers; plebs cannot * Elite players get unique gear and can wield the most powerful weapons in the game. Said weapons can also be emailed by the Elite to others of their kind * Elite players can board shuttles that transport them quickly to hard-to-reach corners of London * Elite players can become officers of guilds and own, enter, or operate player housing and guild buildings; plebs can be members of guilds, but will not be allowed to enter said buildings, or purchase property for themselves * Elite players get access to more gametypes; plebs not allowed into servers or areas where those gametypes are operating * Elite players will get new content each month, such as new monsters, new gametypes, new items, and so on

Damn shame to see it turn out the way it did. I'm not too bothered about the gfx, yeah, they suck, but the game itself handles horribly.
It reminds me of playing deus ex, it was a great game but the way you looked round was very 'wooden'. Also firing your guns is just horrible, there was no feeling of it being a part of your character.
Those jumping monsters were utter pants too!
The intro looked awesome, but alas, the game fails. It could have been so good, damnit!

It's not what I say. It is what the developers are saying. If that stuff doesn't exist talk to them but that is what they are promising.

Played the demo, i was bored out of my mind. What sticked out the most was the complete lack of voice overs... That was OK in Neverwinter Nights, but not now, especially if you have to read all the descriptions in such a small window.
It's all incredibly dilluded somehow... 500 merchants in the first hub you get into, all selling 2 or 3 items. Quest exclamation marks above characters heads... It worked well in mmorpg's, but this isn't an mmorpg, and it certainly does not fit in the style of the game.
It all sounded like a good idea, untill someone screwed it up... I'll stick to Diablo 2 on this one, and wait for the proper sequel to it rather than play Hellgate.

Subscription Details as of launch.
The queue nonsense, server transfers, and specialized servers for added content does not exist. They have the same item drops open to both sides until actual new content is introduced. Player housing does not exist. Shuttles do not exist. --------

Note that the link you provided specifically notes those details as "Ongoing Content" so would not address something like queue preference. And if you look there are specialized servers, or at least areas, that only subscribers can access. From your link:
Quote: Themed Events and Items
These are events, areas, monsters, quests, pets and rewards that are available for limited periods of time throughout the year. Some are recurring while others may only happen once, so keep a sharp watch for announcements on upcoming events!

Well got my copy of this through the post today and liking it so far, although the whole chat system seems a bit crappy but meh.
The major thing im not liking at mo is the whole people not grouping and such, so it pretty much is a single player game, except for the hubs you see a glimpse of some other players.
If theres any EU folks who want to hook up on there and on ts or vent or somthing for groups and such let me know, im currently lvl 8 btw.
