So recently my self and a few others got word that Intrepid crossing made some of the finest cookies  in all of eve. Being that we are huge fans of cookies we felt this was a story that was crying out to be investigated and decided that a roadtrip to IC space was in order so that we could sample these fine delights for ourslves. Our gang of noble ladies and gentlemen consisited of speed ships etc (to reach the cookies before they went cold) and we came in peace  however it seems that intrepid crossing dont like to share there cookies with outsiders  and instead wanted to be greedy and keep them for themselves and to show how much they tresure there cookies and there secret recipe decided to lay out the welcome wagon for us by droping there entire cap fleet plus support on what was only around 10 of us in interceptors etc, in what seemed to be a huge slice of overkill. Now i may be mistaken here but intrepid just what are you playing at? Are your cookies really that good that they must be protected at all costs? is the lack of action in your neck of the woods so bad that everyman and his dog within your alliance is willing to come out to play for such a small gang? or have i got things so terribly wrong? and infact you are just a good bunch of friendly people that is willing to lay out the entire fleet and red carpet to welcome anyone that has taken the time to sample your delights no matter how small in size they may be?

We defend our space vigorously, if you don't like it, don't come. With as many large size enemies as we have essentially in our back yard if we aren't ready to hit any invaders with full force we run the risk of ending up like some of the other recent drone region entities.
We aren't anyone's personal playground so don't expect too much of a "playful" response from us.
And don't worry Nhoj, we have a few more tricks. There is just no reason to show your hand before its time.

If you use them in a fashion that *supports* your non-caps and keep them in areas that are not accessible by enemy caps it is more than a reasonable method of ensuring you are prepared for when that roaming gang turns into 60.
Live in our space, our shoes and then you can chime in on our choice of tactics.
Rapiers and Huggins are some of our favorite defense ships (since everyone and their mother seems to have the need for nano crap) so before you go getting your panties in a wad about our seeming excessive use of force know we also understand the dangers of cap ship defense.
Plus, we will probably just switch to Dreds for a change of pace ;) Most of our carrier pilots fly dreds so 25 Dreds meeting a nano gang should be worth the price of admission...even if we don't actually hit anything with them.

The whole lol-cookies thing on the internet is old and fails, please stop it.
On topic: I know a few reasons to ''blob'' you like they did;
Nano gangs can be a pain in the ass, so they dropped caps on you and scared you off, seems like they accomplished their mission. And please, like you wouldn't have ganked a single target on a gate with your ten guys, doubt you'd have been all ''Oh it's only one of them, let him be''. So even though it might not have been needed, it was infact the best thing to do to get rid of you.
Also, when you start asking for x's in alliance chat, it's a bit stupid to say, ''no sorry guys, we've already got [x amount of] people, so if we let you join there won't be a challenge''. If you do that, people will soon just ignore the calls for help in alliance chat. And yes, people like it when they can get in a fast pew pew close to home.

At the very least it's good practice for cap pilots. New carrier pilots need experience, even if it's against a tiny hostile fleet. Practice sending fighters out, repping friends, etc etc. Yeah you can do this outside your station in a practice fight, but nothing like shooting reds/neutrals with your blood pumping to get the experience needed.

Actually, now that I look at the OP's signature I can see hes from Species. I assume you were the small group of Smash/RK that came in late last night.
The reason you got that response was two fold.
1. We were just finishing up a carrier/empire trip with 18 carriers in the group. We got back to our home system and a 10 man Pure nano gang was engaging one of ours in a belt. We chased them off directly from our jump bridge with a simple warp in and not 2 minutes later you were spotted with a "smash in ISO" in our intel channel.
2. The day before nearly 90 RK/Smash, Atlas and Chaos Incarnate showed up to our 30 and as I said earlier, where we live you have to assume where there are 10 there are 50+ more behind. So many of our guys just stayed in their carriers while a few others went and got anti-nano ships just in case.
We do understand the dangers associated with using caps but we also understand the danger of losing our space. It happened once, we will tooth and nail down to the last ship, isk and man before it happens again.

Yes i was one of them that came up, now dont get me wrong, you say you will defend your space and credit to you, so far you have, hell its good to see people that bring a fight and dont just give in, just seemed a bit much IMO but you say you have your reasons, so fair do to you.

It came up in team speak once we trapped you in 4-Q that we were overdressed for the occasion. We waited the 10 or so minutes to see if you were just the first wave and our big ships returned home leaving our small ships to wait you out.

If someone wants to spend 750 million isk on a carrier and rat in it...why do I care? If it makes him or her happy, knock yourself out. Every cap pilot in our alliance understands that caps are ships that are meant to be used and lost. They are after all just internet spaceships..pew pew.

When its 90ish vs 30ish, we generally opt for prudent...we man the POS guns. I do find the numbers talk from a member of a larger alliance (Smash) that in most cases travels with another larger alliance (Roadkill) and lately brings two other alliances (Atlas and Chaos Incarnate) along for "the gangbang" a bit silly.
We do not claim to be the best PVPers nor the best home defenders. We have had alliances like TRI or groups like Outbreak come into our space and show us how high the bar is and how far we still have to grow to reach it. We strive to learn from each of those premier experiences and understand that sometimes it takes a good ass kicking to get you moving in the right direction.

Personally i think it's commendable that they have so many pilots willing to answer the call every time there is an enemy gang spotted. I have seen alliances that ignore cries for help when one of their own is attacked in a home system because the majority of their members couldn't be bothered stopping whatever they are doing at that particular moment. It IS dangerous to use a predictable tactic like bringing a large cap fleet every time but imo the IRC guy explained it pretty well. Nice to see a thread where enemies show a healthy respect for one another.

seriously, some people miss haring frege around cause the gave good fights. If all you do is give boring carrier blobs in response to roaming gangs, some people might forget why they let you hang around.

IC have been known to drop 4 caps and support on a lone interceptor. so for those of us who know... yay... and those of you who dont... youve been warned... of course the second you take out that cyno jammer of theirs i bet they wont be so keen to play.

I wasn't going to make an in depth post on this thread - afterall, as noted before, this is CAOD and 'making sense' is not a valued commodity around here - but maybe there's someone reading this who will appreciate it.
So, first as a brief synopsis to the 'PvPers' - if you're happy, and we're happy, and there's fun pewpew to be had by both sides.... why are we sitting around talking on a forum again? Let's get back to business!
Capitals are a tool. They work. Because they work, they're used. How many carpenters do you know who only carry a Swiss Army Knife in their tool pouch? How many of them carry a hammer? ... The carrier loss mentioned in this thread caused a discussion of tactics within IRC (again). But really, (in my viewpoint, not necessarilly that of IRC) it's simple. The guy that lost the Thanatos made about 1.8B isk during it's life. He lost (after insurance) about 1B isk. Drones require a lot of cargo to haul alloys (thanks CCP), so carriers are much more efficient than BS - we estimate that either making trips with a BS, or using an alt to haul alloys causes a 50% drop in productivity. So, 1.8B / 2 = 900m isk, and whether the guy used a Thanatos or a BS is pretty much a moot point - as long as you have the ability to build replacements rapidly.
Which is an interesting discussion in itself. A few months after Dreads were released, while ASCN still existed and we were in it, I made the suggestion that one day wars in Eve would be won, not by who had more dreads, but by who could replace lost dreads the fastest. Sadly, that comment was by and large ignored - only a few corps in ASCN could produce capitals, and the largest producer built them in Empire. At the same time, D-R started building a portfolio of Capital BP's, and both D-R and AWE (the major two corps in IRC) produce all of our own capitals, onsite. One carrier loss is a footnote. Not sure about the Thanatos - it was an AWE pilot, and my Thanatos BPO is in research atm - but the last pilot that lost an Archon had a new one available about an hour after he lost it. Most of our pilots can fly carriers, many have at least one, quite a few have alts that also have carriers, and it's not unheard of for a pilot to have spare carriers waiting in their hangar should one be blown up.
Now, for the record, solo ratting in a carrier, partially AFK, in a fringe system, is NOT a recommended practice. Solo carriers in battle die - quickly. Even low numbers of carriers die to the right setup. However, as the practices used by MC and Goons in fleet fights show, large numbers of carriers compared to the enemy fleet size are an exceptional force multiplier.
Is it our only trick in the book? No. But they work. Your complaining about it here in CAOD proves they work. (BTW, it's kind of funny, because I remember times in Eve when BS and even cruisers created these same types of discussions - WTH, a mining APOC?? It's a warship!!!!111) The only hard and fast rule in Eve in regards to ships, is don't use it if you can't afford to lose it. A corollary to that rule, is that if you use it enough, there's the expectation that one day you WILL lose it. We're not running around creating threads whining about losing carriers, and you claim you think it's a jackpot when you see them on the field - so what was the purpose of this thread again?

We have no obligation to explain what our purchasing agreement included on either side of the coin suffice to say the GOONs were compensated for their property as were we with our space. It goes without saying, but I will anyway, the GOONs helped us get back on our feet after we were pushed out of our space by BOB and for that we consider them allies. We help them as we can and they have been most helpful reciprocally.
I won't bore you to tears with our last 5 months history except to note that our small alliance was removed from its space in Feythabolis in early May including losing 40 Billion in assets to a BOB freigher ambush. We were nearly bankrupt and barely hanging on with a broken morale. Since that point we have dropped two stations, produced several "big" ships, a solid cap fleet and built a small but solid alliance structure.
We aren't perfect. We know in the bigger scheme of the long time and elite players of EVE we barely register if at all on the radar. We certainly are not the worlds best PVPers but we are learning and adapting with each encounter. I can say though that I am puzzled why such a large and established pair of alliances like Smashkill are so bothered by a small alliance like us.
Oh well, I guess I lose some e-honor with my posting after promising not to but you can't leave misinformation out there.

the guy who made the op hasn't been in RK very long so he prolly wasn't used to your tactics (the rest of us who had been around awhile call it carrier chaining)
the rest of us could really care less and actually don't mind it cause it gets us carrier kills
and we're taking the opportunity to smack and ****post cause we'd never never taken the time to do it to you before

We defend our space vigorously, if you don't like it, don't come. With as many large size enemies as we have essentially in our back yard if we aren't ready to hit any invaders with full force we run the risk of ending up like some of the other recent drone region entities.
We aren't anyone's personal playground so don't expect too much of a "playful" response from us.
And don't worry Nhoj, we have a few more tricks. There is just no reason to show your hand before its time.
To drop carriers on every roaming gang is the worst thing you can do, strategically. But well ... not everyone is born with a brain bigger than a peanut.
Unless you only drop some, in the hopes that they drop a few more caps in what they think is a reverse trap, and you then bring in the rest you had on standby....
