I did know smoske, he was a great guy, but many people have passed away who are important to members in Eve. I dont think its ever appropriate to mock the dead however in my opinion station names are free for a power to change as and when they conquer.
TRI has a memorial station in Spawny/Lokikh's name but do we expect this to remain the name forever, of course not.
Those of us fortunate enough to have known smoske will remember him well, whether a station is named after him or not. I dont think bringing up the past, especially in this forum will do any good to anyone.

Thank you for this incredibly mature response to this situation. I would like to say personally I'm sorry that Smoske died, as I am sorry about almost all death. I don't particularly like Smoske "jokes" because they're rarely funny beyond the level of shock value. There are deaths that are inherently entertaining, like Darwin Award candidates, or bad people who get their just desserts, but I don't think Smoske was either of those. By the sound of it he was just a nice guy who contributed a lot to the Eve community and then, unfortunately, got killed.
I also sincerely believe that Xiaodown is attempting to use the memory of Smoske, who by his own admission he never knew, for some personal political purpose. Believing that, I am genuinely angry with him, and I hope you will consider some kind of disciplinary measure against him or his corporation. If I had my way political discussions in Eve would never involve Smoske in any way ever again. Let him be remembered by those who knew and loved him, and let the rest of us not be given any reason (by hypocrites like Xiaodown) to think or speak ill of Smoske.
I'm glad that STK are keeping the name of the station, and if it were our station I would vote for us to keep its name as well, because although I never knew Smoske, I wouldn't regard the political goal of ****ing off people like Xiaodown as being worth any actual distress that might arise for those who really knew the poor guy.
This post is not an apology for our antics, and it's not about "what pubbies think about us", it's just from me to the people who actually knew Smoske to say good on you for remembering an ordinary, decent guy, and I hope I never do anything to disrupt that for you, and **** anyone who tries to exhume the poor bastard for political purposes every few months.
