James 315 GoonFleet GoonSwarm	Posted - 2007.10.31 19:01:00 - [1] The Band of Brothers declared war against ASCN, the largest alliance in Eve, and conquered its three regions in a campaign lasting one hundred days. From the beginning of Eve, the same core group of players has dominated the game. These players would eventually form the Band of Brothers alliance and sweep across the map, destroying or subjugating everything in their path. After the conquest of ASCN, the remaining non-aligned powers formed a defense pact to avoid being picked off one-by-one. A month later, BoB declared war against the RSF. D2 and the powers of the north made good on their agreement and launched a second front against BoB, and the Great War was born. In the beginning, the Coalition scored victories against BoB and its allies. But the optimism of the early days turned to disappointment, frustration, and finally horror as BoB and its allies destroyed D2 and shattered the northern bloc. The regions of the north became dominated by a collection of BoB allies called "The New North." While nominally independent, the New North took its marching orders from NOL. BoB then turned its attention to the southern front, deploying unkillable ships called titans, which could evaporate an entire enemy fleet anywhere in the system at the touch of a button. BoB reversed its early losses and gobbled up region after region. If BoB succeeded, there would be no one left with the strength to challenge them. The Coalition had been the last-ditch effort of Eve to prevent a one-empire galaxy from taking total control, and it appeared to be doomed to failure. But Titan Online became Eve Online again when titans were altered to become killable. BoB's performance naturally suffered as a result, and they began to lose ground. But from the perspective of all parties concerned and unconcerned, BoB appeared to be in no great danger. Wars ebb and flow, and BoB was still on the offensive. BoB did not believe it was possible to lose, and its enemies did not want to be burned again by false hope. As for the rest of Eve, they received little or no news, and what they did hear was filtered through BoB. On the forums as on the battlefield, it was and had always been dominated by BoB and those loyal to them. No one could see the truth of the day, much less that of the future. But there was one voice of dissent. It came from a small but proud corporation known as Yet Another CAOD-Inspired 1-Man Alt Corp. Often referred to by its affectionate abbreviation, YACAODI1MAC strove to put forward the most thoughtful and objective analysis of 0.0 politics that a 1-man alt corp on CAOD could provide. It was YACAODI1MAC that first suggested the Mercenary Coalition could build a future for itself in the north, and it was YACAODI1MAC that first declared June a defeat for BoB. But the most shocking announcement was yet to come: with the war over Goon-controlled space still raging, YACAODI1MAC came to the conclusion that BoB was losing the war and would be destroyed. YACAODI1MAC issued a new series of threads entitled, "Why is BoB Losing?" For the first time, not only was BoB declared to be losing, the entire history and operation of BoB came under a critical analysis that revealed all other histories of Eve to be a deception and the inner rot in the character of BoB--so far masked by its titans and propaganda--would lead BoB inevitably to defeat. This heresy, alone among the illusions of BoB, the stifled optimism of its enemies, and the gloom of the general public, proved electric. The threads were read by tens of thousands of people and ballooned with replies from the most and least well-known posters of Eve. They were dispersed to all corners of the world, copied onto corporation message boards and translated into German, Spanish, Russian and a half-dozen other languages. The public's perception of Eve, so carefully constructed by BoB from the beginning, had been challenged. (Part 2 below.)

BoB's enemies wanted the claims to be true, but the disappointments of the early phase of the war, along with the dubious credentials of the 1-man alt corp left them skeptical. BoB and its pets, on the other hand, were furious. They did not want to add extra attention to the threads, but neither did they want the claims to go unopposed. The forum warriors of BoB and their army of apologists had always dominated the public discourse; what had they to fear from a mere 1-man alt corp? But as they read the accursed YACAODI1MAC posts and wrote their responses, they found themselves unable to rebut even a single argument or derail the train of logical thought that traced the path to their destruction. Instead, the representatives of "Omnipotence Itself" chortled, squealed, and turned purple with impotent rage. The more perceptive of BoB's pets were made uneasy. Still, the ideas expressed by the "Why is BoB Losing?" series were radical and outrageous in their day. In some corners they were debated and discussed with seriousness, but in others, such as the BoB forums themselves, the posts inspired hilarity. Even so, some had doubts. Many questions were raised. But in the end, it was just a bunch of CAOD posts submitted by a 1-man alt corp. There was just one thing that everyone could agree upon: time would tell. It all began on July 23rd, 2007, when the first part of the "Why is BoB Losing?" series came to the public eye. It has been one hundred days. Since then... * Band of Brothers gave up all attempts to capture the Detorid region. * Band of Brothers lost control of the Tenerifis region. * Band of Brothers lost control of the Omist region. * Band of Brothers lost control of part of the Fountain region. * Band of Brothers "New North" Allies abandoned attempts to capture the Tenal region. * Band of Brothers "New North" Allies lost control of the Branch region. * Band of Brothers "New North" Allies lost control of the Deklein region. * Band of Brothers "New North" Allies lost control of the Fade region. * Band of Brothers "New North" Allies lost control of the Pure Blind region. * Band of Brothers "New North" Allies surrendered control of the Cloud Ring region. * Band of Brothers lost control of most of the Feythabolis region. * Band of Brothers issued an evacuation order for the Feythabolis region. * Band of Brothers lost control of part of the Esoteria region. * Band of Brothers issued an evacuation order for the Esoteria region. * Band of Brothers issued an evacuation order for the Paragon Soul region. * Band of Brothers lost tower majorities in nearly a dozen station systems in Feythabolis, Esoteria and Paragon Soul in the last two days. * Band of Brothers gained control of part of the Catch region. This has been the first one hundred days. - 315
