I remember back in 04 when I first started playing, different factions of rats would drop different kinds of ship logs as loot. Most of them said something like "Guristas Ship Log 34534: We're dropping the cargo off at so and so system and moon this and that".
Did those locations actually exist? I never really got around to visiting one of those systems because I heard that there were large numbers of rats. I didn't want to risk my precious Condor 
When did they take the logs out?

i think they took em out in rev 1 or 2,cause i remember in red moon id get em like crazy

I still get them occasionally while running missions, mostly from Guiristas for some reason. Like the OP said, I've also never really followed up on though.

I get heaps of them still in missions, from all pirate factions.
Rumor on the locations is they are either camped or broken.

I still get logs, though they don't lead anywhere now.
And yeah, they did lead to massive NPC spawns. I found a good one where it lead me to a massive 25-50 cruiser spawn, all worth 123k+. I was too noob to kill anything at the time though.
