If you can't accept the risks, DON'T go out in low sec space (below 0.5).

Accept the fact that you can be trapped in that system due to a blockade, get your ship blown up, have your stuff stolen, and podded and lose your implants.

If you don't want the above to happen, then don't go there. Train some combat skills first, get a decently equipped ship and ONLY when you are ready, go out there. Bring a friend or two, it's safer that way.

If you CANNOT deal with the possible losses, there are TONS of 0.5 and above systems which have lots of good ore to mine. Maybe not the best ore, but at least you'll make some money.

I did in fact make a risk/benefit calculation.

Ninja mining ark in 0.0, 6 jumps away from the nearest station in a vexor: 20 million an hour. Possible loss, isk tied up: about 3 million.

Mining junk ore in 0.5 in a Megathron, station in mining system: about 1.5 million per hour. Isk tied up/possible loss: about 110 million, but loss very unlikely.

I chose the former, and did in fact lose a ship and a clone to gate campers. I still came out ahead.

However, there were still 2 or 3 days when I was wasting my time even logging in. Moo, for reasons best known to themselves, but in my opinion connected with getting enjoyment from ruining other people's game, sitting in system, and I suspect almost everyone else in dock.

Nobody winning, everybody bored stiff, probably several people thinking of quitting eve and joining a game in which you actually get to play, the way you want to, when you want to. Obviously, some of our players think that is too much to ask.

Incidentally, my corp has just got itself into a war; with THAT, I have no problem.

As for being willing to take risks, I am thinking of basing my EVE business on shipping goods needed in 0.0 into there from empire. The profits are huge (1000% plus), the risks huge as well.
