I'm considering putting up a small gallente tower in amaar space (close to where i operate). I'm thinking about a mobile lab, mining array, corp hangar, 1xsilo.
Any do's/dont's/tricks/traps I should be aware of?

Just be conscious of where you stick the little sucker.
If you've put it in hostile territory small poses tend not to stick around too long.
Depending on where it is in friendly territory you will likely be fine, though on the periphery you'll want to boost your defenses some.
I love the small pos, most folks poo poo it, but for it's cost it sure is a great little mobile base when you need one.

I assume you mean low sec since you need faction standings for high sec. Also, no moon mining in high sec (or 0.4 systems either).

if the POS is in highsec, no need for the silo or moon mining array, u cant moon mine above .3

a Small POS will cost you about 35-45 mil a month in fuel, depending on the market and whether you use an Empire or Pirate faction tower (If you're going it solo, I'd recommend a Shadow Serpentis instead of a Gallente - same basic stats but lower fuel use, which means it can go longer between fuelings, which means less footwork for you - with the savings in fuel it will eventually pay for itself too)

If you have one available, create an alt to be the station manager to do basic things like refuelling. if you go for right one they can also do 4-5 research jobs without extra skill training. if you are also a regular miner, pick a system without an npc station. the pos can function there as a giant secure storage can that holds it all until you are ready to pick it up with a freighter. Systems without stations are usually quieter, so les competition for the ores.
