I discovered this incoming game recently, and looking forward to play it. Looks like it will be at least as good as WoW, with meaningful PvP and not nearly as harsh as EVE. Pure fun, in other words, unless they screw it...
Anyone else planning to play it? It could be nice to create an EVE-WAR guild. PS. Don`t turn this into "EVE rulez, everything else sux" thread, please.

I'm waiting for it as I am a huge fan of the Warhammer background.
That being said from what I have seen so far my hopes are not cresting all that high. I will just keep deluding myself that it will be good. I will be trying it but dear lord unless they pull out all the stops I don't know if its going to be the "omg I just wet myself in happiness" game I was hoping for.

That never happens. There will always be something you don`t like.
However, there going to be lots of different "BGs" - instanced scenarios in WAR. And BGs were the best part of WoW, and there were only 3. So it must be good.

Not to put you down, but my mate who has been playing WoW since beta, and got a warhammer beta key, gave it away within the first 4 days.
His thoughts were that the game was almost a replica of WoW, which isnt surprising coming from EA.
So if you liked WoW you'll like warhammer I presume.

WoW is a pretty good game (it just is, no I don't need deathmails now because I said it), so if you really like the whole warhammer thing (I do) this will be quite a nice game. WoW in the warhammer world, sounds like a nice game I'll play for a few months and then go back tot EVE again .

How'd he get a key already? Most of my guild from Dark Age is set to get into Beta and they probably won't receive keys untill sometime this month or possibly next. And most of ya'all seem to forget the contract is between mythic and GW. GW already pulled the plug on Sony because they didn't like how the game was being made, if EA tries to pump out the product as crap GW can do the same thing. Personally though I can't wait to get back into my old guild. Out of four mmo's now that the only group that understood the purpose of grouping together. Oh yeah, and never trust somebody who tests something for 4 days. 4 days in eve doesn't even scratch the surface and certainly wouldn't give one enought time to see many aspects of other games.

Edited by: DannyRiser on 04/11/2007 07:47:35 yeah 4 days isnt really enough time.
you also have to consider that I've noticed most of my friends who play WoW don't end up giving other games a chance at all... its kinda weird.
on another note, I've heard good things about WAR from my friend at work who got into the beta. personally though, I'm pretty done with the norm for MMO's. they all get boring eventually, the only reason I came back to EVE was because its something you can do that takes a lot of time but not a lot of effort, so it keeps my attention, but at the same time i don't have to pay attention... i don't know its weird, hah.

for the record, world of warcraft is a really, really good game. if warhammer online is as acessible and as polished as wow that's no bad thing. at all.
don't let ****y eve snobbery put you off it. it's a grind, but that is very much the point of RPGs. anybody who prefers eve because it 'isn't a grind' probably doesn't understand that eve just switched the onus from gaining EXP and faction standings to gaining isk and.. uuh.. faction standings.
wow has a similar level of complete morons playing it as eve does.

I got all excited very early on with all this talk of Realm vs Realm and PVP at all levels and realm wide quests but now I'm just expecting WoW with different graphics and since my attention span lapsed inside of a couple of months with WoW I'll probably not bother.

ahahahahahahaha BG were the WORST part of WoW. WoW is so pants because its just that... Battlegrounds. nothing else. WoW was such a let down on the pvp front.
If you want real PvP i heartily suggest DAoC, it was my first mmorpg. grindfest but man the pvp has beaten down any other fantasy mmorpg i have played. (eve doesnt count) It did have battlegrounds for the lower levels and thidranki was 1 of the most fun areas. but the real pvp in the RealmVsRealm area was huge with castles and siege warfare and man so much fun.
And i was truly looking forward to warhammer online when it was announced untill i saw a video of some crappy little arena where people where trying to keep hold of a ball for as long as possible... then i heard there was BG etc etc and it killed it for me. nobody ever wants to do anything original now. ------------- I have Quit Eve's. No you cant have my stuff i tagged it and gave it to orphans then told concord it was stolen but tagged. zOMG! |

The ONLY thing I wish more than anything else and it boggles me why they don't have these 2 classes is that they would put in the Slayer and Wardancer (or woodelves period).
Why oh why are they not including the slayer, that's like everyones favorite class.

Yep Wood elves would be awsome, I expect theyl add them in on a latter expansion pack as theres no way they can render all the myriad of races present in the warhammer world to start with.
I just hope they let me play as a High Elf ranger and allow me to mount Great Dragons of Caledor into battle and actualy use them offensively unlike WoW where mounts are nothing more than travel aids. There are still 2 new High elf classes to be confirmed so I can only hope one of them is a ranger or Dragon Lord.
As far as game play goes it definitly dosnt look like anything ground breaking and I asume their relying heavily on the fandom that already surrounds the warhammer world and on drawing alot of players away from WoW. I got bored of WoW after 3 months so I'm hoping that this one keeps me interested for longer.
BTW not being as harsh as EVE is a BAD thing... _______________________________________________

I'll be there. Playing a Chaos Chosen. They'll supposedly be contenders with Black Orcs for largest character class. While that does tend to make you a target, I'd like to be the guy that the opposition sees coming from a mile away and scatters like*****roaches to get clear of.
As to all the WoW haters: so long as they do what WoW got right (deeply customizable UI, moderately paced gameplay, engaging content at most every level) while avoiding what WoW did wrong (grinds, grinds, grinds), it'll be fine. Remember, this is a mass RvR game being done by Mythic, so I'm pretty optimistic. And BGs do not automatically = instant fail. They're great for finding a quick spot of PvP, and since they count toward territorial control, they're actually meaningful instead of WoW's LOLTOKENFARMING.

Slayer, slayer, no, not finding any in the RPG. Could be they're not going full on tin army approach but tailor some of the game around the most excellent pen and paper RPG too.

Didn't they push back the release in a week or two ago to make the game more polished when it comes out?
I think this was a very good thing. The game must be really ready to compete with such a massive popular games like warcraft. I really hope that they success in this.
I am sure I am going to atleast try this game. I will be playing in the chaos side. The meaniest and badest looking monster I can find =D

Gonna try it ofc, cant remember if its gonna my ninth or tenth mmo, and since it mythic i do have good hopes for proper pvp, as i havent seen any pvp that rivals the DaoC one, that was freaking awesome...On pve, i just expect the usual quest/grind to lvl, what game doesnt have that...Well only UO comes to mind coz they dont have lvls, and to the WoW haters, well..i agree the pvp sucks balls, but there's tons of endgame content to satisfy a casual player like me.

You never heard of a slayer? Troll Slayer, Dragon slayer, Deamon slayer? Gotrek? That dwarf only has a whole series of books following him on his adventures. They're pretty much the most brutalizing unit on tabletop (once they actually catch ya). And it wouldn't be anything tin army about it, slayers don't wear armor

No idea how the game will be, but if you want to try it, play on american (mythic) servers. GOA, the company that will run the european servers, is useless beyond words.
I'm scared the game will resemble wow a bit too much, but they do have 6 years of experience from making one of the best pvp-oriented mmo's (daoc). I hope they bring the best of daoc and best of wow together for WAR, in the really cool warhammer theme ofcourse.

That's Trollslayers and Giantslayers according to my copy of the arcane lore, loser punk dwarfs, not some prancing elves anywhere near it.
I'd seriously like to see more classes being released ever so often, I know it's hard to balance that many classes against eachother but at least try and don't give up, as AoC did.
