It allways amazes me when i see the delusional smokescreen that the eve skills system creates among people.
You know there cyther i take nothing away from you, you seem pretty clued up, your bang on about a lot of eve's stronger points that set it apart from the rest taking it to the next level. Even though i don't enjoy or care for all of it, certainly the market interaction and ecconomic destruction one can cause is ten fold. Player interactions/affiliations/conflicts... an any game thing, it is what you make of it.. whatever the realm youre wandering around in....doing that in eve doesn't appeal to me now personaly because of the nature of the crowd id be associating with.. thats not to say thats how it allways was though... the people that play and join the game now are a different breed to the original mob that infested the place back in 03 and trailed away through 04.
The skills thing though, gee's man.. no level cap, the neverquest.....
Addmittedly im shooting from the top of my head without giving it much thought but common, 4 years here... seeing the words of ccp at the start of that journey and what the skills system was suposed to be all about.... and what it's become now... don't tell me it's not anything other than a sinister generic leveling system designed to play on users insecurities just like the rest.... far worse because of the aforementioned no cap and the ability to not to be here while it does it's stuff.
ill tell you what got the ball rolling on that and made me sit and look back over it.... (wrangler) some guy came in and says how about a 'life time' one off eve charge.... he replies (wrangler) but eve doesn't have a level cap
Right there and then it started clicking...
Quick question in relation to that... how many of the people that don't play for months on end (self included) cancel there debit charge during that time.
You'd be lucky to find many imho... and yeah i think youre right.... i think we could see eve's model taken to another mmo... it works perfectly on a small scale operation like ccp have here where the focus is maximizing what you have.... not great for a large scale open world mmo in the vain of an everyquest or warcraft.. largely in part because of all the things that people don't like about the skills system here (timeframes and catch up's) not to mention ofcourse unlike in eve where bashing eve's npc's is focused on money making... xp focus being associated mainly with the former.
As for the rest.. sorry mate... but again, eve is full of the generic stuff that makes a mmo tick... while you can avoid some or most it... certainly you can focus on a preferd area... or enjoy one of eve's finer qualities... the market interactions for a shallow start..... the rest is all there for the masses.... people love doing it... ccp delivers the virtual chore existance
I could say a lot more, but honestly it's not a dig at you or anyone else... just had to give my 2 pennies worth of something to end the weekend with.
