We have found something, but it is still being investigated. Should have a solution by mid March not mid Feb as stated above.
The interim solution Konflikt is referring to was to revert to the previous situation which meant users downloading too many avatar images but that isn't being implemented unless a proper solution is deemed infeasible. CCP Gangleri | Senior Tester

The interim solution Konflikt is referring to was to revert to the previous situation which meant users downloading too many avatar images but that isn't being implemented unless a proper solution is deemed infeasible. The picture problem has not been fixed and the mid February 1.2 Crucible patch is a Nightmare that makes the game unplayable. For the record all the symptoms i have experienced have been long logged in Mac threads i discovered by going back and reading them, seems like you actually never solve Mac issues. Players come up with work arounds or quit. I never even complained about the loss of pictures because I knew it would not rise to the level of someone actually fixing it because it didn't impact revenues for CCP in a major way. When the patch made the game unplayable for me I discovered these Mac forum threads and if you ignore the dates they all seem current same problems again and again. Extremely disheartening that every patch and update Mac users have to experience disasters. I would never have started this game if you had been honest and said the Mac playability was questionable and poorly supported, CCP claimed Mac compatibility and i was foolish enough to believe you guys.
Truly a poor showing CCP. |

Bit late to the party here. Reported as a bug but didn't bother posting this earlier because it seemed like there were bigger problems other people had post-Crucible. Sounds like a possible fix is in the works, but a little more data won't hurt.
Problem since: Jan 24th OSX: 10.6.8 2006 Mac Pro, dual-quad procs 6GB memory ATI 5770
Cache clearing: Helps briefly. What seems to happen is that a certain # of small portraits in chat load, then no more. Right after a cache clear I can get big portraits in Get Info, but that breaks down quickly. Same problem after, portraits don't load in small or big or bigger, and the full-body character viewer loads with screwy textures.
As well as repeatedly clearing the cache, I have run the patch/repair hash checker, which did nothing but remove a few empty folders inside the app directory, and made no difference to the portrait problem. I also combed through the Console records looking for potential issues, and found nothing I could associate with Eve.
I'm pretty comfortable doing stuff in Console and Terminal, so if there's any additional data I can get for you please mail me and ask. As an owner of an older machine I may encounter issues that testers with new and shiny models won't. |

From the patch notes:
"A display issue with character portraits on the Mac client has been fixed."
CCP Gangleri: fixed via reversion to the old method, or was a proper solution deemed feasible?
Either way, thanks. I am running for the CSM. Take a look at my ideas. http://vincentoneve.wordpress.com/ |

Speaking of tomorrows patch, did anyone ever get the new launcher to work on a Mac at all? My skill queue only has 19 days left. |

Yes, I got the launcher to work on Sisi and participated in the mass test of March 8 (on an alt).
The trick was the client would go for the "eve online" folder in application support irrelevant of what you edited into the info.plist file. The fix I used was to just rename my "eve onlinesisi" folder to "eve online". (Yes I saved the old one).
What this means is the launcher should work just fine tomorrow. But if you use the clone maker and try to get each clone to use a different folder in Application Support there may be issues. I am running for the CSM. Take a look at my ideas. http://vincentoneve.wordpress.com/ |

Same here. Clearing cache works for a short while, and then pics stop loading (however, pics that were loaded before the problem came back do continue to render fine, presumably from cache). I've eliminated ~/Library/Appliation Support/EVE Online/ multiple times, have applied all the patches, and even redownloaded; still no-go. |

Yea, i filed a new bug report on this 20 days ago or so ago, and it got changed from the "Mac" category to "Transgaming" by someone at CCP and has sat "Not Filtered" now ever since. I assume that means "hey we said we fixed it, so it's someone else's problem now". Or it's just more of the complete lack of customer service when it comes to game bugs as usual from CCP. |

I'd love to see a native Mac port of EVE and not just encapsulating the Windows version...

OS X Lion, up-to-the-minute version with all patches applied, on a 2008 iMac: Wiping out the ~/Library folders* gave me lots of sweet, sweet portraits for the first hour or so. No portraits have loaded since then. I haven't seen an enlarged portrait (Pilot -> Show Info -> click on portrait) load since Incarna, even when I show info on a player for whom I have a portrait. (I can see them for my own character, at least!)
*which I had to do to get the game to run at all after the last patch... |
