Ok, so with all the furor surrounding Drone Bandwidth, Drone Bay sizes, and the impending scripts looming large CCP have sneakily added an extra low slot to the Eos to give it a total of 6 ala it's Brother 'n' arms the Astarte.
So now the slot layout is something like this:
High 7 Slots (only 5 turrets now) Med 5 same as before Low 6 slots (+1 additional)
So the question now is does this enhance/improve it's tanking ability or allow for greater flexibility with other modules? Overdrive Injector, Inertia Stabilisers, or another EANM II???
Any thoughts guys?

When I looked at the Eos on Sisi 3 days ago, it had 4 mids 6 lows. Which makes sense, since it helps it tank better, and the Eos's role is to stay alive to give gang bonuses. dishing out damage, with rails or drones, is only a little something so the pilot doesn't become bored.
Anyone who think you should be able to solo things with a fleet command ship need to sell their character and start over. ------------------------------------------

Haven't checked, but last I heard they didn't actually add anything, just moved a mid to a low -- which improves the tank, but removes the last shred of extra EW the Eos could bring to a gang. So meh, it's still crap (largely because the infowar gang links are so poor and special-case compared to the others). There's no reason to fly an Eos, the other 3 perform a lot better in all respects.
If they've now given it 5 meds and 6 lows (i.e. actually added a slot), then I'd be a lot happier.

Well it definitely has 5 med slots as per usual, but I do agree that it should be geared more towards fleet battles, but that shouldn't mean it cannot be used in smal roving gangs of two or more.

Ok, good to know.
If the final rev3 Eos gets a 5med/6low slot layout, I guess I'll stop complaining. That will bring the tank up to more or less the level of the others, and give it at least some little versatility to compensate for the specialized nature of the infowar links.

Does it fill it's role well?
No.
Did it fill it's role well before the changes?
No.
Should it be given different bonuses, to allow it to fill it's role?
Why yes, yes it should.
Was there an issue with this ship before the nerf?
Yes, but it's not been addressed.
I can understand people whining about it's damage, although as we know, it was always a close up and personal damage, which put you in the thick of it. I for one, don't go along with the whole 1000 DPS argument, you wouldn't last very long, flying with a fitting, giving you that.
But the changes do not address the intended role of this ship, and it's lacking in that role. Please re-look at this ship and give it some new and usefull bonuses, to allow it the role as intended.

That's quite true. I'd personally prefer a rethink of the ship bonuses... the nerfed drone bay size makes no sense with the new drone bandwidth, and the drone bay size bonus could well be changed into a logistics-related bonus.
In addition, I'd much rather see the ship get a hybrid optimal bonus than a damage bonus; if it's meant to be EW support as the "main role", ranged weapons (rail) are the way to go. Since that change would reduce the DPS quite a bit, they could also increase the drone bandwidth a bit while still keeping the total DPS low. I think the ship would work a lot better in the role with rails + some more logistics drone capability than blasters + the current amount.
All that said... the 5/6 slot layout makes the ship a lot less of a green paperweight than the 4/6 one, so it's something at least.
Ideally we'd also get some rethink on the ship bonuses, yes.

I'd say this was a most welcome change and after the nerf it should stay as it is. Now if only the information link to "recon operations" would change from optimal range to EW modules to targeting range and/or speed, then after the upcoming changes to sensorboosters, it would be worth training to use the silly information links

Edited by: achoura on 06/11/2007 11:42:27 Oh idk, gimped damages sucks imo (im biased) but it doe's field a decent tank now which is something.
Ships saving grace are the actuall gang links, something 9/10th of the complainers have conveniently "forgotten" about, it's the only one that gets a boost to the ecm link, and when ppl finally start utilizing this then they may finally understand what this ship does.
Oh and ecm has been given a boost too, put a skilled eos pilot in fc and your fleet wont need a tank if you carry enough ecm boats.
/me predicts ccp ecm gimp this time next year.

I think you're confusing your bonuses somewhere because the Eos doesn't get a hybrid damage bonus as that bonus is taken from the Brutix. If you really want to have an optimal range bonus then you'd need to get that twice to really make it worth having just like the Vulture.
The 'main' role for the Eos is a 'Fleet Command Ship' and that can mean anything to anyone, but what I see it to mean is that it should sit back and give some serious boosts to whatever warfare links (Information) that it has a spcialised bonus for. Whether Information Warfare Links are any good is a seperate discussion, but for sure it should be just as dangerous from far off as the Astarte is from close up.
This should be the same for all fleet command ships when using their assigned warfare links.
Just my opinion.

Ummm, what?
Last I checked, the Eos got "5% bonus to Medium Hybrid Turret damage". Or has this, too, changed?
As I said, I think the Eos would be better suited for the role with that bonus changed to an optimal range bonus, and some more drone bandwidth added (to make up for that lost 25% gun damage).

Good question. Before, I'd have said damp or tracking disruptor, but since both of those are being hit hard by the nerfbat... dunno.
In any case, an "extra" med is good. I'll think of something. :)

The two bonuses the Eos receives as a Fleet Command ship are to Drone Bay size and to Information Warfare links. The other two bonuses are taken from Battlecruiser skill (+5% dmg and +7.5% repair amount).
If you're suggesting that instead of the +5% dmg this be changed to optimal range then you're not changing the Eos, but the Brutix which isn't the thing to do. If you leave those alone and change one of the command bonuses then it still won't make any sense as it will still leave the ship 'half naked'.
I think one poster has already stated that the ship needs a rethink to it's bonuses in general and to some extent I agree and to be honest having a drone bay bonus to unbonusesd drones is pointless. The Eos can start with a big enough bay in my opinion and then that could throw the door open for CCP to give it a more useful bonus along with the warfare bonus.

5 mids 6 lows is a start. At least the tank gets a boost or you can run more EW.
But I'd really want to see a decent Command Ship bonus. the drone bay bonus is just a joke and an insult. Give it a boost to EW effectiveness or range. Or maybe a logistics bonus.

Yeah. With the drone bandwidth thing in place now, giving the Eos a nerfed drone bay is pointless, and the drone bay size bonus is also in the "meh" category. It should get a large, static drone bay, and something useful as that bonus.
Nothing that increases DPS, mind you, we don't want this thing to become a solomobile (again). Something that helps it perform the role of gang/fleet support. Could be anything, really.

an extra lo is good news
I occasionally use Command Processors in the Mids
but at the end of the Day I wouldn't use an Eos as a Fleet Command ship, it was the first I was able to use but now the Claymore is my first choice and Vulture second, starting to train Amarr cruiser for the Damnation, I might revise the order when I have tried that.

Giving one lowslot for free is like giving free tanking bonus. Slightly less powerfull, but way much flexible. Strange idea tbh, and not very good precedent.

As noted above, the rumor turned out to be false, Eos on sisi still has 4/6 slot layout, not 5/6.
As for "super powerful tank"... sorry, no. It was the worst of the fleet commands at tanking (largely because of grid issues, it cannot easily fit plates). Now, with 6 lows, it can wield a halfway decent tank, though fitting problems remain. And it has lost the med, so as a whole it hasn't gained much.
With 5/6 med/low it would have been fine.

Sell your Eos, buy a Damnation. (Much) better tank, (much) better gank link bonus, (much) easier to fit, capless weapons.
This just in:
I'm on the test server (1 minute to go before shut down) and guess what?
High 7 slots (5 turret) Med 5 slots (and I have 5 active modules fitted) low 6 slots.

You're missing the point. The Eos at the moment is by far the worst of the fleet commands, so the only precedent here would have been "boost underpowered ship to be equal to others in same class". And that's something CCP has done, continually (sometimes with good, sometimes with not-that-good success rates :).

Where ever you get your information from sometimes it's good to verify it yorself before you make unverified claims. I didn't spread any rumour, I was on the test server and i undocked in my Eos with 7,5,6 slot layout.
