Edited by: Krymusstopit on 08/11/2007 07:15:12 insidious new folder found. the folder goes in My documents and is named EVE, with subfolders capture and logs.
do a simple search for any files and folders named Eve, after you uninstall the game.
I uninstalled the game because i got caught in a blanket ban ****storm and had my account locked, and they wont reopen it. so im glad i didnt put up with their bull**** and buy the game. they specifically told me they did a blanket ban, and since my ISP services 2 million people in about 50,000 square mile area, and since it has a monopoly here by owning the comm lines, they said I "looked" enough like someone else to be them. basically, you cant prove them wrong, but Im glad I learned sooner than later about their incompetency.
Now, to the actual file itself.
Once you have located this file try to delete the top directory. you cant. go to properties and uncheck read only (as this is whats causing it). given that you are admin of your own computer, this should solve it. well, now you try to delete it once again, and strangely, its read only again. repeat this 5 times to make sure it isnt your error.
Congratulations, you've found an undeletable junk folder placed in your computer. Isn't that how malicious viruses start, and indeed the very definition of one? something that protects itself from even the owner of the computer trashing it?
Stay away from CCP, they look as bad as Blizzard corporate now.

hell, you dont even have to delete all of eve to do it, just try ot delete that folder. If you cant use trashcan to reactivate it should you succeed, I'll pray to the computer gods for you.

I could be wrong, but if I remember correctly, XP using an NTFS file system doesn't use the Read Only attribute on folders. It's ignored, and only applies to files.

That folder's where all the EVE chat logs, player portraits and screenshots go. If the client needs to generate a new log, portrait, screenshot or any other record of play, and that folder is missing, then it creates it again so it can do its job.
So it sounds to me like you've still got the EVE client installed somewhere and are trying to run it. Might want to use the uninstaller next time.
Before you do that, could I have your stuff? - The game is not the problem. The problem is that you are not adapting to the game.

and it will appear in gray on the folder attribute as read only checked. removing this check mark will bring up an option to remove read only on ALL files and subfolders, or just the folder itself. using this method to remove read only should have a domino effect, and after the process finished the folder looks free of read only mode, gray (indicating any subfiles/folders) or normal.
it MAY not be CCP's fault at all, except for some faulty exploitable code that allowed someone else to do this. It may be related only to someone that uses a popular game to distribute a virus. thats not totally out of the question. The question is who really is doing this, and why didn't we know yet?

It does that with all folders under Windows XP. Just FYI.
You probably have a program using a file under that folder somewhere. __________

Maybe you should try to boot into safe mode to release any unneeded system resources then try to delete the files/folder(s).
Again as an earlier poster, please post a screenie to support such substantiations, in either case what you describe is not such an unfrequent occurance in the world computers, you just need to deal with it in the correct fashion.

If you knew anything about Windows or programming then you would not post that here, so STFU!
Several EVE folders are place throught out the WIndows OS, due to many VALID reasons.
My Docs - Folder for the logged in user only, chatlogs, portraits etc...(its called security, so only the loged in user/or Admin can access chatlogs) Application Data - Program settings, etc..(Microsoft don't like you writing files in "Programs Folder" after install)

lol wut? You must have some super-secret hacked version of eve. That folder for me (yes the one in My Documents) has not a single read-only file, can be deleted on a whim (not that I would, I like keeping a backlog of chat/game logs handy just in case), and it doesn't contain a single hidden file. ---

no, as I stated, I reboot after uninstall, and the file remains locked despite all attempts to remove it, even such programs as MoveOnBoot cannot remove it.
new info. the folder that cannot be removed is gamelogs. even after reboot, even after safe mode, and no antivirus program, spyware, or moveonboot can remove it

As they guy saying that you qouted and said no to. So I say it again. The files are not supposed to be locked and aint for the rest of us that posted here. You must have a program that is locking the file/folder.

Windows XP seems to tie itself into a strange knot sometimes. My X31 laptop installation forexample is running rampant with no-reason file locking that stem from explorer.exe (your interface - kill it and see what happens). ...and no, killing the process won't solve the locks, for whatever reason. The newly spawning explorer.exe that replaces the killed one just slaps new locks on those random files and folders.
There seems to be no reason for this behaviour, and my other XP's are just fine. My mother's XP is also suffering from this phenomen, as well as two of my friends that I know of.
There's a handy free too that works 99.9% of the cases just fine. ...just in case few of you know what I'm describing here as an XP problem.

Are you using Vista? If so, it's a Vista issue, not a Eve issue. I've had this happen with a few other things on Vista. Look in Google and you can find a site that tells you the long process to fix it.
Next time, do some research before starting anti-CCP conspiracy theories.
