i just saw the teaser video and the ships look way too new and polished
their surfaces should remind more minmatar ships, afterall they get hit by small asteroids and stuff like that all the time
or ships could in time look more "worn out" that would be awesome that wearing out thing could been done with ingame counter which counts flighthours it wouldnt affect ships stats or durability though

Yes worn & torn look ftw. I'd really miss it.

best would be having 2 textures for each ship, one when ship is new or recently repaired in station, other when its worn and burt. Now one can be layed over the other with varying transparency for intermediate stares.

Ships should look polished when not damaged, thats what shield is for. Also after fully repairing, as repairers are supposed to work with nanobots or something. But if ship's armor and/or hull is damaged, then yes, it shouldn't be shining like new.

To start with, miss ****in what the graphics now dont look worn and torn, they look a little outdated but only a little in some parts.
And for the people who dont like the how clean the new graphics are well the other 99.9% of ppl who play eve do like it.
U should be greatfull for the new graphic expansion which we are getting for FREE, not givin it ****. ------------- Ow look the Sun it burns ! |

Caldari ships should be kept clean and be properly maintained at all times, in accordance with naval standards. Minmatar ships might have some aesthetic corrosion, and Gallente ships will no doubt be splashed with beer and bodily fluids, but The State approves of the new ship designs.

I second Reggie. My ships have shields for a reason. I know you silly people let things through your shields all the time- and for you a dinged-up ship might be good. For me, if something gets through my shields I'll be more worried about getting revenge than on the 'worn out' looks.
Basically- Minmatar ships should look dinged up. Gallente ships should look a bit banged up. Caldari and amarr take FAR too much pride in the look of their ships to let them get dinged. ------ Pain is weakness leaving the body.

Why should my thorax/'insert a shiny ship name here' get a worn aout looking armor after several fights? I use nanobots to repair my armor, they restore it perfectly to the initial state.
But, when taking damage, it should not be as clean. -- Pocket drone carriers (tm) enthousiast !

Well, actually the current graphics include an intentional worn&torn look. EVE was originally designed to not look clean and polished. Perhaps many people just don't notice it. As far as I could tell the OP's proposal was to keep that. He didn't ask for a change but rather for retention of what we know and what we're used to.
Fluffy amateurish RP references should be kept at home or in TS/Vent/EVEVoice, where they belong. Current skins aren't clean and polished, so it would take an actual change to make Caldari and Amarr as dutiful as has been tried to make up..

But, when taking damage, it should not be as clean.
Nanobots are not all powerfull and all knowing. They are not magic dust transforming into whatever the magician wishes. They are programmed to reconstruct armor structures important for ship survival. But programming nanobots is a hard task - they are tiny, they have very basic capabilities and memory. They have to build much more complex structures then they can "remember" in single unit. Like ants building bi things where each ant is pretty stupid. Those are complex algorithms that use interactions and alterations of nanobots, many groups with different programs and in-flight program alteration.
To the point. Programming nanobots to renew painting or decorative plates, is a waste of time. Nanobot-reconstructed armor may indeed look clean but not nercesarily identically as new station-polished parts. Those differences are the said "scars and burns" :)

I think rust on a ships hull makes no sense.
Even the most heavy armor tanking ships in EVE, have some shields, that would protect them from any micro-meteors during space travel. Also armor-tankers have nanite based-repair systems, and as the top layers of their armor is often renewed, the would look even more shiny than any shield tanking ships armor.
Also ships and their hulls are often in space and from minerals, even Minmatar ships are not build from what could be stolen at next junkyard. Also as these ships are travelling through space they are rarely affected from an Oxygon-atmosphere outside of their hull, that could cause rust on the ships surface.
