Where is our targeting hotkey? Why does it feel like I am a accountant scrolling through options as I attempt to target 5 or 6 marks? What are the designers thinking? I am trying to fight and instead I am scrolling! I want to be able to click targets on my auto scanner and push ONE button to lock them.
What do you guys think? What hotkeys would you like? Please vote for or against the targeting hotkey notion while your at it. I vote Aye! give me a targeting hotkey!

I don't know, but why don't they use that square reticule thing that comes up when you hold control down? Why not let you press a key with that thing up to do lots of stuff, like one key to lock target, one to look at, one to warp to, and so on, a simple beep for when you use the reticule to select the icon (ship, belt, station, gate, can, everything has icons!) and then you press a button and it does whatever.
I don't know how many times I look at when i am trying to lock, or how the stupid expanding menus close while I am trying to warp away.

People use keyboards to play this game?
Weird.

Reload Slot 1 Reload Slot 2 Reload Slot 3 Reload Slot 4 Reload Slot 5 Reload Slot 6 Reload Slot 7 Reload Slot 8
Warp to active bookmark <-- Usefull for combat so members can jump to a fallback position if the gang leader screws up or loses connection
Launch all Combat Drones Scoop all Combat Drones Launch all Mining Drones Scoop all Mining Drones All Drones attack active target All Drones Mine Reptetatively All Drones Return and orbit All Drones GUARD Target <-- This one would have to have extra code added but hey... what about using your drones to guard mining ships or indys
As you can gather I have been wanting these for a while but even though I put them in the patch forum and ideas forum they get ignored.

Srolling when targetting is not realy required. You can always activate your weapon and click on the target. That will start targetting as well.

What if you already have all your moduals activated? Nothing to click unless you click and wait for the modual to cycle and become inactive. That is time that might cost you.
What about when you want to warp ASAP, your armor or hull is getting chewed up and you go to click warp to, and the fuggin dropdown/selection box dissapears because you clicked just a fraction of a hair to fast or far from the target area?
Hotkeys are good. We have stop ship. We have slot activations. We have a cool zoomy square thing when you hold down control. Why can't we get more keys when pressed with control to get warp to and lock and other things? --------------------------------------------------

Yes, we needs lots more hotkey options.
Just add the functions to the existing window and let us chose what setup suits us best.
(and for god sake fix it so we don't have to set it up every time we log on!) |

Gets my vote, even the configurable buttons that they do have are all hardwired to alt or ctrl what's that all about?!?! It's like they think we have fingers like E.T. or something.
Please give us user mapable hotkeys, now please ta! :)

A reload hokey would be sweet, or maybe a reloading module...mmmm....no forgetting to reload missiles whilst activating shield booster, hull repairer, trying to lock onto incomming missiles (only to find you need to reload).
A hotkey to zoom in using the maginifying biscuit would be cool too, yups.

I am all for more shotkeys. It takes much 2 much time to use the scrolling menu especially when you accidentally move just a bit to far away and have to do it again. In a situation where very second counts this is not good.
Please listen to this one ccp, it would really help pvp. ------------------------------ Audiofreaks ------------------------------ |

Edited by: Sheriff Jones on 02/03/2004 13:01:05 So... [right click] ->[lock target] is too slow these days?
People do know how to rotate the camera? Use the small icons in the sides of the hud?
No?
Damn..i must be leet.
I vot noyes. Won't bugger if it's not there, won't really jump in joy if it is. You lazy bastards.
EDITORIAL: Oh and... doubleclick on a station-jumpgate-mark on the hud warps you...

Not so much to do with lazy, but many times there are graphic lagg issues that pervent you from doing what you intended. At least keyboard shortcuts is a step in the right direction.... |

Edited by: Andrue on 02/03/2004 14:02:27 Damn right.
Some people like using a mouse 24/7 - good for them (but don't blame me if at my age you start to suffer). Other people prefer keyboards and see a mouse as an option.
Ergonomically speaking sitting with your hand permanently on your mouse (oohhh err) is bad for you. It might not make you go blind but it can cause RSI problems all the way up to your neck.
I came to Eve from a.n.other space mmorpg. That is very similar in a lot of ways but with that game you get lots of hot keys. Some of the most popular were:
'E' - target nearest enemy (actually targets nearest object that isn't friendly so targetted neutrals as well). 'H' - target nearest attacking object. 'W' - target nearest space furniture (gates, stations, nav points roids etc). 'D' - target next object of current type.
'F' - Fire all weapons at current target or stop firing them. NB:Combat in the other game was very similar to Eve - we're not talking arcade action here. '1' to '4' - Fire weapon 1 to 4 at current target or stop firing it.
'Q' - Warp to currently selected target or straight ahead if no current target.
There were other hot keys but the above are the most common and if present in Eve would make life easier for a lot of people.
Imagine mining in a risky system. A pirate pops up. Right now you have to grab the mouse and click several times to deal with it. In the other game you just press 'E' then 'F'.
Or how about mining and the roid is empty. Right now its grab the mouse and wave it around or click about. How about:
'W' then keep pressing 'D' until you find a roid you want.
This does make macroing a little easier but not that much easier. In any case if you don't have a hot key for mining or gating (the other game didn't) then you still need a macro program that can handle mouse movements.
And how about being able to assign a hot key to bookmarks? Imagine being able to just hit a single key to instawarp back to a station or mining operation?
C'mon CCP - give us hot keys. -- (Battle hardened miner)

In another game, i used to play hours by pressing [nearest enemy] [approach] [attack].
Over...and over...and over.
In this game i atleast feel like i'm doing something to gain the Isk, kills, whatnot.
There's a reason why games arn't being macroed to hell and every single thing doesn't have a hotkey: So you don't get bored to death.
Trust me, we tested this on a game once and people just got bored when it was about clicking three buttons. You say you want hotkeys, but there's a reason why theirnot there...if they implemented them, you would know.

Don't know if it helps but... f1 to f8(?) activates high, alt + f1-f8 for medium and shift(or ctrl) f1-f8 for low.
I use it all the time, just have to remember which module is in which slot, but that's just good piloting

Yeah, i know that, but i also fly a BS, and change my configurations often...so its somewhat irritating to start jamming a npc while i simply wanted to activate my shield boosters I know i am lazy
