What the poster above said.
It's a known issue that huge blob fights will lag the node, it's been that way for a long time and it's something they're working on improving - which is no small feat.
The value of your computer has absolutely nothing to do with it. ---

I hate to do this, but its so fitting: OP = waaaah waaaaah waaaaah
try 100 in local and lagging, with a silicon crap for a PC (1Ghz, geforce 5200, 512ram).
oh wait, its 300 in local, havent you even considered its the node that's starting to die? -

You do know that even if CCP's servers could keep track of lag for all players logged on (which is nearly impossible), lag is actually NOT grounds for reimbursement of lost ships?

the lag was quite bad during the first encounter in j7, the second encounter was slightly better. But yes still, the lag really does nail down the fun level of the game. Of all the stuff to be working on, fix the lag!

I'm pretty positive that the group of people that are responsible for the 'lag' and the remedy thereof are not just sitting back downing brewskies. I'd be willing to bet that they are doing the best they can given the tools and resources available to them.
tl;dr - Quit *****ing.

We know that caldari space is often laggy due to number of players there. I dont know how they have the servers set up. I assume they have a different box for each region or some such static arrangement. You dont actualy need this though. You could allocate a box to handle Jita alone within a static arrangement with the rest of the forge on a different machine. When you jump its simply deleting your ship in the one area and creating it again from the database in the new one.
The problem is simply one of dynamic load balanacing. This is a problem you find all the time in computer systems. For example network routers route packets according to the traffic. You would have to move away from a static system and allocate resources according to the player population. So if 200 players jump in that system gets dedicated hardware.
Lets face it. The guys at CCP are not the brightest developers in the world. The awful UI should tell you that much. These problems have been solved in other areas and can apply equaly to EVE. They should be concentrating on their core business of game design and leaving the issues of software development and systems implemention to people that are good at it.

They are working with IBM and Microsoft to create an actual Super Computer with real-time load balancing. Give them time to do this, they have it slated for some time in 2008, and when it's finished they'll have one of the largest super-computers in the UK. ____________________

They are actually doing that sort of, THE problem is that they can't assign more than one node per system. So Jita for example is the only system running on that node but it still isn't enough.
But Nav's problem is that he is the epic failure and not CCP.

Maybe they need to re-design the game, so that it encourages players to split up to take control of system and stations instead of piling everyone in to one grid or node and promoting blob warfare. If the code or technology can't handle the lag, then the design need to adjust to discourage blobbing instead of promoting it.

Certainly, lets just redesign the entire game.

The game objectives are hitting the weak point in the architecture. However, Hilmar seemed pretty confident that the CCP, IBM and MS supercomputer co-op can solve the system load balancing problems. It looks like they are working hard towards that at the moment, but things probably won't change much until then.
