Before EFT--most of you new guys might be shocked that there was something before EFT--there was Quickfit.
Quickfit was cool for alot of things, had some nice features that EFT still lacks, but seems to be dead.
One area where it lacked was displaying information. In order to get your raw DPS, you had to make sure that your turrets were loaded with the right ammo (the menu's were clunky), you had to select anther tab for drones (very clunky, again), then you had to move to another tab where you had to change the resistance of the sample ship to all 0's (even clunkier) and then remember to 'add drone damage' to your turrets.
So, after navigating four tabs, not forgetting any information or random buttons, and then inputting hte new data to get your 'raw' unresisted damage,(Im repeating for effect, mind you) you would then get a readout that told you your damage.
[Editors note: I didnt even go into how clunky, fabulous word btw, actually fitting modules in the program was, further adding to the time and frustration of that apparently now defunct program]
Anywho, most of the slack-jaws that played this game prior to EFT didn't have the attention span to perform all this. They just putzed around and whined every now and then when they're civilian fitted raven went poof in a .2 system.
But, here comes Eve Fitting Tool. All you need to do is remember what the modules are called, select the right ship, select 'All Level 5 Skills', and POW your raw DPS AND alpha is displayed at the right. Not to mention speed, resistances, and tanking ability.
Slow minded people the world over now had hard data to lend some credibility to their whines. Short-bused, Extra-chromosomed' EVE pilots rejoiced!
SO, here comes the current state of affairs. Everyone and their momma, who have no intention or attention to train cool ships, have an ability to play with fits to the point where they have a theoretically (it hurts using scientific verbiage to describe this scum) sounding arguments as to why X needs to be nerfed.
X in this equation is the Myrmidon, Vagabond (this one's back? thought this argument ended with T2 ammo getting nerfed) Nano Gangs, or whatever ship low sec pirates (cause empire geeks seem to be the WINNAH!--ding ding ding--in the whine thread creation contest, claim prize at the end of my 425mm; as opposed to real pilots in 0.0) are ganking these days.
/end story
This is what I feel is the problem. Now I've grown to love EFT quickness to QF's clunkiness (woot!), and I know the proggie will never change, but I'd just like to get the real cause out in the open, so some of us can feel a bit more rational when responding to whine threads.
peace.
Now let me explain 'ship balance' to you.
It means 'all things being equal is this ship in the end similair to any other ship of the same class?'.
Now I don't frankly give a damn if you compare them at level 5, level 4 or level 3 but you have to assume equal skills for you to get an OBJECTCIVE MEASURE OF THE SHIP.
Isn't that wild? By taking skills out of the equation you actually can see how balanced a ship is?
Seriously whine more and go join the Wow boards, you'll fit right in.
