So with skills maxed and t2 sentries theoretically a dominix with this setup:
hi: 6 x 350mm t2 railguns med: 3 x t2 sensor boosters 1 x t2 100mn microwarpdrive 1 x t2 tracking computer low: 1 x t2 signal amplifier 2 x t2 magnetic field stabilizers 1 x t2 damage control 1 x t2 1600mm reinforced steel plate 1 x t2 800mm reinforced steel plate 1 x t2 reactor control rigs: 1 x sentry damage rig 2 x drone scope rig
long range - spike ammo and t2 warden drones drones hit for full dmg out to about 97 km, guns about 112 km 618 dps
short range - javelin ammo and t2 garde drones drones hit for full dmg out to about 37 km, guns only about 16 km 927 dps
sounds like a very nifty cheap midrange sniper to me

you can get much better sniping megathron for the same price...or any other ship, why to bother with dominix? one of the worst sniping ships?

Edited by: Xio2 on 13/11/2007 19:14:13 cause its cheaper and does more damage also 1 more mid so better lock time... mega does have better range though -------------- Xio2 |

You can't snipe with senterys, without boosting the drone range. Then you will loos at least 2 high slots :( But domi with senterysII rocks on missions I got no fear, becuz i have a lot of beer :) |

Edited by: Xio2 on 13/11/2007 19:55:39 ah ok then so if target is outside of your drone control range sentry drones will not fire on it even if you have it locked?
if this is true this thing will still do about 900+ dps under 30km but wont be very good sniping outside of this unless you switch the drone scope rigs for drone control augmentation rigs which will give a drone control range of 90km -------------- Xio2 |

High: 4x Drone Control Unit, Something Med: 2x Omnitirectional Tracking Link, 2xSensor Booster, 1x MWD Low: Armor tank Rigs: 3x Drone Scope Chips Drones: Warden 2s
130km Sentry Optimal, 125km Drone Control Range, 157km Lock Range
Replace the Armor tank with Sensor Enhancers, then you can get the snipe range up to 160km.

100km isn't sniping, trust me I've tried and lost a sniper to a speed gang that caught me before I could align and get out. Also putting a mwd on a ship with plates is pretty silly. For a good sentry sniping setup look at the Ishtar and... well the Myrmidon until they nerf it to hell.
On a Myrm you can do this:
highs 4x drone links
mids: 2x sensor boosters 3x omni tracking links
lows: 2x nanofiber 2x inertial stabalizers 1x explosive hardener 1x ENAM
Gives you 371 DPS @ 124km, an align & warpout time of 5.8 seconds which you'll need to get out of there fast when the **** hits the fan, the hardeners help your overall HP situation a tad. Do what you like with the remaining highs and hope that they really won't kill the Ishtar as well with the next patch because that's likly the only ship in the game that will do this effectively.

I dont really consider it a fleet sniping ship... but it should be fairly effective in gangs where targets are moving in and out of range. the MWD is only there to get out of dictor bubbles or back to a gate.
its basically not very useful for sniping over 60 km but would do very well at providing blasterthron like dps to hacs and up in gang fights.
I also tried some ishtar setups like this and it can do upwards of 600 dps and can make a pretty cool drone sniper boat also

I'm not talking about fleet situations either, I'm talking about gatecamping against speed gangs and here's where you want every km of range you can get because those are extra seconds to align and warp out, at the very least take out the plates and put some nanofiber in because HP won't be saving your domi if a speed gang tries to hit you.

You're not going to get sentries to any decent range without a lot pumped into them. Better to go with a Mega, you can get 180km off its 425s (and can still plunk down 5 sentries if enemies close).

Actually, you can, in a sense.
Quote: ah ok then so if target is outside of your drone control range sentry drones will not fire on it even if you have it locked?
Correct.

FYI on drones.
All drones use the same basic core code, or at least right now they do.
The only difference between a T2 wasp and a T2 heavy shield rep drone is the amount of damage they do. wasps do, for example, +40 damage and the heavy shield rep drones do -20 damage. All EW/support drones function like mobile remote versions of the mods they work like.
This is where things get relevant to the discussion at hand.
Sentry drones work the exact same way as every other combat drone. Your target needs to be within control range in order to tell your drones to attack them.
Whether you are 1km from your sentries or 100km from your sentries if you have 45km of control range your target needs to be under 45km from your ship.
When I tested it out awhile back I had an ishkur drop a warden off while I chased after a coercer. At 150km from the warden I could still tell it to return to drone bay and then tell it to attack the coercer which was only 40km or so from my ishkur.
Now, this doesn't necessarily help out with true sniping (as in your ship is at range as well as your sentries) but it does give you the option of dropping sentries 80-100km from a central point and using them as sniper guns on their own.
The only really good use for them like that, however, is gate camping or if you're running a mining op that's worth that sort (as in not dropping all 5 of your drones in one place) of setup time.
Just some devil's advocate fun.

Edited by: Redd Lenses on 14/11/2007 00:19:40 If you're going to drone snipe, snipe with the Ishtar. You can make it go 4-6km/s, lock at 180+km, and have a drone control range of that far as well. You can drop t2 heavies or t2 sentries anywhere and run.

The instant shield recharge has little to do with sentries.

You all can forget about sniping anything, once the sensor booster nerf hits TQ. Please refer to the scripts thread in the Development forum. |
