I must be missing something. I've been playing the game about 3-4 weeks. And just got killed by a can stealer in high-sec. Now, I know about can flipping. And I'm very careful to make sure I leave my can window open so I know when it's been popped.
Anyway, there was a guy taking snags from my can, so I brought out a hauler to sit right on top of it. Removing ore as soon as I dropped it in. He had been flying around for about 10 mins flashing red to me. And I dropped 4 more cans with 1 ore each with my hauler to make things a little harder for him to target and get my ore drops.
It had been going ok, I would dropped ore in my open can window, switch to hauler and pll it out. Well all of a sudden he starts attacking my miner and I'm in a pod very quickly. I warp to station and ask him how he got kill rights on me. He said I targeted wrong can and stole from him. I told him I never removed anything from any cans on my miner was only depositing into a can window I kept open.
He suggested that I tried to reposition items in his can... stack items I guess?
This got me wondering, I know I recieve warning windows when you go to steal from someone. Do you also get warning windows from repositioning items?
Is there things I can do that will give others kill rights on me, that won't give me a warning box? I have not turned off any of the warning messages (the do not show me this again check boxes).

I think blowing up abandoned drones in high-sec will get you CONCORDOKKNED. No warning either. At least that was the case last time I checked on Singularity. -- Support fixing the EVE UI | Suggest Jita fixes

Edited by: Garborg on 14/11/2007 21:23:25 There should be warning boxes for anything that gives kill rights on you. It's rediculous how many people like to kill new players cause they know something that new players don't understand yet.

It is a common tactic for thieves to steal ore and put it into a new can right next to you hopeing that you take it. Then they can attack you. Also watch out for can baiters. Ive seen alot of them lately hanging out at stations waiting for someone to take some items from a can. Seen alot of them lately.

Edited by: Garborg on 14/11/2007 21:36:10 Well I know I didn't take anything from a can. He told me that I had stacked items in his can. I have no clue how but he told me that is how he had kill rights.
He didn't kill my hauler which was pulling items. He killed my miner who was only depositing items.

I would recommend moveing a few jumps or so out and mine where it is unoccupied. Griefers seem to always traget new players near starting systems.

I believe it goes something like this (not 100% sure but someone can test it)
1) The thief take some ore or whatever from the can, not a whole stack 2) They then redeposit it in the can, not on the same stack that was left over 3) They take the remaining stack and then redeposit it also
Now if your miner adds to the stacks or splits or moves you get flagged. As I said you would have to test it out cause there is a little strange voodoo involved with can flagging.
Why are you still reading? Its over. Continue to the next post.

Uh, nope. You can't put anything in a can that someone else owns. I have tried before when I was in a gang and it split and I was looting the wrecks left behind and salvaging. Many time I have tried to put metal scraps or 800 cap charges in a can owned by someone who was in my gang only to get the message, "You do not own this blah blah blah..." I have no idea how he would have gotten kill right if what you say is true. Of course I could be mistaken and maybe there is a way to put something in someone elses can...
I would look at my logs and see what happened and then petition the event if something buggy happened.
Just my two cents.
