in total there are 32,000 pilots with negative standings, but most of those have a standing between 0 and -0.1. So when do you count as a pirate? is difficult to infer that from security data alone, but to have a security status of -3 or lower actually requires considerable effort on behalf of the pilot. Hence it is possible to say that anyone at that level or lower counts as a pirate. Tthere are 4,200 pilots with a standing of -3 or worse, and only 32 pilots that have reached the perfect criminal score of -10.
Interesting information. So it's proven by the numbers, if you are in an "Anti-pirate" alliance your alliance/corp is essentially "Anti-pvp".
And people wonder why the pirate profession becomes so attractive.
If only 32,000 pilots are neg sec status, that leaves almost 178,000 potential targets (taking numbers from the econ newsletter that lists the current active member count at around 200k)
Just some interesting info that I thought I'd share. Discuss or flame at your leisure.

erm... surely if 32,000 people have neg sec status, that leaves er... approx 200k targets? or do you for some reason refuse to fire on people with -1.0 etc? _____________________________________ today i am this cool: [uncool]================[*]====[cool]

I personally do not care what sec status my target is. I was just referring to the various corps and alliances that have such "rules" restricting pvp.
Just thought some people would find the numbers interesting as I'm sure players do not read an "economic" newsletter.

It's not a concern about sec status, it's just that if you pirate in 0.0, your sec status will be fine.
Therefore, those close to 5k pilots with the big negative sec status hits are all low sec pirates.
How many 0.0 pirates are there? We have no idea, they don't show up in the report.

He has it right so there are only 3200 low sec pirates. Sounds about right to me. I too am going to be at that good ol -10 status soon enough. Good to know I'll be in good company

You can roll your eyes or try and convince yourself that this discussion on piracy includes 0.0 gankers, but really low sec pirates and 0.0 pvpers/gankers are two seperate groups of people. While they are not mutually exclusive, they are still very different.
My point is clearly in regards to low sec pirates...but yea, anyway...

I recently hit a perfect -10... Then I came across a domination bs in some carebear's mission. He got away but the faction spawn gave me a halo beta, and also ruined my perfect -10

There are almost no pirates in 0.0. What you have are privateers working at the behest of an alliance. True pirates do not answer to anyone- especially not some alliance commander uber-dork that is not aware he is in a game.

Most anti-pirate corps/alliances operate essentially NRDS, where red standing is predicated by being identified as a pirate corp. Being identified as a pirate corp usually arises out of a corp operating as NBSI in the anti-pie's area of operation and generally messing with peaceful neuts...
There are a lot of NBSI corps/alliances, and so no shortage of targets.
It's just a matter of you doing something to get shot, rather than being shot merely for existing.

Ravens in belts. Carriers playing the undock game at a station.
How many low sec pirates have ever tried ransoming a 1000 man alliance by threatening to STAY in their space until the money shows up?
Biggest difference between low sec and 0.0 is the numbers. I've never seen a 40 man gang engage a 100 man gang on a gate/station/pos in low sec.
Happens daily in 0.0.
Neither is better or superior. Just preference. . .. WELP! .. . |

That is almost always the case. Anti-pirates are simply deceptive and dishonorable pirate wanna-bes; they trick people into thinking they are safe around them and then comes the gank.
