As I understand it empty slots act as heat syncs letting you run overheated modules longer and that you can repair modules in space in the upcoming patch. Marauders only have half as many turrets so your already producing half as much heat. Take a Kronos fit 4 turrets, now leave the other 3 slots empty in-between the turrets.
Half as much heat with extra heat reduction could mean you can leave your turrets overheating none stop with the lvl 5 skill. Or for a long time then you use the isk you save on using less ammo and put it towards fixing the turrets in space.

Spiral staircases in medieval castles are running clockwise. This is because all knights used to be right-handed. When the intruding army would climb the stairs they would not be able to use their right hand which was holding the sword because of the difficulties of climbing the stairs. Left-handed knights would have had no troubles, except left-handed people could never become knights because it was assumed that they were descendants of the devil.

Edited by: Shardrael on 15/11/2007 07:51:09 I didnt know that about overheating pottsey and if thats the case its pretty damn special actually.
and for the nubbins that say who cares...... if you cant see the benefit in that then you are about as smart or tactically sound as a stump.....
"hey guys guess what I have a ship here that does 1000 dps normally,, and then when I push this button it does 1150 for 5 minutes......." no who would want that....
edit: for a further example, lets say you have a tachyon sniping paladin which would pretty much be an awesome dps ship at sniping. what are you gonna fit in those other high slots that would be very useful at 170km's out? nothing that can equal out to an extra 15% dmg for the duration of the engagement.

The real question is, why would anyone use marauders in pvp on a regular basis where it would matter?
700M-900M per ship after invention/build costs.. barely outperforms t1 BSes, have weak sensor strength with the upcoming ECM ship boosts (t1 BB noobs will perma jam marauders with ONE mid slot). Importantly, their insurance will blow.
It's ok for pve, but meh.. what a stupid ship design. |

yes, because "LOL DPS!" shows much more tactical awareness than using those highs for remote repping, cap disruption, and ye know... general team work and fleet/gang tactics?

kk, you take your +dps sniping gang, and sit them 170km away from an equal sized snipe gang all remote repping the primary, see who lasts longer. _____________________________________ today i am this cool: [uncool]================[*]====[cool]

please tell me why i should use a paladin over a abbadon. The paladin sux...period.
To the topic. i wouldnt want to sacrifice that many slots for the little gain you get.

The +dps gang will, the remote repair gang wont get a chance to activate their modules on the primary before it explodes.
The mauraders will be very good for low-sec gate camping where they can load up on remote reps, a bit of projected ECCM, and stick close togother. And the remote reps certianly wont be inconsequential in other settings, just not the sniper gang.

The only reason not to use the Paladin is that it is expensive. It uses half the cap of the Abaddon, can fit a full rack of Tachyons without PG mods, has a cap bonus to let it fire even longer, and has 3 free high slots for overloading or remote repair fitting for after the battle. Since it uses so little PG and cap compared to the current Abaddon, it is easy enough to fit an ECCM in the meds and have about the same sensor strenghth.
So you get more of either DPS, range, or hit points, and can fire longer while not being dependant on cap charges.

I think distance between modules and gaps between modules is something CCP is PLANNING to introduce to heat.
But at the moment it doesn't exist.
Perma-running overheated modules is only planned for Tech 3 modules, and even then it wont be perma-heat. So I doubt CCP will introduce anything to let you keep your T1 or T2 modules overheated for more than a minute or two.

Ships & Mods didn't use to be this full of *******s, you guys used to stay in C&P, COAD and Gen Pop for the most part. Uh, Gen Discussion I mean. Too bad even this section is now infected with such needless and useless hate.
If empty slots really will offer better heat dissipation that's very interesting indeed. I don't remember reading (or testing, for that matter) anything to that effect. Good news for marauders if it's true.

If you are gonna do that, take your gang of normal bs remote repping and sit it 170k away from a gang of remote repping marauders. Seeing as marauders will be able to fit the remote reppers without losing any dps they are better in a remote repping gang too .... so in either remote repping gang or without remote repping marauder gets an edge, not saying its necessarily a big edge.

i think nobody denies that marauders are good for pvp (and evenbetter considering heat). but overheating and PVE = not common and not realy needed imho..

Nice thinking out of the box . There may be hope for the Marauders after all. If the devs were thinking about this all along, wow , nice curve ball there .
But of course, it's all going to depend on what the costs of repairing mods in space is going to be like (resource-wise, time-wise, etc.)

so far my golem pwned every t1 bs on sis while tanking 3-4 of them at the same time. (+ 30 cap 800's in cargo ftw!). yeah they suck for pvp.. did you ever test them out? idoubt so because then you wouldn't complain. the only drawback ican tink about right now is that they gonna sell at carrier cost which makes them pointles. if they gonna sell for 3-400 mil tough you never see me in a raven again:)
