At first when they introduced salvage (a year ago), you had to loot a wreck first to be able to salvage it. Of course, what that meant is that if it was someone else's loot, you couldn't salvage without being flagged so the owner of the loot could attack you.
Then CCP changed it to the system we have now specifically to allow people to salvage wrecks with loot belonging to someone else without them being flagged.
The salvage belongs to the salvager.

If you are serious enough about salvage you will salvage as soon as you can. If that is not, before someone else who IS serious about salvage comes along, you are not SERIOUS enough about your salvage. That is all there is to it. GET SERIOUS. And stop whining about YOUR lack of intent.

Excuse me !
I did the mission in my combat ship and went to get my salvager, within that timeframe he managed to find them and salvage.
Personally I think he managed to fin me in the mission and cloaked and waited otherwise he would not have had the time.

Shoot the wrecks when someone enters your mission, they will get bored and leave you alone.
You end up loosing some but the denial tactics work great.

Edited by: R3aliti on 15/11/2007 15:23:41 Edited by: R3aliti on 15/11/2007 15:18:43 Oh mission cans. What kind of missions are you running? I guess I have gotten use to all of my LVL 4s being in deadspace. Even when running deadspace missions I have a player (in a Viator/Salvager) waiting one gate back. I go in kill and then the player uses the gate to get to me and cleanup/salvage, while I reload and get cap/shields back up. Then I go to the next gate, they follow after I have completed all the kills.
Maybe you should find a friend to do this with you - it works very well for me and the wife. In a squad/gang you also get the boost - the wife has all leadership at LVL 5 - hint hint :)

Level 3's, was in deadspace but I kill everything go back to agent to finish mission so i can use MWD on my salvager. I'm guessing he either knew where I was or as I said warped in while I was fighting and cloaked.
I could get someone to help but don't like to bother poeple.
I've not had this happen on level 4 missions mind.

Edited by: R3aliti on 15/11/2007 15:32:48 Sure people are going to BM their DS missions in hopes of getting away with this - just get someone to go with you on the missions and do it they way me and the wife do. Their BM is useless if the mission is still active - at least I think that is the case.
Get yourself a Mission cleanup buddy. :) Config your Viator for speed. The standard cargo is more than enough. Put a 10MN Ab on it, you can get to the cans at 900+ m/s if you really need to.

and get out of the caldari mission hub systems.
Probe users have it easy in there, as you cant hardly swing a dead cat without hitting a mission runner and a field of yummy wrecks. Its easy, more probers come, etc, etc.
You run a mission in a less populated place, they have to scan a long time and might not succeed, get annoyed and go back to the big hubs (and take their dead cats with them)

Not sure if this helps as I've never had to combat this issue, but you can salvage before your turn the mission in. If it is still in deadspace, maybe he won't bother to go after your salvage. I use a destroyer to loot/salvage and though I usually use 1mn mwd, I've found that I can fit a 10mn ab for use in deadspace. Instead of 5 tractors/3 salvagers, I can only run 4 tractors and 3 salvagers though.

Deadspace areas have interference that make it harder to pick up your ship or drones in them. Hence by salvaging before the mission is turned in, you have some more protection from being probed out. Not perfect protection however, just improved.

I don't believe the intention was ever to allow mission invaders to steal salvage from wrecks that the mission runner fully intended to salvage. The goal was merely to allow salvagers to salvage abandoned wrecks. Can and probably will... If you are running lvl3 and have good drones skills use a Domi with 3 tractor and 3 salvage.
With a good fit you can kill and salvage faster then doing missions and coming back.
Gal BS 5 Heavy drones 5 All spec to 4 Interfacing 5
I know it sounds skill intensive but I do it for lvl 4 even just need to be careful at times.

Don't leave drones behind and don't hang at the entrance to deadspace for too long. That's the only reasons i have found people. AFK before a mission. do it in a station. complete the mission take your drones with you. The drones or ships is what the search for. if you are behind a deadspace gate its much harder to be found. if drones are left behind at the entrance its like a big flag. You can't search for the wrecks or cans.....yet

I think it makes it harder for them. Btw, the oversized ab goes about as fast as the mwd.

Flag the salvager just like with looting cans.
Mebbe put a timer on it, if the wreck isn't salvaged or the can emptied within 1h it becomes public property and anyone can take it without getting a flag on his ass. CCP, let us pay the online shop with Direct Debit!!! Magners is now recruiting, evemail me or Dagazbo ingame.

Edited by: Taedrin on 15/11/2007 18:29:53 There are several ways to stop people from stealing your salvage:
- Nerf your DPS by 25% and fit a tractor/salvager on your combat ship. Salvage as you run the mission. If salvager tries to salvage the mission while you run it, try warping out to get the rats to aggro him.
- Avoid popular mission running systems.
- Run missions in low sec, where you can kill the salvager without CONCORD interference.
Obviously, there are downsides to each of these options: For the first one, by fitting tractor/salvagers, you nerf your DPS, and thus the rate at which you run missions. It is, however, much easier to do this on drone ships and ships which have 8 high slots, but only 6 turrets.
For the second option, you sacrifice convenience. In some cases, you may even have to find a new corp to run missions for, and re-grind your standings.
For the third option, you sacrifice safety. You can kill the salvager, but you also have to worry about a different kind of mission invader.
I for one, have *never* had to worry about people stealing my salvage, but I haven't salvaged my missions in a long time anyways.
