I never noticed this on tranq, but just a sec ago on sisi I noticed some .6 rats shooting giant cans, one of which was below half structure. Is this something new or have I just been oblivious all this time?
I do like the idea of those rats shooting cans, as it would help clear things up a bit. |

Except this is what you do, warp in, aggro, drop can, warp out. Wait 2 min for them to aggro can and warp back in and watch as rats keep shooting can and ignore you = profit.
Think it'll work in Lv5 missions too? Just send in the hauler with giant cans before anything else...

Nah - not stealth. It has been talked about over a month now. Sorry I don't know the exact threads but I am sure if you do a search you will see them.
My personal opinion on rats and cans - Please give them to TQ during the next DT. ________________________

What about active and used cans, the idea is awesome if they only target inactive cans but what about cans used daily?

I'd hope the rats do not differentiate and just shoot everything. Screw permanent GSCs.

Rat roids shooting cans? I would suggest those rats visit a proctologist at their earliest convenience.
Typos aside, some Sisi rats had been observed shooting cans. Perhaps all those cans will go away eventually.

To me it seem this "solution" has some hole:
1) no rats in the 1.0 and 0.9 systems;
2) rats spawn or warp to any warpable object, included can hidden in deep safespots. so every can will be targeted in time and destroyed. Even those used to store ammunitions and maybe even those near POS (pos guns will react?).
Not exactly a perfect solution, even if the rats will use a lot of time to chew throug a can.

1) not an isue or at least only an issue for Legacy cans as yo can't anchor cans in 1.0 and .9 anymore
2) I'm sure it's only limited to where rats spawn anyway.. belts and gates and if they did come to a POS .. they would get pew pewed and if they did go to deep safe spots they would eventually finish and come back to the belts.
All goodness in my book .. in fact I think that rats should be able to break into the can .. steal the goodies then blow it up .. so that if you kill the rat then you can get the goodies.

why would rats shoot cans anchored in safe spots?? they aren't really that much of a problem anyway. the real issue is all that can spam at the ice belts.
my concerns with rats shooting cans are:
- what about legit cans that are actively used? basically if all cans are vulnerable, they are no longer viable to anchor in belts, period. so in order to still use them, it would require some kind of "idle timeout" on the cans before rats can shoot them.
- this makes the rats dumb easy targets. while they are shooting a can, a player may be able to come along an pwn them without taking a single hit. as was already mentioned, some players take advantage of it for easymode ratting. this is fixable by improving the AI of the rats, to only shoot cans if there are no other available targets. as soon as someone appears, they switch targets and stop shooting the can.
~~~~ ~~~~ ~~~~ Take away the risk and it would make flying around in space utterly pointless.
Take away the flying around part and you make EVE into a space themed spreadsheet application. |
I don't think that the rats shooting the cans is intended behaviour.
If it is, regularly used cans can be repaired most likely with the remote hull repairer module.
You wont get there in time, imagine a bunch of rats constantly attacking your can in low-populated system as there is little mining competetion or stuff. Eventually we all have to get some sleep or whatever and after several hours your cans will eventually die, it would also be a serious PITA to constantly have to move back and forward just to fix cans.
I like the idea if the cans targetted are inactive/idle for a certain period but otherwise all cans will essentialy be useless, especially in 0.0 for ammo storage. Dumb as the rats may be and as easy as you may kill them, they will constantly respawn and hit your can every second it is not protected.
Maybe I was not clear, but rats warp or spawn to locations with anchored containers, even if there are no belts or planets in the same grid. So a can anchored in deep space by some PvPer of ratter in 0.0 will be destroyed by rats soone or later.
And the legacy can are a problem in my book. At least as much as the other high sec cans. They both clutter space and give a unfair advantage to those that have access to them.
Hmm, from how rats deal with drones I'd have assumed that rats don't shoot the cans anymore, after the player has left the belt. I mean, if you forget drones in a belt with rats and warp out and come back 10 minutes later, the drones are usually still there, because the npcs did nothing in the meantime. They just start shooting them again, when someone comes into the belt and then they go *poof* --------------------------------------------- *snip* |
