They specifically stated they will not use a Torrent because many ISPs block those (they said they could not even get their own patch in their own office because Torrents are blocked there).
Torrents are not blocked by ISPs unless there is a request from the customer (thus meaning custom ACLs on the i/f(s) of the customer) to block specific ports. In fact many ISPs rent racks to companies that have mirror servers. Usually are black boxes (the ISP doesn't know what is in the servers).
Don't forget that torrent programs can use any port you specify in their preferences. In example port 80 (HTTP). Torrents are usually blocked by the IT staff of the company/organization on the Edge devices. Reason is that the bandwidth is valuable to get the job done and not for a employer to saturate the network with his downloads (yes it happens every time).
Sorry, but you're wrong. A lot of the major ISPs in north america throttle torrent and p2p traffic in general, irregardless of port or encryption. Only way around it is by tunneling through a vpn, or similar.
Also, would the person whining amarr down in front please shut up. You people are worse than the caldari fanboys who tried to justify the old missiles.

The development "classic" patch, from Revelations 2.3 to Trinity is currently 27 MB. It contains some 7 MB of translations that are there only for testing purposes at this point but is missing some old-style models for new ships. So 20-30 MB is a reasonable estimate at this point.
All clients will be autopatched from Revelations 2.3 to Trinity at deployment and you can start playing right away when the server is up.
Then you will be able to download the art content patch in the background. It looks like it will be 600-700 MB.
All numbers subject to change.
So, some of us are limited as to how much we can download per day...will there an a external link to the art content? If I download that in the background I will never finsh thanks to HughesNEt being the biggest POS of a ISP in the whole fracking world...

So, basically, there's a patch, and that's just like any other of the large patches we've experienced (which are pretty good IMO)? Meanwhile, the totally optional graphics upgrade will slowly download in the background, and we can still play in the meantime. 'Course, I won't be downloading that, so I guess I'll still be depending heavily on my CPU.

Everyone gets the new engine cal.. The art is simply a higher resolution option for cards that support it so you will finally get to use your card fully after the 20mb patch..

No, everyone gets the new graphics engine. The optional part is the shiny new models.

As someone noted above ISPs are most definitely blocking Torrents on their own. Here is one article on the subject.
Comcast is getting even scarier with the technology:
Quote: Comcast's technology kicks in, though not consistently, when one BitTorrent user attempts to share a complete file with another user.
Each PC gets a message invisible to the user that looks like it comes from the other computer, telling it to stop communicating. But neither message originated from the other computer ù it comes from Comcast. If it were a telephone conversation, it would be like the operator breaking into the conversation, telling each talker in the voice of the other: "Sorry, I have to hang up. Good bye."
SOURCE: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21376597/
Essentially they are snooping on your traffic rather than merely blocking a port then sending messages to your PC to mess it up.

what about those of us who have lop sided bandwidth limits (ie you can download unlimited between 10pm and 8am, but outside those hours you're limited to 30GB etc) can we download the art/big stuff separately?

A downloadable full patch would be ideal for me.
I can use my super fast download at work and then burn it onto DVD(s) as needed without taxing my home net connection.

I'm no expert, but patches are patches are patches really.
Yes, but the 2 unscheduled problems are guaranteed to be at least 5-10 hours each :)
Well, might be, in worst case. But i think it'll go smoother then a babies bottom dowwn an oiled slip and slide in the vacuum of space
