of course we understand you saying that, but can you really tell yourself that people wont latch onto it as an excuse when they DO get pvp'd outside of said system?
there "are" game mechanics in place to allow players to set up their own and there ARE succesful player run pvp "events" that take advantage of them, check out the "championship" threads in the events forum for more details

No. Any consensual system should have no effect whatsoever on the game. No gain, no loss, no ranking, no anything. Otherwise it encroaches on the territory of the existing system.

I fully support this idea... thinking further down the road we could introduce elves and long swords and possibly rangers... how cool would it be to have a pet wolf fly along side your frigate!

You 0.0 guys realise that 99% of the players using an arena system for pvp would be from the billowing ranks of the empire huggers who would never ever under any other circumstance engage in "traditional" pvp yes? As I said earlier this could only have a positive effect on future recruiting as it wipes out the true carebears from the list and brings the ones who like to fight out in the open who for whatever reason have never left empire.. Think of it as a pvp academy of sorts to let players get some experience in a controlled enviroment before they get sent to the meatgrinder of alliance combat..

Otherwise maybe declaring war on random corps in empire comes also into my mind, althouigh I didn't like it before, but I get really bored of fleet stuff and big roaming gang stuff in 0.0.
