Hi there,
i just launched a "ALPHA" version of my evetube.com website. The priority is quality, sound is 128kbit, videostreams are 3Mbit/s or 2.4Mbit/s. There is a native fullscreenmode and you can embedd the videos into your website (play around with the buttons in the player).
Some guy announced a evetube a while ago, but i registered the domain a few months ago. I just had no time to create it :)
I will add 5 Videos everyday. A archiv and a remote downloader will come within 2 weeks.
Server is connected 100Mbit/s. So check it out please :)

Relativly good video quality but the sound quality is kinda bad. Is the a list of all vids that were uploaded cuz I only see latest vids and top vidz.

wow thanks all. I know there is alot of stuff missing, i just hacked this together on friday/saturday. There is no login, comments, categorys, tags etc. because my plan was to check first how it goes :)
i add a browse functionality and tags and a few more features within the next days :)

Nice site, but it needs way more bandwidth. Trying to watch teh capfight vid I had to stop at least 10 times to allow it to buffer.

depends... videos are streamed from 2.4-3mbit/s and the server is located in germany.
at the moment there are only 11Mbit/s outgoing. Maybe it is just a peering problem atm. It will help to start and pause the movie so that the background download still continues. And when the buffer is high enough start watching.
I will work on this. If the site is a success i will move servers soon to a 300mbit/s host with a good peering for non europe countrys. But it will take some time.

as i said it really depends where are you from.
europe = fine
usa = depends on peering
i check out if i can mirror the streamingfiles to another server hosted in canada and implement a check to figure out where the visitor is coming from.
if you have troubles and the videos are stalling can you supply a traceroute output for me please?

upload a high quality movie to stage6 and to evetube and you will find out, especially in "NATIVE" fullscreen mode :)

I uploaded my own video up there and watched it. Quality loss is not a whole much, buffering from norway was bloody excellent and the site in general is very nice.
Very nice effort and to help you add some features.
Ability to donate money to help out running it.
Ability to search for vids, sorted by categories or even both.

Hardly.
Stage6 has no bitrate limit, and around a 2 GB file size limit.
I can easily upload HD 1080p videos there in very nice quality. You clearly haven't used Stage6 much.

hey wasnt my intention to **** you off, sorry if you got me wrong. The last im doing is to say that nobody else got a clue about whatever.
The Bitrate limit is no problem since i can mirror all the streamingfiles to other servers and load the streamfiles from them when the bandwith of the primary server is nearly at max.
At the moment however the max peaks are only 60Mbit/s, so there is still plenty of time when it grows.
The idea is to have them all at one special place ready to watch without the need of some non-standard browser plugins like the divx webplayer one.
In fact is it allready used to show peoples who are interessted in EVE-Online what the game can deliver. Nobody needs to use it if he doesnt want to. I do not want to make any profit with this, i just have the resources and have fun using it for a game we all enjoy.

The idea is good. I got really bad buffering issues when I was poking around though. Plus I will take it a lot more seriously 4 or 5 months down the line if you can keep up with the server load and resist spamming adverts.

I really enjoy this site, as it's one of the very few eve related sites I can access at work, (stage6 is a no-go) so I can spend literally hours watching kickass eve videos :D
Although, being on the east coast of USA, it does require me to start/pause a movie for about 10 minutes prior to viewing, but I can live with that :)

yeah there are a few problems in the encoding process with some codecs resulting in sound out of sync a bit or wrong aspect ratio. I still try to figure this out :)

a little status ;)
after like 1 week evetube.com burned 2.4 TB traffic with 81 Movies in the database.
Changes for the coming week are:
- A "per ship" archiv where you can look for videos where a featured ship is active
- Comments and Ratings for Videos
In January i will move the server to a 300Mbit/s line with good connectivity to non-european countrys and talk with chribba again for a co-operation. So that you can watch AND download from a few fast servers.

so this time i REALLY fixed the sync problem, switched from mencoder to ffmpeg as encoder. i tested with Eve Never Fades and Loftys Tortugwaah video ( http://evetube.com/index.php?playid=154 ).
i will try to reencode all previous uploaded videos too but this will take some time.

Also, as i could nit find, if you added a forum to it and allowed people to create user names so that players could be watched and so that players could see their videos, that would be cool.

yeah as soon i have some time off in my company i will improve it and add userprofiles etc. Uploads/Downloads can be slow for some people outside europe because the Server is hosted in Germany, the server will be relocated in a few weeks

Awesome, tested it out with one of my older ones and the quality is excellent. Sync is perfect now as well which sure as hell kills youtube. The only issue is aspect ratios, stuff done in 16:9/10 or whatever looks a bit stretched, but it's no big deal.

i have this only with this video the others seems to be fine... dunno what went wrong with the encoding. We also had some out of sync troubles with the older movies but this was solved by switching from mencoder to ffmpeg. i will take a look at it
...

Sorry guys i do not play EVE at the moment so i read my ingame mails not this often, but i check this forumthread.
The videos are showing, sometimes the bandwith drops to heavy usage, we had 5.7TB Traffic alone last month. If you cant see the player upgrade to at least Flashplayer 9...
And vasili i looked already at your video and reencoded it several times, but nor mencoder nor ffmpeg can fix the sound. Evetube depends on opensource utilities for encoding. I will download it today and re-encode it localy.

yes i added adverts to the site, the server is not longer sponsored by my company because the contract expired so i have to pay it myself now. You only see the advertising on the first visit, then it got a reload block for 3 1/2 hours. I got almost 1.5TB space on this machine and generating 7 Terabyte traffic a month so i hope you can forgive me :)
I also plan to rewrite the whole page and add all the missing features, sounds like a weekend project for me, to bad that i suck in webdesign, maybe someone want to help me out with the design part? :) |

This site is awesome, but I have one complaint..
It plays about 5 seconds of video, then buffers for 5 minutes, then plays another 5 seconds of video.
Maybe make the required preplay buffer a bit longer, just to be on the safe side. I dont mind waiting for it to come through, it's just the constant starting and stopping that is no bueno.

depends on the time, because of the high traffic the connection gets shapped sometimes and due a error it only goes back to 100Mbit/s with user intervention, so in the night when nobody is there to switch the port back it might get slow because evetube only runs on 10Mbit/s then :/

Small bug report: whenever I watch a movie I would turn the sound down on the player itself. But when it starts buffering it will "forget" my sound setting and turn it back to full volume (although the slider doesn't move).

currently i have like 6 TerraByte traffic a month, since i have to pay myself for the traffic since 2 months evetube needs this ads. Google adsense doesnt perform on a video only side since it shows ads based on the text, evetube got videos not text.
believe me i do not get rich at all, the layerads are enough to pay the server and hosting for this traffic intensive website, and you only see them 1 time each 3 hours, so there is no bigdeal in it, just click them away.

An EXCELLENT idea but not well implemented yet. Despite your large bandwidth use on the meter at the bottom of the page, most of the videos buffer horribly even on my 6MB connection. I can stream movies in DVD quality but EVEtube won't play a single vid straight through.
Also, your comment system is borked on FF. Please do fix this as I'd like to share with the editors and posters how much I like their vids but I'm not about to use Internet Exploder for anything, not even that.

To avoid messy titles like \"This is a quoted text\" switch off "Magic Quotes" in the php.ini if you escape the input in your script.
magic_quotes_gpc = Off
Currently your script is escaping quotes to \" then "php magic quotes" escapes them to \\", stays \" in the database

the idea behide eve tube is great I love it. But streaming video is out dated and a bad idea. its laggy and unreliable. you need to be able to pause and wait for a chunch to load then start watching it not load as you watch.

Yeah it's taking crazy amounts of time to buffer. The last vid i watched was about 15-20 minutes of buffering for 5-6 minutes of movie.
The first time I visited the site it was super fast. I guess you are gtting a lot of traffic or something, because it is deathly slow now. I just tried to watch a video right now. It barely started to buffer. Just sat there with the striped play line forever. Got about 20 secs of movie for a 3-4 minute buffer.

evetube made a major change today.
all new uploaded videos get encoded in H 264 with AAC as audio codec in a resolution of 1080x720. This reduce the size of the streaming files with a better quality then the flash video files that often were larger then the original video file. This also makes it possible to stream the videos to clients with a not so good DSL/Cable Connection.
All old videos where we stil have the original files (this with download function) are in the queue for re-encoding.
All H 264 Videos show a tiny h264/aac icon.
I also have a close eye on the bandwithproblem, if our server is limited to 10Mbit/s (security measure by the hosting provider) a sms information to me is triggered to change it back to 100Mbit and a notice is shown that evetube is in limited bandwith mode.
The ****y layer-advertising have been disabled already a few weeks ago.

thats no lame excuse thats a fact. I fixed this damn bug when Dr Panda reported it again, and yes i know that its there for a long time. Fact is sometimes it works and sometimes it doesnt, i dont get it. I never said im some pro in webdesign or webprogramming, im a sysop no webdeveloper, sorry for this.
As example i just posted 2 comments with firefox, this time it worked and still works, last time it didnt when i tried to replicate your bugreport. If i find the "SPARE TIME" to add logins and a own commentsystem (as i said im using some comment component downloaded somewhere...) i will do it.

How did you come up with this resolution?
I am just curiouse since it gives an aspect ratio of 1.5:1 which is a bit off from whats usually used and results in a small deformation of the original video.
My Videos for example are intended for an aspect ratio of 16:9 (1.77:1) and most people will probably record at a standard 4:3 (1.33:1).
Maybe somethin to consider for future changes

evetube.com is not maintained anymore, i launch a new plattform this month called DamageDealer.
I gathered all the requests from this thread and worked on a evetube relaunch in the past few months, i noticed that i can expand this service also to other games. So Evetube will relaunch this month under damagedealer.com.
A pre-beta (available in german and english) is available under www.damagedealer.com and www.damagedealer.de, sadly the english translation is not this good at this stage.
You can check out all the evetube videos in the alpha application @ damagedealer eve-portal
DD will allow you to find old guildmates, upload pictures and videos using a flickr like uploader and much more. If you sign up to DD you can write comments, vote and much more, no captcha troubles anymore.
Before the launch i will also add a posibility to assign videos uploaded by me (phantom) which got transfered from evetube to your DD account. I still have a ****load of work todo like full working search etc.
But i hope you like it so far...
