With the advent of Ambulation and more specifically the ability to do things such as design clothing and hairstyles, how will individuals protect their intellectual property such as specific clothing designs? After all, if someone spends much time and effort creating an interesting design, they wouldn't want the first person who sees it to take a screenshot and then release the same thing at a cheaper rate.
Devs, if you have any ideas on this please feel free to let me know. ---------------- Tarminic - 29 Million SP in pink Forum Warfare |

Thinking of a career in fashion design there?
I suppose the designs can and will be stolen just like everything else in Eve

You wont see unique designs in Eve, because it would require some content screeners & opens a large can of worms.
Why would they let you own IP using their IP ? Games Development is all about the IP, without it, your just another Korean MMO. ___

I don't know tarminic that's hoping too much I think.
it seems to me that the modifications you can make to clothing will be stuff like, add the pre-made sliver lining to the pre-made pants in one of the pants low slots. thus it would in the end really be all of CCPs stuff.
unless you mean player one is the first to combine these 4 elements into a shirt, thus is another player makes the same thing after that player he has to pay the original intellectual property?
maybe I'm confused :P

Possibly, but with a few relatively simple tools you can actually create a wide variety of designs (which would be consistent with CCP's approach anyway). Even a simple text editor that allows you to place a single sentence on a shirt could lead to hundreds of different individual designs.
I think that if CCP wants there to be a flourishing business in Ambulation, they'll include these features. I could be wrong though. ---------------- Tarminic - 29 Million SP in pink Forum Warfare |

A perminat item attribute of "made by Tarminic" in the info, I think would be the closest thing you'd get. If you could actually put anytext you want on the clothes imagine how many people will be walking round with "FLICK". They may also come into issues with people writing "NIKE" and 'REBOK SUX LULZ" etc. ___

True, but technically the same thing can happen in any field where the user can enter text, such as ship names, cans, and station names. I assume the same policy would be used. ---------------- Tarminic - 29 Million SP in pink Forum Warfare |

IIUC from the Fanfest presentation; The clothes that you'll see in ambulation won't be designed by players. They will be a limited set for selection dependent upon your character race. So you can mix-'n'-match, but you won't be designing them.

Pfft, clothes. I want to be able to sell capital ship guns in an ambulation shop. With a firing range to demonstrate them. And hookers to entice the customers.
In fact, forget the guns and the firing range. -

I just want a seedy low sec strip bar to frequent with well rendered and animated nubile young minmater slave women dancing on the tables (think high rez DOA.. ) and some funky GFX effect to simulate the various drugs/alchohol I can virtually use.. Is that too much to ask?! Is it?!

Personally I hope they don't acknowledge any IP relating to player generated content with the use of their tools. Better yet force transfer of any rights from the 'creator' to CCP as a condition of use. The idea that people owned something in the game could be devastating to the gritty underworld that is Eve. People are already saying that in game theft is equivalent to real world theft on the boards, if they had even a modicum of actual right to 'their' objects things could get messy but quick.
Better that either the rights are transfered to CCP, or that CCP pre-generate all possible combinations and just allow players to 'discover them' or some such measure.
Of course take every thing in this post with a grain of salt, I'm not a lawyer. I'm sure CCP pays several very well to handle this kind of situation. |

The modifications will be adjustments in the color scheme from what the fanfest videos tell us. This is to avoid us walking around in neon green/yellow, generally unwearable stuff and near total lack of clothes on female avatars.

...and this would be bad because... ? I do hope Ambulation will be anatomically correct
Just have the "station police" gently urge you to get some cloting on, and if you refuse repeatedly, they'd "ban" you from the station for a while. I like the whole "everything is possible, but it has consequences" thing. _ Char creation | Stacknerfs | Invention |CNVTF |
