Buy the G9, insert all the weight things, and smash yourself in the face with it for spending that much on a mouse.
Good thread title but totally irrelevant.

If you get a G7, do not get a green one ( original ) as they have a habit of double clicking reguardless of any settings in their later life. ___

I got a Habu RAZR mouse.
Looks good but you can't bind mouse clicks as part of a macro action, which makes it more or less worthless, at least for Eve. ----- My in Eve Profile |

Same here. I hate those new mouses (mice??) with their stupid weights and diverse crap just making them cost more money for something i dont want nor need.
Give me a new MX518 model ffs!!! A proper good quality optic/laser mouse, the same awesome ergonomics as most logitech mouses, a scrollwheel and 2 thumb buttons. THATS IT! I dont wanna spend more than $40 on a mouse, especially due to stupid "pro gamer" crap it has. I consider myself a pretty hardcore gamer, yet i never ever needed, or forsee that i need, to alter my mouse's weight in the grams or need on-the-fly adjustable sensitivity everytime i zoom in with a weapon etc. Stupid useless stuff :) Come on, how often have you heard "omgz!1 i lost my rifter cuz my mouse was 10 grams too heavy today!"

Had the same prob only 2 weeks ago.
G9 looks kinda nice but its a bit too short/small if you got larger hands (i almost think it was designed for women hands) and the gap between that replaceable grip and the buttons feels weird too.
MX Revolution wasnt bad but if you like to use the thumb buttons of a mouse this one sucks.
G5 aint bad but the plastic coating on top of the mouse has a really yucky feeling.
MX 1000 was my choice in the end. Good feeling to the hand and technical data is good enough for me.
Or if you are more into gaming than anything else check out the mouses made by Razer and Raptor. Those are really the best gaming mice around with high dpi rates and good
PS: I love the movie "The mouse that roared".

As a laptop user I wanted a wireless mouse, cause I always fck the cords on my wired ones....Razor Habu, whatever.
So I got a G7, and it's fcking awesomeness to the core. Fantastic response rates, FPS not an issue, the "back" button I use for PTT on TS, and the rechargeable batteries last for ages.
I was spending money replacing wired mice all the time, so spent a bit more to get it and save myself in the long run. |

what's wrong with the forward/back thumb buttons? I use those all the time. the thumb "wheel" is useless though, can't reach it from a normal grip unless you have huge hands.

For gaming G5 is better in my opinion. At least that what I got myself recently. It's not like you run around your house with your mouse while gaming to need wireless.

wireless is awesome because there's no cord to get caught on your speakers or fall off the edge of the desk and keep trying to pull the mouse with it
I have to use a wired mouse on a pull-out keyboard/mouse tray thing at work and it sucks because either the cord gets stuck on something and I can't move the mouse, or I pull out too much cord and it acts like a spring and keeps pushing the mouse toward me.

That's one strong mouse cord.

I use a mouse bungee for the cord, which works flawless (a piece of adhesive tape should do the trick as well...). I would like to get a wireless, but not as long as it means heavier weight and limited battery time.
High-end "gamer" mouses are usually marketed at FPS gamers, where precision and quick access to functions is far more important than in Eve, especially since Eve doesn't even use most extra buttons (I use mouse4 for voice activation, but that's it). So I suggest you don't buy in to the hype and just get a mouse that seems comfortable and fits your budget. I don't know about macros, that's not something I bother with.
Although I personally like Razer mice (currently using the DeathAdder), since I like their designs and the sensitive buttons. The Krait might actually be a decent mouse for Eve.

Great Mouse, on-the fly sensitivity and very durable and pretty cheap for a Razer Mouse.
As long as this Mouse works i will not even think about changing.

I love my Mx700. It's by far the best wireless mouse I've owned. A little bit taller than the Mx5* series, but the contours are almost exactly the same. The weight is perfect, and I have no problems with lagginess.
Best of it by far is the receiver/recharger combo. Never liked having to change batteries, or having a separate recharger, as it just takes up more space. And with a battery life of 4 days of solid use, if you remember to put it back on the charger when not in use, it'll never die on you in a critical moment. Oh, and the well over 6 ft range on the damn thing is pretty cool too.
Only problem I have with it is the buttons can be a bit light, allowing for mis-clicks. But that can be overlooked.
Ah, one more thing. Not really a problem, just an annoyance. The mouse does sit in the cradle just a bit loosely, so if it receives a jolt, it can loose contact and stop charging.

Logitech G-something had really crap battery life but MX Revolution can go 20+ hours before it starts complaining about low battery, and it'll be back to full charge after half an hour (maybe less)

They're just awesome like that. Customer for life too after I bought a store demo of a Wingman Extreme force feedback joystick where someone had swiped the power supply. Store geek told me it was easy to get a replacement. Well, he was full of it. No store could get just a power supply. So, I fired off an email to Logitech to try and buy one and they sent it straight from the damned factory, express delivery free of charge.
So yeah, OP: Buy Logitech. And yeah if you can get your hands on one, the mx518 really is that good for a no fancy extras mouse.

g5 ftw. It's corded, which means it's weight is truly adjustable and you don't have to worry about moving batteries around every time you move the mouse. It's fast and comfortable. I just wish it had a few more buttons for my thump to work, but overall, definitely win.

I bought my G9 and... well it's pure awesome. It feals good, works good and I have less than no problems with it.
You can change the skin on this mouse. Only thing I would change would be to have a larger skin for large hands like mine. Maybe they will sell it in a few months.

Razer diamondback. Programmable buttons, adjustable dpi, nice design (unlike Logitech's fugly pieces of rubbish) and can be used in the left or right hand (I use both) - TQ has encountered a database issue, we are sitting around wondering why it has crashed this time, waiting for 500,000 petitions and watching the forums fill up.

I still use my old Microsoft optical mouce. I find most modern mice either too heavy, or too loaded down with useless buttons. Where as the basic ms optical, is light, mechanically reliable and pefrectly sized. Its unfortunate that its getting tougher and tougher to find them nowadays. ---
