Ok so i'm not realy much of a mission runner, more a pvp'er and yes this is just an industrial alt! But having said that i used to do caldari missions in a raven. Just out of interest though, how are the gallente missions different? Do the rats tend to close in on you or stay at a distance, If your not going to use a raven, how do you deal with lvl4's for instance?
Unless they allow MWD's in all missions, i'd have thought using a blaster boat is really a nightmare to use? Of coarse there is drones but i have 11mill and counting hybred gunnery SP's and tbh i'd like to make use of them!

It is not much of a gallente/caldari mission problem but the enemies you get.
Generally speaking gallente, caldari, serpentis, guristas and some other enemy are easy targets with railboats as they are vulnerable to kinetic/thermic damage.
Angels (common gallente enemy in some region) are not so easy as the main vulnerability is explosive.
The raven advantage is that it is easily costumizable in damage/resists and it can use fof missiles when targetted by ECM/TD. In some istance you can be target damped to 3 km.
Blasterships aren't not consigliable as most missions don't allow MDW and all missions require a tank sustainable for long periods.

I see, so the enemy will still be scattered at random distances. I know missile boats will always be the best in missions which is understandable tbh, only although i can fly a raven and use cruise missiles ect, my skills in them are pants! 1/2 mill sp's in missiles and Caldari BS lvl3  I am a pure pvp char but you know how it is, sometimes there is no one to kill And i'd much rather get another 1mill sp'd in gunnery than train missiles.
I guess i'll have a go and see whats what

Try a Rokh in gallente/caldari missions and avoid the angels. I think you can go very well.
Good damage with the rail, no need for a range boost, good shield resist and available low for magnetic stabilizers. Against serpentis I am using a rail hyperion and after clearing the nearest spawns I have very little problems.
Your problems can be only the frigates, some have warp scramblers and if you don't have the drones to kill tme a railboat can have problems.
