My ship (Raven) recently got destroyed due to a disconnect from Eve whilst I was on a mission.
The disconnect was related to eve only, and not my internet connection.
When i logged back in I was flying around in a pod.
I put in a petition for reimbursement, but have never experienced this before.
Can I expect to get my ship back?

They'll take about 1 - 2 weeks to reply and unfortunately the answer will be no. Ships are only reimbursed if their logs show a problem on the server end, not the client end, and they never do. Even having fraps of desync when everyone knows it is happening is not enough proof for the GMs.

Almost happend to me yesterday.
Was mid fight in a mission when i got kicked from the server (hub full or something, 2nd in queue). When i finally got back inn i was down to 15% hull and mid warp. Just managed to get my armour up enough to survive the alligning for my warp out from the mayhem i landed in

No, you lost it due to lag/disconnects, thus it's not CCP's "fault" and thus you won't get it back. Actually you shouldn't really petition something like that, they are already swamped in petitions as it is.

I put in a petition for a myrmidon under similar circumstances.....it took 3-5 days (it was a while back) and I got a new myrmidon. I got the ship and about half the modules returned.
Be warned though - any insurance paid will be taken back. Don't spend all your insurance money until you know the outcome of the petition. You don't want a negative balance. If you've got lots of ISK, then it won't be an issue.

When was this? The same thing happened to me on a mission yesterday. I did not lose my Internet connection, but the client nevertheless froze solid on me. In fact, I could not close EVE at all and had to reboot the entire laptop. By the time it took me to log back on (that's another thing, since the last update, it takes me a full minute to log into EVE now), I was floating in a pod.
I petitioned CCP, but they've never lifted a finger to help in the past with these lockup issues (the only program on my hard drive that ever has these problems, btw). If my petition is denied, it'll be the last straw for me. I'm already looking at other MMOs. -- Meridius Dex --

Edited by: Trof on 20/11/2007 15:05:13 I lost a ship as well. CCP investigated and gave me back the ship minus the modules. As others indicated they will only return the ship if they can assoicate the loss with a server issue. So it is worth petitioning, might take some time however.

Well it all sounds hopeful. My view is that as my internet connection is always on with no problems at all, if I play Eve and Eve disconnects, then that's a problem with Eve, and so fairly it should be something that they can compensate for.
I suppose the only problem is is that it's open to abuse... but I'm sure they can see logs of what a character has been doing, and if a crappy little frigate destroys a battleship (as in my case) it should be obvious something went wrong.
Presuming that CCP can see that it's not a fraudulent case, they should reimburse the person. It is only fair.
We do pay our subscription to be entertained, and wasting time due to faults with the server etc. is not entertaining

While many so NO, they did give mine back when I warped into a mission and lagged out due to 24 npc's and they literally insta popped me.

Edited by: Dirk Magnum on 20/11/2007 17:17:50 One day during the worst phase of the RMR bookmarking lagfest my mining barge warped on autopilot not to a stargate but an asteroid field, where it was of course destroyed while I was AFK. After like three weeks they reimbursed me with a new shuttle to replace the one in the cargo hold, but since the barge wasn't insured I didn't have enough ISK in my wallet for a new one.
Now, to simplify: they interpreted my petition for a new ship as "take the full price of the ship out of my wallet and put a new ship in my hangar even though this accomplishes nothing different than if I were to just buy a new barge on the open market."
At least petition got answered

Happened to me in a lvl 4 mission with a corp m8 of mine. Warped in had some aggro, I would have been fine but since i couldnt turn my guns on, nor my armor tank, I sat back and watched my ship get popped. To top it off i couldnt even warp my pod out and it was damaged in the process. Eve client quit responding and i had to crtl-alt-del and close Eve.
I did get the message displayed please wait for this module to activate as i franticly tried to get my ship to fight back.
Same thing about happened to my corp m8 later in that mission, due to his passive shield tank and being 100km away he was able to save his ship though.
I petitioned and got the response we found no problems and havent heard of Lag in your area. Sorry we cannot give you your ship back. (Mission was 1 jump out of Motsu)
They ticked me off so be prepared for the worst

Well they said "sorry not our fault for my Raven"... which was a bit of a bummer.
So I used my only other ship, which is a faction fitted Navy Raven, worth over 2billion with all the stuff... and the same god damn thing happened again...
It wouldn't let me warp out of a mission, or fire my missiles or anything... and so basically I got pawned.
This time it didn't disconnect, but just lagged for around 2-3 minutes. The second my ship blew up though, my pod warped to the place I was trying to get to.
I'm really tired of this. Almost a year's worth of accumulating stuff down the drain due to their crappy servers. I put in another petition but I'm sure they'll tell me sorry.
So it seems like I'll quit the game.

Yeah, my occurrence is that the game now freezes on missions only. Not in PvP, not traveling, not ratting, nowhere but during missions EVE crashes - freezing the entire computer to where I have to hard reboot everything. This is the only prog that does this.
I too was told to screw off by support regarding my lost ship. They also ignored my request for assistance in solving the crashing problem. Crappy, buggy client, crappy substandard customer service. Welcome to EVE!
This is my first MMO, but if it's any indicator of the industry as a whole, it will be my last. At least console gaming is reliable. Try putting out a game that regularly freezes up and costs you your saved character or all it's possessions on the Xbox and see how far you get. -- Meridius Dex --

You can blame the game or you can blame yourself. Servers can be crappy and lag and you can lose a ship because of it but you have to question the decision to take a 2 billion ISK ship out after you had lost one already. Perhaps you should have fitted a less expensive ship and tested things out first.
Also, try a different direction in the game. I joined a 0.0 alliance on my main and have made easily over 2 billion ISK without really even playing that hard. Grinding missions over and over can earn ISK but it isn't always the most fun option. If you love it then keep doing it, but if that loss makes you dread grinding more missions to earn back the ISK then consider a different career path in the game.
ISK making isn't what keeps the game fun for me really. I could have made a lot more ISK if I had purely grinded for more in 0.0, but it wasn't that fun. So I made enough to keep doing what I enjoyed. Something to keep in mind when playing any MMO, as ISK or level or whatever doesn't always make for a fun experience.

Edited by: Anisha Belarian on 26/11/2007 00:41:10 I lost a ship once due to a similiar freeze. Warping in to the mission site, the game suddenly froze and didn't respond to anything for ~5 minutes. When it responded again, I found my pod hovering in space My petition was successful however and I got the ship replaced (it was "only" a Stabber, but at that time quite an investment for me) - happy happy joy. I think, the best way is to not expect the ship to be reimbursed, so if it does it is a bonus. I have seen a strict "no refunds whatsoever" policy in other games, so I wa positively surprised that one can even petition for reimbursement in EvE.
Now, on to the lag problematic... - these freezes seem to be ebcountered by other players, too - so I beleive it is not a problem of my (admittedly rather slow) system alone. I even get a 3-5 minute freeze on stations sometimes when I want to open the market. Turning down effects or resolution doesn't help. But I'm still unsure whether the problem lies with my system or with the connection or with lag in general. Is this a problem one has to live with or are there ways around?

Dude, you forgot rule #1 of playing EVE: Never ever fly anything you can not afford to replace. Ever. Seriously!
That is the one and only reason you lost a year's worth of saving. You don't save for a ship unless you consider it a luxury. You fly something you can replace out of pocketchange, or can save up for within a week of flying a lower grade ship, or can pay with an hour or two of ratting/mining with your noobship.

I think you encountered agro lag. Try turning off animations. Unfortunately i forgot where you can tweak these details but there is a place where you can turn things like turret animations off. I did and i haven't had an agro freeze since. In fact i only briefly freeze now if i warp into a swarm of ships (like a gate that's being used for suicide ganking).

I know in hind-sight it was stupid, but I wanted to finish the mission off quickly that I started with my first ship before it timed out... I just thought I'd had bad luck before, and could finish a mission and move on and get another "expendable" ship.
I don't it's wrong to expect a game to work, or expect a server not to lag, or expect customer service to want to keep their customer's happy.
Basically everyone's advice is don't trust EVE, which is quite sad

Edited by: Duncan Bannatyne on 26/11/2007 15:07:28 You'll probably get it back if you were NPCing.
However dont petition a loss that happens due to desync or disconnect whilst PVPing, you wont get it back.
GMs seem to have a "if its lost PVPing, its not a reimbursement case" (Coming from a disgruntled customer whos lost quite a few ships whilst PVPing (due to IG errors/problems/desync/lag) and never had one returned).
Carebearing tho, its A-OK. Duncan Bannatyne
