Strikes me as a Battle Isle clone.
Darkspace was originally a Battle Isle game...

It did indeed look as if nobody played it. The Battle Dawn game looks to have tons of players.

That's not one of ours, EVE is our first foray into the computer gaming market. As one of the posters in this thread pointed out, an early CCP product was a game called Haettuspil, a game I have been lead to believe is an Icelandic version of Life that sold to nearly 10% of Icelandic households. This game helped provide the early funding for EVE.

Ok, that's interesting. I've been wondering a few times already, how CCP got the money to work for years on something big like EVE without out being funded by some big publisher and without having a name already in the industry.

It adapted to the Icelandic setting by providing a near 98% chance of your character stumbling into drug addiction or alcoholism at some point. ---- All roads lead to Catch |

If you people want the EVE history with some screenshots of old and a somewhat detailed description, go watch Hilmars lecture from Fanfest, I believe its a third day lecture and it is merely called "The History of EVE" or "EVE history" or something, its quite interesting.

Meh, The Hedgehog's Revenge was the only board game worth playing, just remember to position yourself opposite the one who... well, you get the idea. There are dares, often involving 'the player opposite' ----- "Why can't you just be friends?" -- Oveur |

The single most borrowed from game in EVE Online is this really old BBS game from the late 80's early 90's:
Tradewars
You can still play it on the net in a few places. After about 30 minutes of playing it, you'll turn to your corp mates and say "This is EVE online, except without graphics".
The similarities are simply too much to be a coincidence.

An EVE board game is one of the products under discussion for production as a result of last year's merger with White Wolf.
