Edited by: Valentina Gallatoire on 21/11/2007 03:31:08 Actually people are not symmetrical. Indeed, according to a University of Regensberg study, facial symmetry is at best a weak indicator of attractiveness.

Almost all gallente and amarr ships are symmetrical (good examples are the megathron and the nyx), most of the shuttles, and even some caldari ships, such as the drake, the merlin, the rokh, the caracal, the chimera, the phoenix etc. Sure, some of them are not 100% symmetrical, but it's only if you look very close (for example the ferox has one jet power-unit more on the left side than on the right, but still looks quite symmetrical compared to the sansha battelship).
@Valentina Gallatoire: of course humans are symmetrical, they have 2 eyes, 2 hands 2 legs etc. It's a biological being, you can't demand that every square millimeter of one side of the body is identical with the counterpart of the other side - it's naturally symmetrical and your article backs up, that symmetry has an impact on beauty. At least a human would be seen as ugly, if he were extremely unsymmetrical, so to get that analogy back to ships, a little deviation here and there is ok, that does not make something being ugly, but if it's absolutely unsymmetrical, like the new raven, it looks ugly to the human eye.
I don't ask for perfect symmetry but that new raven is way too unsymmetrical, it hurts the eye a bit. Almost like that sansha ships, which probably are intentional made ugly.

I would think it to be a large observation deck...

Well I didn't mean that all of them were, just that there is a lot of variation and we don't have to be another generic sci-fi game with only ships that look like jet fighters.
Personally I don't find the Raven nasty to look at. Theres no point in making blanket comments like 'it looks ugly to the human eye', because it dosn't fit into your idea of what a spaceship should look like. _

Dazzling new textures on a hideous and lazy design. Proof that you can't polish a turd. _________________________________________________________

Looks just as angular and asymetrical as before, except with better textures. i like it :)

I prefer symmetrical ships by far.
A few designs look alright with the appendixes or random "hair" sticking out.
Granted, building a ship asymmetrical has little or no difference when it comes to moving around in space, since there is no need for an aerodynamic frame to counter wind resistance and such.
Still, I always like it best when my ship looks like it actually had some design behind it and not just random blocks and modules puzzled together the day after a bachelor party.

I find it better than the old one, I also noticed the "shuttle"*****pit, but in general its an improvement.
I still havent gotten used to the unsymetrical shape myself of the Raven, but thats not important, whats important is that it has the best stats for a PVE ship, and to take a hit on the ugly side is well deserved beeing that good a mission ship.
We cant have it both ways... then everyone wanna get one, and thats a scenario I dont wanna play in... its way too many Raven`s parked in Motsu already.. I`ll try to push my Tempest trough the heap of Raven`s now ... ciao!

beauty is in the eyes of the beholder, there's no absolute scale to measure whether something looks good or not, so arguing about this is pointless.

The drone boats are. The blaster boats and other variants all have minor to obvious asymmetrical features. So I wouldn't call it 'almost all'.
