After back reading some posts it seems low sec sentry guns where buffed up and I'm thinking that the buffed guns are partly to blame for low sec being empty.
The sentry gun buff has not stopped gate camps and imo made gate camping worse because you need a BC/BS to tank the sentry's but with sensor boosters the lock times are not much longer. So when someone lands in a gate camp they are going to land in the middle of a hell death swarm of pirate battleships who are remote repping each other and one or two of them sensor boosted and nothing except a similar sized gang or specialist ship (Recons, intys cov ops etc) stand much of a chance.
If the guns where removed or not as powerful it may change and you could land into a frigate/cruiser camp, and people may stand a better chance of getting back to the gate or even winning a fight with the help of the sentry's.
It would be interesting to hear players insights from when sentry's where weaker than they are currently. Cloaks!! |

Yes - this is the reason why low-sec is so empty. And may I ask, have you been ganked in low-sec recently?
By a gate camp?
I have a sneaking suspicion that you have. _____________________________ Eldo spanked my sig but I can't be bothered changing it just now. |

Remove sentries? hey thats 0.0!
No seriously, low-sec is so empty because people are afraid to lose there ships these days. It's safer in 0.0. Duncan Bannatyne

I have trouble envisioning the current gate campers downgrading their ships from BC and BS classes just because the sentries are weaker. Instead they will continue to operate as they have been with even less threat from the sentries AND new gate campers in cruisers and such will join in the fun.
I would prefer an escalating response in low sec so that gate camps can't tank the sentries indefinitely. But meh, not my biggest concern at the end of the day.

Let me get this straight. You want to make gate sentries weaker so anyone stumbling into a gate camp has a better chance to kill the pirates...
Assuming that pirates won't bring heavy ships anyway is idiotic. It's like saying POS wars won't exceed 50 vs 50 because you can kill a POS with 50 guys. ------------------------------------------

What I'm saying is that a gate camp must consist of ships able to tank the sentry's so every gate camp is a large blob of heavily tanked ships, with sensor boosters the difference in lock times is negligible and as the sentry's can be tanked permanently they are not working to discourage camps anyway.
If the guns where not as powerful we may see smaller camps or camps of smaller ships, gate camping cant get worse than it is now because a a camp of cruisers and BS will kill anyone unprepared just as much as a camp of all BSs. Cloaks!! |

Edited by: Laura Steel on 23/11/2007 16:44:48 If they have been using BC/BBs to camp gates for a while, I doubt they will change just because the sentries are removed. IF anything they will fit more gank and less tank. ----

The trouble with PvP in low sec (and anywhere else I guess) is that gates (and stations) are the most likely place to run into other players as they are bottlenecks, unfortunately those bottlenecks are also behind a forced session change... Gate camping sucks, for both sides, but catching someone in a belt is rare.

Why bother going into low-sec at all, 0.0 has better ore for all the industrialists, better rats for all the ratters and mission running in low-sec is never done. Something needs to be changed about low-sec as it is currently very empty. The ore there usually sucks although the fiels are gigantic since no-one mines them.
People are simply too afraid (myself included) of losing their ships without any CONCORD or corp/alliance to try and save them or protect them.
Add the fact that low-sec is a no-mans land that can't be claimed or protected it results in what we have now...empty space
After all, why go into low-sec and try to 'claim' that when any pirate can simply dock on a station there and the ore and rats are simply less good.
Low-sec should either be made into 0.0 or high-sec...

no not necessarley there could be just one ship and most likely a MOM
the snetries make it a prolem for the campers but they adapt and so should you if anything it gives you a slightly better chance since they have to fit a spider tank or what not to survive the guns so thery have either less weapons and such to kill you with
stop talking nonsence you foon

An excellent suggestion, as it's "low sec" and not "no sec." If the legal means present (i.e. the sentry guns) are locked in a continuous engagement with "bad guys" to no avail, then they should summon reinforcements.
I find it ludicrous when a nearly permanent gate camp is setup in a 0.4 system, next to a 0.5 system. They sit there, nearly 24/7, tanking the Sentry Guns while Concord blissfully whistles away on the other side of the gate.
There should be a timer or some mechanism such that if they remain there, flagged as illegal, reinforcements eventually show up.
