So, we're on the verge of a pretty hefty (and i have to say very shiny) looking graphical update. But looking beyond that, what would you like to see cosmetically in the future? Obviously when the ambulation update hits its going to make a big differnce to how we see the game. But other than just making ships more highly textured, or increasing polygon counts, what do you think would make eve better?
I for one would like to see a focus on really giving the game some scale (we've all seen the size of the zealot in the ambulation demo video) It would be really nice to have some little touches in there to make the game seem that much bigger. Being able to zoom further in on your ships, for example, or having the little lights on the ships turn off and on occasionally (from people walking in/out of rooms) or even shadows of people on the windows as they walk around the ship.
Would also be nice to see some new and more varied nebulae backgrounds in systems, instead of the standard 'massive ring of cloud' backgrounds that are mostly used at the moment.

You zoom in on stuff already: hold both mouse buttons together and move your mouse forward. You'll zoom in closer on whatever you want to look at.
And the sense of scale is relative to the ship you are flying. If I'm in a frigate and I am next to a dreadnaught, it'll be just that much easier to grasp the size of the thing. Conversely, if I fly a dreadnaught, pretty much all ships next to me will seem like puny little ants.
The nebulas will also get an update, but they won't be bundled along with the first Trinity patch content.

I'd like to see better/more detailed turret models and animation/effects, but I guess that's coming after trinity anyway.

I don't think the scale is really all that accurate between the different ship classes. Sure, a frig looks smaller compared to a dread, but I'd expect it to be even smaller (or rather, the dreads be bigger). I mean, when I park my hyperion next to my phoenix, the phoenix isn't all that much bigger than the hyperion

I'd love to see shields flare up and chunks of armor blown away when hit.

Well, the shields would react still. Before failing, and chunks of Amarr...erm...armor flying all about the place.
Everything "fluffy" and fancy would be nice future graphics.
Especially ambulation opens a whole new can of graphically correctable worms.

but how often do real energy fields visibally flare? The only example of a real energy field flaring into the visible spectrum is the norther lights, and that requires a field as powerful as the earths, being hit by the suns beam weapons

Im happy that EVE is getting a face lift. This is all really cool and I certainly believe that game needs a new code.
My only problem is *HOW MUCH DO YOU ADD?* before you really change the game.
Lets remember PVP people, lag will be issue with more texture. Also fragments from ships; means more code information to add to lag =/
Another
HOW many people have SUPER COMPUTER?
EVE-ONLINE Promotion "Power of two" does this also change?
Lets face it: We are asking for entire new game

For me, the only thing I have noticed that makes the game seem small is the ship turrets.
Think about it for a second. In all other scifi, Star Wars, Star Trek, Andromeda, Firefly, BSG, so many others, the gun turrets on ships our size are pretty darn small. In EVE, they are HUGE by comparison.
Everytime I see it I forget I am in a big ship. If CCP would make the guns a LOT smaller, the ships would feel much much bigger.
My two ISK.

Sure, let's go back to text based graphics, they wont lag.
Just turn them off if your pc can't handle them, why does everybody have to wait for you to upgrade your pc.
