I need a pair of PC headphones that:
a) Is durable enough, especially the cord, to last quite a while. Durability is preferred to comfort. b) Has pretty good sound quality. Doesn't have to be great--I'm not going to use this on any top-end sound card--but it has to have proper frequency response, especially for bass. And I don't mean those 20hz-20khz 15 dollar Best Buy headphones that "have frequency response at 20hz" but you can't hear a damn thing down there anyways. c) Is under 75 dollars or so; the cheaper the better. d) I can order online in the US.

I thought you didn't come round these parts no more?
I use either PHillips SHN2500 noise canceling Headphones (Which I think are actually pretty great except for needing batteries) or some Sennheiser thingies, oddly the ones I have aren't on the sennheiser website.. I only got them recently, weird.
Edit - obviously, the SHN2500 are no good to you though, sorry.

Get some Bang & Olufsen regular socket headphones the ultimate bass ones that fit snug to the ear, they block out all sound and you hear sound better than as if you were in an acoustically perfect sound chamber. You will then need a cheap adapter to convert the regular socket to PC input.
They cost 39.99 you will need to get a nice small mic that clips to your shirt close to the neck - for comfort.
Sure beats the hell out of having headset hanging off your head. And you will not beat the sound quality.

I can recommend the a-forementioned Sennheiser's too. I am no expert but I was pleasently surprised with the sound quality - far superior to my $20 Radioshack Jobs. Some people complain that the mic is too quiet, but a little tweaking seems to sort it out :)

Senhiser HD212 pro. I have a pair of these that have lasted more than 3 years, 2 of thoes with very heavy daily use.
I did manage to break the cord once buy cutting it in a zipper. A replacement cord is avilable from senhiser for a few bucks and takes about 10 seconds to install. _______________________________ Pleese exucse any seplling erorr's in tihs psot |

ú35.00 good headphones
I needed a new set of headphones and decided to buy these on impulse. I lucked out because they are incredibly comfortable, The mic is excellent, The cable length is comfortably long. They are foldable and it comes with its own carry case.
Oh yeah and the sound quality is pretty good.

I use Senn hd437
Very good bass for the price, comfy to wear although they are on-ear, not over-ear. Characteristically excellent Senn sound with excellent spl/watt (so great for soundcards with poor/no amp-on-board).
No mic, and a stupidly long cord (long cord is looonng), though it has a huge and ugly winder included:) Pretty sure you would rip off the cord if you snagged your foot on it while going to the kitchen.
However, Senn's have been my headset of choice for 10+ years. They're excellent sounding and don't hurt the ears (physically or aurally) after long listening sessions. __________________________________________________

Edited by: SoftRevolution on 24/11/2007 12:07:42 I was never that impressed with my Speedlinks for non-surround sound use.
They are comfortable and surround sound is a tangible advantage for FPS gaming and it's neat for movies but the 2-channel sound quality (i.e. listening to music) never felt like it was what it should be.
Mind you, I think I paid a fair bit more than thirty five quid for my pair so maybe that's a good price. I'd compare them to the Zalman's if you want 5.1 though :/ EVE RELATED CONTENT |

I have the Sennheiser HD212pro too. Cheap and durable. Has a slight focus on bass. I like 'm. ---

Addmitedly, I got these when they were going for ~$80 (invoice shows $83 w/ shipping), but they are godly. Not just kind of godly either. These things have little captured angels in each speaker, singing just for you. I know that sounds over the top, but words cannot describe how good these sound.
The cord is quite long and very thick, and they have extremely solid construction. Once adjusted and broken in a bit, they're also extremely comfortable, and have something like 32db of passive noise cancellation from all the insulation. Thats not just marketing, you blot out the world with them.
The only caveat I have is that my integrated sound card at full max volume can't max out the headphones. While you don't really need to do that, if you want it super loud you'll need an amp. Or at least a non integrated card.

I'm trying to decide between these and these.... one has the benefit of closed-ear headphones, but the other has a much more balanced frequency range... ugh, so hard to decide.

Plantronics have a couple of nice headsets
I use a Plantronics Audio 330 and I love it - it's VERY light, comfortable wearing for hours and provides very good sound quality. The cord is also quite long and is yet to show any signs of damage. Much more comfortable than the 'Premium Logitech headset' I had before it. I'm almost glad my cat ate that
I'm not sure where you'd find that one in the US though -----
