Now that it seems clear EveTV is dead except for the occasional 'special', I would like to put forth the following assertion: CCP should fund the revitalization of EveTV in the coming year. Also, EveTV should retain their current format. Namely, weekly shows with extra shows reflecting extra-special events.
Further, EveTV should remain essentially as is was. That is, same hosts, same production crew, and the same sets. It seems a good format and was just achieving 'maturity' when MMM had to cancel for a dearth of revenue.
EvETV had just hit its stride. They had successfully shrugged off the earlier valid complaints about production value, presentation quality and relevance. Instead, EveTV has, as of the last 6 episodes, evolved into a fan driven but professionally presented Eve-related show that I think and believe can continue to evolve into an excellent representation of what Eve is in general. Namely, a niche product that nonetheless presents the views of many potential subscribers and provides seriously entertaining segments for existing Eve players.
Obviously, EveTV needs to advertise itself more for the players (I have to take several steps to get EveTV whenever I want to view it, despite knowing that it exists... it needs a direct link, tbh) and it also needs to partially support itself via ad revenue that actually displays for all viewers of EveTV (I have never seen an ad myself, though I'm told they exist... that must be ironed out for ALL users, just as network TV ensures all viewers are exposed to the revenue stream). Also, a Paypal button would also be a possibility to keep a free show in the 'black'. Many people DO donate if given the chance.
CCP, if EveTV is properly advertised with appropriate revenue garnering advertisements and with a ton of EveTV links paired with most mentions of Eve-Online, it would would go a long way towards not just paying for EveTV but also promoting Eve Online. The EveTV hosts and features provide 'hooks' and 'characters' for people to form positive opinions about Eve Online. That can only be good in attracting new subscibers or retaining older subscribers in Eve.
EveTV provides another avenue of providing Eve Online to generate revenue.
I strongly encourage you to directly fund EveTV now and in the future. It's good for Eve. Save EveTV [url"http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=643554"]Sign to make CCP Fund EveTV[/url] |

I agree that EVE TV has become a well run, informative show which I look forward to each week. They have a dynamic team who work well together and as such, should be retained.
I've learnt alot about EVE from this show, and I use it as my main source of keeping up with EVE current events.
But most importantly, EVE TV helps to get you immersed in the game. I found the show aids in making EVE feel like another reality, or another world, rather than just somewhere we can go after work to relax. Isn't that what CCP wants?

The problem with evetv being funded by ccp is that they might not then have as much freedom as they do being independent. I don't want evetv to be about selling eve or to just be a marketing tool. I think a big reason it's so good is that that's not what it is.

yah I saw that coming, and tbh... CCP is vulgar and rancid... far more than EveTV has ever been (other than their 'credits'... even there, CCP is far more obscene). Further, Eve-o Forums are much more abusive to CCP than EveTv has ever been. If CCP funds the show, I sorta doubt it would be more inflammatory than it already is. They can always insure limits that are already upheld.
So, I don't think freedom is an issue :)

EveTV was a big factor for a few of my friends coming to the game. It set the game apart from others like WOW, and gave the impression that Online games could be about more then half naked dancing cartoons, and 12 year olds screaming over voice coms. I enjoyed the show, and paid for it when it was on Jalipo. Its very interesting to me how much player driven content there is for this game, Out of game tools, Everadio, pod casts, our own webcomic, an Eve magazine, and EveTV.

EVE Tv was a good show, and it kept people upto date with the latest politcal news, without having to wade through the crap that is CAOD.
As most have said, EveTv was just starting to mature, and become a cohesive format. Possibly they could have had live links to other players in the world, or even recorded interviews with the likes of Seleene, and Sir Molle, possibly arranged to cover 'War zones' and got fraps from a few engagements.
I already miss StevieSG's singing after the credits
Good luck to all those that made EVE Tv what it was.

oh, and I actually petitioned CCP's Marketing division with this:
"Hi there, I believe this to be an appropriate area for my petiton, despite its seemingly tangential subject heading. Further, it will at least be viewed by someone.
My petition concerns CCPs visibility and promotion of the game.
I have watched EveTV since it went free and imo it serves as an excellent 'draw' for new and old players alike. Further, it could with a small amount of advertising and promotion effort by CCP, be a draw for unresolved trial players that are still undecided.
Frankly, the 'hard' work has already been done by MMM; the sets, the hosts, the informal atmosphere paired with a quasi-professional presentation. Further, the topics, even when they are potentially inflammatory, are still handled with humour and a minimum of bias.
In short, EveTV has a good team that represents Eve well, adds excellent flavour and succeeds in being humorous and informative at the same time. A major benefit in my eyes, to be honest.
Guys, you need to buy the rights to EveTV and produce it. Then advertise the crap out of it.. the benefits will not only be retention of players, but (supposing you disseminate the product well enough), a big draw for new payers from the major websites like Warcry etc.
Present a HUMAN face in Eve and players will give you the benefit of the doubt when they encounter the tutorial or try to pilot a cruiser after 2 weeks...
Come on... a 'small' investment into EveTV (it can't be THAT expensive) makes for a bigger and better Eve..."
Perhaps you guys should think of similar methods if you feel as strongly as I do?

Thanks for the hesitant bump, MasterDecoy :)
I don't think purchasing credits = passion for a product (or at least is the only reliable way of measuring interest). An ad-driven but 'free' model works for broadcast tv... I think it would work for EveTV too... (or at least partially offset production costs).
Thanks for the nudge nonetheless.

So please CCP, buy up evetv and you can make new banner adverts out of the show which would be pretty sweet

I loved the news it showed, many of the interviews were quite intresting and most of all i loved the ship reviews. If running cost are a big problem...may be look into: -one show every two weeks (rather not but better then non at all) -Commercials during eveTV for alliances and stuff paid in isk (like in eon)
then again i have no idea how this is all funded anyway...so this might just be a silly idea...

of course credits does not equal passion, but they do make sure that eve-tv stays instead of getting in a situation such as now.
and the ad model (that's the one they were using) apparently failed

However, I would not like CCP to have any creative control over the show. EveTV is great because its made by people who care about the game and its community from more than a marketing perspective. I strongly believe any funding that CCP provides should be without strings attached. EveTV is simply good for EVE's community, and keeping it alive in its current form would simply show that CCP is more interested in creating a vibrant community than a pile a cash.
Honestly, I would rather see EveTV dead than to have it become CCPTV. If CCP decides to keep EveTV alive with any sort of funding they should be very careful in how they provide it.

It was a separate entity, Its implementation was a bit shoddy at first, It then became unprofessional in parts, It did not serve a purpose as a marketing tool at all, Some of the people involved were paid.
Now, not to speculate on how much people were paid, but if ccp had the choice of keeping Eve TV running in its current form, or hiring 1 or 2 extra people to improve the game, I would fully expect them to do the latter.
Perhaps in another form Eve TV could work in a way which would allow ccp to spend money on it and feel they were getting tangible rewards from it then I would expect they will look at it again in the future.
Without being rude, at times it felt like egoÆs were being stroked and fun was being had, but at the end of the day, ccp donÆt run a comedy broadcasting company, nor do they want to effectively waste money on something that will not and does not have an impact on their business or consumers.
This is coming from someone who watched from the start and paid to do so, in fact, I still have money on my Jalipo account.

Really enjoyed the show and looked forward to watching it every Saturday morning. I gladly paid to watch it via Jalipo, and I'd gladly pay to watch it again. Am very sad to see the weekly show go, as it was truly something unique and special. To me, as a relatively new player (less than a year), it made EvE feel so much more "alive". I can't help but feel CCP may well be missing the boat on this one.

eve needs this,, it needs the possitive image,, and it needs the " real " feel of regular fans supporting the game,, pity that it all came down to isk,, the real life version, yeah i'd pay,, and if you want to see a true reaction,, release the content of the shows to utube or similar,, i bet you'd get more accounts and not just alt driven ones,, show Blizzard what it means to support your playerbase

As a new player, watching EvE TV helped me understand the game in many ways. From news; interviews, market analysis, ship bios, to the tournament matches. I was impressed that CCP had the savvy to host a show about the game, I feel it was a great idea. To me, the campy under produced feel with ships flying by was pure genius. (Big Fun.) Is there no one in CCP that see the marketing potential in EvE TV? I think the show was no where near its potential and I was wondering when CCP would put some real money behind it. If they really let EvE TV go IÆll be shocked. (/me scratches head)

IMO they should bring it back, but change its format so its presented on a sofa rather than news reporter style. Less formal is good, look at the popularity of podcasts like Diggnation.
The best parts of eve tv were usually the chats they had with guests and the end bit where they were messing about. More comedy, less formality.

So you started out with an idea, you got funding, you made the game. At fan fest you said that you had to listen to your customers. OK so there is a cost of running the show. You have had an idea, think how it could be funded to up your profile and then deliver the show.
You seem to have a good team of people, one of you must be able to come up with a plan and turn Eve TV into a revenue stream. I did pay ú20 to whatch and then it went free on the next show. Poo happens as they say.
Come on chaps, this is a good idea lets not let it die. Even though they never answered my emails to do things on the show that i wanted to see with me sending isk as a reward. Bring the show back.
Stay on the cutting edge and cut the annual corp outing to fund the project and keep eve tv.

CCP has no idea how special EVE-TV is, and how it made EVE-Online special compared to all the other MMO's out there.
Normally I dont have the time to blog about certain stuff (cept for big stuff like Trinity), but in this case I made time away from my very busy RL schedule to blog about my thoughts about this turn of events.
Odd Pod Out is my blog
I hope that CCP turn around this decision and give us more EVE-TV. I'll be a sad sad day if EVE just loses its special luster because of EVE-TV.

EvE-TV was one of the things that really set this game apart from other games for me... I looked forward to the new show EVERY week.
EvE is online (the actual game) - in print (EON) - and on "TV" (EvE-TV) - it provided so many inlets for immersion - something no other mmo offers.
Please take the show off the ice and find a way to fund it weekly again. If it needs a big "Donate" button - so be it!

I for one, found the show incredibly entertaining and informative, the show was actually taking on a style of itÆs own, that was both funny and to the point watching the weekly reviews on the ships was also an excellent spot on the show, the staff was brilliant!!.
CCP needs to really rethink this, the show presented a look and feel for the community and set another milestone, In the first to MMO in history to present such a thing as a weekly show regarding game and the community of eve and itÆs ever changing evolution.
I watched the show every week, and each week the program was getting better and better, I would actually alt-tab out from game while mining to watch the show.
EVE has a very large fan base and I believe that the program is good instrument for New players to learn about the inner workings of the Eve community far greater than the forums ever can, because it puts a real human face to the Game, you get to see and hear some of the infamous players in the game, putting a face to the name that haunts your Corp.
It would be a real shame for CCP that has been steadily moving in the right Direction and working as hard as you have, to start walking back wards over your on progress.

actually you're wrong, the gameplay sets eve apart--the rest is superfluous, card games, art books, etc are only for the most rabid fans. I've said this time and again, why in the world would anyone pay for such limp "content" when you could actually be playing the damn game? Similarly hearing someone talk about alliance politics is one thing, the reality of participating and enjoying the belated lag and ganks is untranslateable.
The quality of the show was pretty bad as well, you know you have a problem when Suas improvised demeanor is more composed and your shows credit reel are highlights that something is substantively, and unironically, wrong. On that note weren't there a handful of young people designed to pimp the thing--in the end it was down to who? Stevie and regular spiral? Perhaps spiral plays regularly but do the rest? I doubt it. That in itself is telling--kudos go to Loxy and Xyliana's resume and whoever else can turn this into an enterprising opportunity or legitimate professional fodder. Keep them laughing til the end.
Indeed, the collective stupidity on display here is exactly why it was canceled--80% of you can't even string words into sentences much less say something beyond "/signed," effectively spamming a thread you're trying to support. brilliant gentlemen--your emphasis on quantity over quality is perfectly* in line with CCPs thinking. this was a failed commercial experiment, get over it.

I would like to see it fiddled with and returned to our browser. I honestly couldn't care about the fittings of a Wyvern (or a. n. other cap ship), being of the fluffy variety some of the earlier shows having marketing/stock tips appealed to me as did the news from around the universe... I'm in empire, it was good to know what the alliances were up to in general fuzzy terms.
I hate to say it but yes, in terms of marketing potential it's a fair draw for new players; I don't think other MMO's have anything like EVE-TV so it makes the game stand out. I have zero idea how it would work but I suppose if CCP were to start funding it wholesale then in show adverts from corps/alliances? Dunno, on that one.

I was down the pub with some friends being teased about going to Iceland for fanfest, and I joked for them to tune in to eve-tv and see what its all about and try to spot me.
As it happened I was lucky enough to be interviewed and a few of my friends saw it, and told others. Some of them then went back to watch older episodes, and thought it looked fun, as a result EvE got 6 new subscriptions over a 2 week period, people who are now playing the game and enjoying it. Some of which left other MMO's to budget for Eve.
It wouldn't have happened without Eve-Tv and i'm thankful for it helping me get some mates away from world of borecraft and to a true persistant world MMO...
Now I have more people to share my passion with.

Although I miss EVE TV for what its worth, I can't really say I enjoyed the quality much. I'm sorry to say it, but lets face it, the presenting was passable at best, but mostly amateurish, although admittedly somewhat funny in all its kookyness. The studio decorations looked cheap and cheesy. Just generally bad 'production value'.
I can certainly understand why CCP didn't want to pay for it. It worked good as a pilot project, but if you are serious about putting on an official show, there has to be better production values and with that in mind, I don't think the team that was in place, really had what it took to put on a quality show.
So whats the future for EVE TV? Well it would probably work ok as a youtube show, if someone felt like producing it for free. For CCP as a company, you can't fault them for looking at the bottom line. The show wasn't good enough for them to want to keep paying for it. The kind of show that they would want to pay for would be so expensive to make, that if you keep the small audience in mind, its just hard to see it how it would be a viable thing to do.
Now where did I put that asbesthos hazmat suit..

Why not show the same faith in EveTV that the guys who helped you get EVE upto speed showed you all those years ago?

Eve TV is definatly a requirement in the world of eve ...
CCP they were doing you a big favor by existing ...plz pay your share for the show..as you should put in something towards the advertising for your game they have done ...CCP would benifit emensly from paying these people to run the show..
its beneficial and it seems to be a fore runner in mmorpg game shows... even sky is getting in on the action and begining to host shows all about mmorpgs...i noticed there was NO mention of eve on these shows... but guess who was getting all the air time ? World of warcraft and a few others too ...
Basically ... you need EVE TV to reprisent eve -online ..in these shows and for our own show each week.. Keep your players interested and online..
CCP DONT MISS YOUR OPPERTUNITY TO CASH IN ON A FANTASTIC IDEA >>>BEFORE SOMEONE RIPS IT OFF AND YOU GET NOTHING>>>
spiral n stevie looked like they worked hard to present a good show ..(along with the crew)
And they made it possible to keep up with the larger picture of eve ... they gave out good advice and were funny.. Tourney is also mandetory watching in my house
PLZ PLZ PLZ PLZ CCP poney up the loot b4 some pirate comes and pops your bubble... and your left with nothing but an empty wreak from a fine ship.

Meeting the team at a meet in london (albeit drunkenly!) and from the shows i saw, i really quite liked it and i think that it adds decent value added to the game. Its something that makes the game stand out and it really does give a lot of good information about what is going on to those that don't want to trawl through forums of threads or who aren't sitting with their finger on the diplomatic pulse all the time.
I the added value offsets the need for EVE-TV to be a profit driven setup and as such i think that subsidy from CCP would be a good idea.
I disagreed with the pay-to-view model but i still bought jalipo credits to watch because i felt the endeavour deserved support. I personally would be happier donating directly and not having a p2v setup however.
in short, moar eve-tv!

wondered what happened but meh CCP cant see the long term advertising and just wanna save some $$$'s then they are no different from EA and all the other money grabbing corporations that we have to live with day in day out.
TBH they did an awesome job and out of the millions you bank yearly you could offset this easily. Stop being greedy FFS!

Eve-TV kept me connected to the game. After watching an episode, I couldn't wait to log on. Now I find myself setting at the log in screen wondering if I really want to play. The crew did a tremendous job! It is indeed a travesty that they are gone. I implore you to reconsider your decision.

Unfortunately, if you fail in something there is a very high probability that you were not so excellent and successfull as you thought.
So maybe there was something wrong in evetv (it could be the business model, the show, or anything else) or at least something that needs to be improved.
I believe that simply saying "It was good, believe me. Don't close it and found it in the exact same way it was. If you don't do it you are very short sighted." is not the right approach to the problem: if you copy something that has failed, it will fail again.
My two cents
Sempaia Tenda P.S. i really enjoyed my time watching evetv, it is a pity they close it.

Eve-TV made me feel like the world of New Eden was much more than just logging on. It brought character to conflicts and shed light to areas of the game which were previously unknown to me. I became more interested and even bought my 4th account and joined the great war of the south. It was exciting to see my alliance reported on and to see the developments from month to month. It was STUPID of ccp to not continue the project and they are very short sighted. CCP please stop being little bit*chs and recognize what is good for the game is to promote a sense of community and depth to this world that some of us have given two years of our lives to and countless hours each day. I have made friends and lost friends in this game. We have made funerals for RL deaths and named outposts in honor of lost comrades. Understand that it is the little things like this that make the game what it is. Pease do reconsider.

Just to add to this, I saw part of an episode of Eve TV (it may have actually been on television here in the UK, I can't remember for sure) and it was a good incentive to try the game out. I don't think I would've bothered otherwise.

Maybe it could be funded by CCP but players could be allowed to donate to help keep it running Weapons Linking |

EVE-TV was awsome. For other options for income. Look at normal camercials. I'm sure places that sell gamer stuff and PC gaming hardware would love to advertise. Not just use the lamest VISA ad I've ever seen.
Half of advertising is getting people to want to see the ad, the other is getting them to confirm they saw it.

I feel like a nice EvE Online cartoon could be created and aired on EvE TV once or twice a week.

Bumpy signage.
CCP stuck with Eve itself when it was a small niche, why can't they do the same for EVE-TV. ------------------------------- http://www.save-evetv.com/ |

I'd love to see this come back in some more regular format beyond special events only. Weekly may be a stretch, monthly would be good.
The community is the main reason why I picked up the game, and I think EveTV was a big part of the community.
