I've been playing with Typhoon fittings, and a thought occurred to me. This ship is designed to make it stupid to fit damage mods. So, I came up with this fit:
High: 4x Dual 650mm II - Republic Fleet EMP L or Barrage L 4x 'Arbalast' Siege - Caldari Navy Bane or Mjolnir torps
Med: Quad lif MWD Web II Disruptor II TP II
Low: 2x 1600mm RT 3x Specific Hardener II DCU II EANM II
Drone: 5x Ogre I (II if possible) 5x med ECM
Rig: 3x Trimark
With my skills, I get about 800dps, with a 7 slot tank and no damage mods. With T2 drones, I would be up to around 900dps. Trimarks are optional, without them the ship is practically disposable IMO.
Alternatively, one could go with 3x EANM II, 3x 1600mm RT, DCU II, and be mostly immune to neuts. Tank would be slightly weaker (almost negligible) but the ship would also be much slower.
Typhoon is a beast.

If this is for solo pvp, lose some resists and get more platage. Also, phoon does fine with damage mods. Post-trin just use BCUs to buff up the new sexy torpedos.

Seems to me the Typhoon receives less from each damage mod than any other ship, so you might as well not use any at all. Also, now that I think about it... a 4th plate does fit if I use a 3% powergrid implant, and gives a good bit extra real HP. Not a bad idea. -----

Erm. I really hate what plates do to my ships (sorry Goum, I know you love them).
Also, any ship with 7 lows is *MADE* to fit at least 2 damage mods. ;-)

Even when 2 damage mods give something like 10% more DPS, while 2 plates give something like 45% more tank? -----

Yeah, imho. Besides, 45% more tank and 100% less mobility?

I don't plan to use it until after the torp-change and I get some skills up.
Also, the war isn't over. I plan to re-dec you after a few days of isk-making.

2 BCU II will give it a fair bit more dps, not 10%. The important point is if someone tanks 600 dps and you do 700, you are only leaking 100 dps. If you did 800 dps, you are in effect doing double the effective dps.
Anyhow, the new torps are too uber not to use BCUs.
3 plates, 2 EANMII, 1 DCUII, and 1 BCUII. |

Ah, you're right, it's more than 10% with 2.
Torpedos do about 44% of my DPS (with T1 drones), so a BCU II, giving 22.9% more torp DPS, gives an overall 10.0% increase in DPS. The 2nd one brings me up to 21% more DPS. With T2 drones, it shifts to 8.9% and 18.5% dps.
The plates, in comparison, give 21.8 and 17.8% more tank, or around 43.5% more more tank with both.
I'll try both with the BCU(s) and without.

I usually go without a web. ACs and torps are very nice to fire outside of web range, just about at disruptor range. Of course if you want to solo, the web comes in handy. I like the Typhoon.

Mmm looks nice. I would swap the AB for a MWD though, and the cap recharger for a painter. -----

It fits if you use dual 650's, or T1 torps. I can't use T2 torps. -----

Suicidal typhoon. No MWD? One plate with 1 dcu.. it will pop the moment something looks at it. |

this setup hasnt died in 1vs1 to any bs yet. even a gank blaster thron got owned :D (sadly its test server stuff)
after torp buff this is going to be awesome :D
4xdual 425mm t2 whit hail, 4x siege t2 whit rage torps mwd t2, warp disruptor t2, web t2, pwnage painter 4x 1600mm plates, 2x ean, dcu
3x trimark rigs
and dont forget heavy drones.
i dont use dmg mods because they only benefit 1/3 of your weapons (phoons dmg comes from drones, torps, acs) and it does enough dps(over 1k whit good skills)whitout them :D
that fit is very good in a small close range bs gang. works ok in duels because you can out last anyhting pretty much and dish out ubber dps. oh.. and no need for inj.. as only thing takeing cap are disruptor, web, painter, dcu... and if u need mwd ofc :D but thats a backup really.. not the fastest ship whit 4 plates :D

Looks good, low cap, limited life span. Having rigs really makes a huge difference on the tank. If you wanted to rig it, drop a plate for a large repairer II. Only problem with that though is that you gotta find the power to fit it.
It really comes down to how long you expect the ship to last. if the ship is gonna last one minute, then the repairer will give you more HP than the plate will over the time. The tank is what the phoon is build for. Uses no cap for weapons, has better range from it's weapons than blasters give. You can prolly even drop the MWD to give you a lot of extra cap since you have no booster or cap giving modules.
As far as your resist modules, those look good if your not get cap killed. Dropping to all passive will mean you will take much more damage. At the moment you should be looking at 75%+ resistances. If you drop those to 65% you'll be taking 40% more damage. for example 1000 DPS on 75% is 250 DPS. 1000 DPS on 65% is 350 DPS. These are things you gotta look at. -------------------------------------- ---"What's in your wallet?"--- "There are two kinds of respect, fear and admiration.... I'll take what I can get" |

Well if ppl cant use autocanons im thinking about , 4xSiege , 4x e500 neutralaiz 2x heavy electro boosterts with 800`s , MicrowarpDrive , target painter 3x hardeners , damage control , 2xnanofiber , inertia stab 3x pg rigs
Only in gang action , coz almost no tank but 1800+ km/s anyway this is for low sec small/med gang , u can nuke all tacklers with neutralaizerz and if u see trouble just turn on mwd and go out. bs`ses wont catch you , smaller ships will be nuked by neutralizer . U should have strong tanked friend in bs or smf wich one should be primary.

How come you all keep referring to plates and resist mods as a 'tank' while its nothing more than a HP buffer? Tanking is defined as repping incoming damage, not outlasting your enemy with sheer HP.
Not saying it cant be effective, i'm definetly going to try torpedoes with the new improvements. Sig removed for the third time, inappropriate content. Sig Locked. If you would like further details please mail [email protected] - Cortes |

Well, if you survive and your enemy is floating in a pod then its clear that your tank was sufficient isn't it?
Buffertanks are win btw. Don't have EFT here at work, but I'd say that it would take a very long time for an active tank to be able to match the effective HP of a Buffertank.

Oxymoron. This is all about buffers. Tanking is repping incoming damage, and none of these setups has a repper. Sig removed for the third time, inappropriate content. Sig Locked. If you would like further details please mail [email protected] - Cortes |
