New to EVE. Trying to be a Trader. Haven't learned Marketing or Procurement yet.
So I used the advanced marketplace screen to place my first buy order (for the Marketing skillbook). When I went through the process I noticed I was allowed to select from a pulldown menu how far I wanted to set the order. That is: Station, 5 jumps, 10 jumps, all the out to 40 jumps.
I'm trying to understand how this works because I thought you needed Procurement to set remote buy orders. Maybe what I was looking at wasn't the same thing.
Could someone clarify?

You need a special skill to set buy orders for multiple jumps.. Though I can't think of the skill right now.

You do not need any skills to set the range of the buy order, if you are creating that order to be centered on the station where you are docked.
Procurement allows you to create buy orders in stations other than where you are docked. It can also be used to create buy orders when you are in space. Buy orders created using Procurement are limited to having a range of just one station.
Visibility allows you to create buy orders in the same way as Procurement, but allows you to set the range of those buy orders to any range you choose, instead of being limited to station.

You're not setting a remote buy order, you're placing an order from the station you're in. The Set Range window is for the range of that buy order, in a radius around your current station. You don't need skills for a buy order that covers a set range.
What Procurement does is allow you to set a station-only buy order in a station that you aren't at. You can't do that with the default options. Visibility, by extension, allows you to adjust the range on that remote buy order. I could set a 5-jump range buy order at a station from across the region with Procurement 5 Visibility 2.
