Some people say Honor in EVE is a myth. Some people say that EVE is a place where no one can be trusted. Some people say that there is no friendship between æRedsÆ.
Firstly let me say this: Honor, Trust, and Friendship are things that I have witnessed first hand with Firmus Ixion. Among enemies there are none that I would call more honorable then FIX.
For as long as I can remember FIX have been an alliance that we have been in constant conflict with. We have shared more fights then I can count. We have been in some of the most volatile and explosive conflicts to light the face of EVE.
But I also remember my time from well before that. I was still learning the ropes of EVE and was just another noob. Over 3 years ago I stumbled into a FIX gate camp while traveling to some random system to pick up some trade stuff. I had my fancy +2 implants and a mwd fitted frigate. I still remember the FIX camp killing me. I was in shock and remember contacting the guy who podded me. He told me I was red to them which came as a big shock. Surprised I explained that my corp was a small corp that didnÆt get involved in 0.0 affairs and we shouldnÆt be red. Within 5 min the corp standings were corrected and I was reimbursed for the implants and the frigate.
This stranger who didnÆt know me went out of his way to help me and correct an insignificant wrong. That left an impression that to this day still sits in my heart. He could have ignored me but he trusted me and he helped me.
The pilots of FIX are, for the most part, good guys. We are enemies but we are also friends. I hope that remains a fixed constant in EVE. For all who should care, FIX as an alliance has thus far withstood the test of time. I hope, and I say this with all honesty, that FIX will still be standing when EVE ends.
Among æRedsÆ there are no others who I would say this to. Each alliance has a spirit and I hope that the spirit of FIX remains what it has always been: Integrity, Honor, Stubbornness, Resilience, and Faith.
From the Realm of the Drunkards I give Firmus Ixion a o/ of Respect. Hopefully our future will still see one another as friends and rivals. Until then, see you in space for some pew pew.

congrats, FIX! no easy task to survive as a rather small alliance in so contested a region well done!
JK-FIX was the first area we felt at home those long past days. when it was time to leave it was both sad and yeah cool something new ... however, the great fights around A2 and 9CG6 I'll never forget --- Don¦t panic

FIX has never been a pet, we are not pets now and never will be pets. IF we had no honor, backbone, pride or integrity we would have buckled under the pressure and stabbed our allies in the back, as some sorry ass cowardly attempt to save our own skin but that isn't going to happen. because our allies are just that, our allies, you stupid, dumb ****s. FIX will go down fighting tooth n nail before we ever turn on a friend, especially when that friend needs our help. how many of you little pis ants out there can say that? how many of you little smack talking trolling, flame bait****gots have enough balls to stand strong in the face of the Blob and laugh? none of you. your allies are those of convenience and at the first sign of trouble we will see who are true.
FIX will always have it's word and when we give our word EVERYONE knows that we will not betray that.
As long as that dillusional attitude exists your will always be subservient to Bob. Which is a shame because FIX can be great again.
But if handing over space, a station and moons to MC because master Bob told you to is not being a pet, then I dont know what is.

It's called diplomacy. The term "pet" is a word that is thrown around to discredit any alliance that is not at the top of the food chain on their respective side. It's nonsense.

ahh its a good point but..QDF and CFS were never allies, they were not enemies either, just more of a you annoy me and you annoy me type of affair for the most, CFS commanders held most of the Q corps in contempt and having said that most of the QDF commanders held CFS in contempt, was a funny thing.

has been a pleasure to have spent all of my 0.0 life with FIX. i was recruited to a training corp with a promise from Kashre that "there will be plenty of targets" in response my questioning where my new home would be. It was near the tail end of CODA. LOL. Great memories.
Happy birthday FIX.
Excellent write up Av. I've read it 3 or 4 times since first seeing it some months ago on internal forums. Long live FIX, and kudos to the leaders, like Av, that have stuck around to see FIX through to the end. Warning: Never name your char by anything starting with an A... sig stolen from Apolyon I. I admit I found the relatinsips between participants confusing but I got the impression that the QDF was officially a part of CFS - the response given to Heavyg along the lines of "why would we attack our own space" regarding their intentions towards the QDF. Certainly sounds like it was a really messy/doomed situation, heading rapidly towards combustion and that the CFS's time had come. I read the Chronicles as in part a confession by Avernus of something he did that left a bad taste in his mouth. Was this act of "damnation," Fix's original sin so to speak, intended to be the last?
No intention to flame or troll it is just that the Chronicles are a damn good read because they touch on such juicy/fundamental questions.

Very cool question!
The CFS was 3 regions of free space; back at this time, there was only a single entrance that accessed all three regions, and that came through Querious. Anyone was free to use the space as long as they were basically law abiding. All the QDF corporations were independant corps, while two of them in particular originally started out in the CFS. BA was actually one of the 4 founding corporations, and IT joined within the first two weeks of it's existance. By the time each corp left, they were the oldest remaining corp of the CFS, and they had each done so immediately after having held the Presidential position in it. When BA left, IT was the next corp to hold the position, and when they left, Conrad was the next President.
Many people in the CFS had felt betrayed by each corps departure. Interestingly enough, Conrad's own corporation (SolarFlare Heavy Industries) had moved to depart the CFS during his own term (it was the decision of his CEO, Arowyn, not himself), and during the war were actually dual members of both the CFS and the Stain Alliance. There was a whole couple more chapters worth of writing had I touched into the byplay involved from some of the stresses this caused, many of the ex-CFS corps after the war did in fact join SA, and the strong negative emotions towards FIX that went with them had a definate impact on the future (and the many wars between SA and FIX to come).
Even though we didn't have a name yet, we knew that the QDF was going to become a full fledged alliance a few weeks before the war started. Avariel (CEO of BA at the time) and myself were both in continious contact with the CFS government, and Conrad in particular, and we were called upon for advice and as a sounding board on regular basis.
Basically everything came to a head. FIX was going to happen very soon, and I, Droewa and Nez were in a meeting with Conrad. He was telling us about the UFS, and wanting the QDF to become partners in it. We didn't dislike the CFS so much as having no faith in them. During that meeting, I realised that I didn't want FIX to be tied to the CFS in any way, and I saw an opportunity to clear a path for a 'clean' foundation for FIX; our own space, our own rules, no ties to anyone. <- also the reason FIX has caught so much flak for these past years for not being the spitting image of our origins.
The QDF had a great deal of emotional investment in our future, I was no exception, so I took the opportunity presented to me on a platter and mislead Conrad into believing the QDF would support the CFS in this move on the FA stations. FIX was to be based upon some very fundamental values, and if the whole of the QDF was involved in a deception or aggression to our host, the CFS, then it would tarnish the alliance before it was even born.
On this occasion, I let the ends to justify the means.

Other then Av's response, there was another fleet persepctive at the time. QDF consisted primarily of corporations that left CFS, or resided in the JK-FIX region (aka Querious). The CFS had military issues. It was during the time ImpTech was in CFS and held presidency that we tried to upgrade the CFS Navy. While there were some good attempts made, the effort as a whole failed. When the presidency was up, we left. We stayed in JK-FIX and became a resident corp. We worked with other resident corps and we defended ourselves. The military might of the CFS was mostly non-existant. The resident corps grew closer and closer as time went on and eventually some that worked really well together banded into the QDF.
When the QDF turned into FIX, not all QDF members followed along either.
It's been a long time. Good to see old faces and friends in here. As well as old corpmates :) (hey there swin and USN ;p )
The future is wide open, we'll see what it brings, but I got a feeling FIX will still be around for some time yet :)

Happy Birthday FIX.
With so many Alt accounts it's a bit silly to consider "enemies" as anything other than "other people who play with a different corp/alliance tag".
When I first arrived in 0.0 - I got the impression that there was only about 100 people playing the game and at least 50 of those were playing more than one side. Which is fair enough.
Pew pew makes New Eden thrive, without constant warfare, the economy will stagnate.
And the phrase "Keep your friends close and your enemies closer" is never truer than in New Eden, especially as it's a complete and utter drag to travel 20+ jumps for some combat action.
If there's no honor, there's no real friendship and if there's none of that then basically we are all wasting our time playing a game we usually love, or in certain circumstances, love to hate.
No matter how many rest breaks people take they usually always come back because there is no better game out there than this one.
Again, happy birthday, may your alliance last and that's the main thing. Alliances that break up just because they lose their old home isn't an alliance being led properly.

Sphal, no disrespect was meant by not including either Avariel or Mindecho in the Chronicle. Avariel was increasingly inactive and on the cusp of burnout during the two week time period in which this story took place; OMN was a corp that had a extremely independant streak (even more so than the rest of us at the time) and trying to write them into the story concisely was problematic in the least.
If the story had taken place only a few months earlier (and there is more than enough material for it), then BA, IT and OMN would feature very prominently in it (as would a couple Euro based corps). While a fair number of corps were fighting, it was Nez who did the ground work of talking to CEO's to get them involved in the QDF 'officially'. IT and BA were the last two to sign on, while OMN never really did if I recall it right, primarily because all 3 corps were perfectly happy with the way we conducted our defense of the region, and none of us wanted to get pulled into a bureaucracy that we were all sick of from the CFS (especially OMN who were mostly ex-CFSN pilots).
Honestly, I'd have loved to highlight many others involved in pre-FIX, but this Chronicle is simply in the wrong time period for many of the people that actually forged a home out of Querious in the early days, and made it a viable region that allowed for the birth of FIX.
There are old soliders, and there are bold soliders. But there are very few old, bold soliders. |
