Yeah, I know you're waiting for me to announce that FIX is dead...
As of last night, Firmus Ixion is officially 3 years old as an IGA alliance. While 3FA remains in-game with it's 21 members, we're the '2nd oldest' IGA in Eve; in practicality, we are the oldest dog on the block, and no matter how many times people have tried to put us down, how many times they have sought our demise and predicted our impending doom, we're still here.
If you like us, we like that you like us.
If you don't like us, shampoo my crotch.
In celebration of our 3 year benchmark as an IGA, it's my pleasure to share a slice of our illustrious history with you all; our beginning. The Chronicle
Forged in Conflict, Avernus.
There are old soliders, and there are bold soliders. But there are very few old, bold soliders. |

Vasili, that would be Nez, and I'd be disappointed if he didn't turn up for this particular thread... he's in the story after all. IGA = in-game alliance; prior to eve mechanics allowing for alliances, FIX was already around, but was also one of the first alliances to adopt the available mechanics when the option became available. I believe of the first 10 that were created, only 3 exist still. FIX, UNITY, and CVA.

OMG i just read the whole thing. Avernus this is so classic. You brought back in writing the history written by many involved and forged Fix Alliance.
To all those that were involved a Big Thank You especially the Leadership and to the QDF Defense force which included many many great Admirals, Captains and Enlisted Pilots. This was a great read and brought back great memories.
Big Thanks to Avernus for bringing this forward.

You simply pay MC to come save your collective butts or go running to BOB every time sum one comes along and has at you. If it wasn't for those two your collective stuffy alliance would be dead.

Originally by: Avernus Vasili, that would be Nez, and I'd be disappointed if he didn't turn up for this particular thread... he's in the story after all. Congrats on making the three years. It is an achievement whether or not you relied on allies to reach the milestone. Lots of other alliances had allies too and they don't exist anymore!
Also like the writing of your chronicle. If I had more freetime I would try and write something similar for the CVA
On that subject CVA/FIX history has intersected at a few points. Imperial Dreams - one of the CVA powerhouse corps - was originally a CFS member - as a result there is (to this day) still some bad blood - about the creation of FIX even if most of the parties on both sides have been recycled since then.
It is probably this fact that made CVA more likely to intervene to assist IAC during 'Operation Prohibition'.
It is one of the most enjoyable things about EVE that there is history and collective memory which persists - where reputations and actions in the past can have an impact on how you are respected/treated in the modern day!
Finally on the whose alliance is older 'bragging' front CVA existed as an 'informal' alliance from around three months into EVE with PIE/Imperial Dreams and a couple of other pro-Amarr corps involved.
So even though you beat us to the IGA button we are older - so na na na na nah
Seriously though well done. I personally (not having an involvement in CFS) have always actually liked FIX and its achievements as I have always had a soft spot for the underdog

Happy Birthday QDF/FIX,
I was the founder of the Star Alliance, so always nice to read a bit of history. Brought back some memories, I once tried to make a little write up on the eve wiki about the conflict, but as english is not my native language and there are also other things that keep eating my time I never could finish it so that it would cover the whole conflict in such a good way as your write up Avernus.
From my memories StA never had the intention (and did not know it was planned) to attack QDF, we just wanted to "free" the Stations we defended everyday from FA. We always wanted you on our side or at least let you rest neutral if you whish, and as we heard that CFS attacked QDF and their stations we could just shake our heads and knew that it would be near impossible to win the war as the supply lines were cut. In my opinion QDF was the last straw in this conflict that fix(ed) the outcome of the revolt. Sadly to our loss, but it was a pleasure to fight you.
So I whish you good luck.
With best regards, PSEWAR

On an individual basis, each member is as positive and friendly as the next, and will help you to no end.

I have been both friends and enemies with FIX.. and i've got to say they are probably the strongest minded group in the game.. Various enemies have spent years trying to break their will, and have always failed.. pilots and corps wanting to learn what living in 0.0 truely takes could do far worse than join these guys..

Happy Bday!
From the first days of IT I remeber, to being alone in the A2 [pipe] with a new freshly backed rax (thanks sil) when QDF was a white tad pole in they eye of those that had been oppressd to invasion of the free to my final days making Bob feel the pain taking a stab at FaT will always leave me happy and pride ridden,
Times change but a god spirit still remains and the backbone that was left after Battle Angles and the Triad. U know first hand what monsters we have become, at this point Id like those of u who like a bit of fun to join me in a toast to Avs corpse (its my own, my presciiiiiiiooooouuuuuusssseee) :) still uneaten and mounted on the wall, Marko will never forgive me, so as u proberly guess I got to be the one with mop when IAC dropped a hauler with dodgy wine on purpose not so long ago. Aint that right bosses :)
best wishes in ur days to come,
Happy B day to all those old faces and new ones,

All these people that are trolling us for still being here due to allied help amaze me. There are very few...if ANY alliances in Eve today that could have withstood attacks such as those that FIX have had to endure, totally alone.
DUH. Of course an alliance being attacked by 4 or 5 times it's own size is going to require allies at some stage. Hypothetically, if the whole force of Bob, MC, and a dozen northern alliances attacked Goonswarm singularly, or -A- singularly, and they DIDN'T call for allied help, I would personally label them idiots.
Think before you troll in future ;) You can call us pets all you want to, we don't really care. We don't care that you've stated the obvious about our allies being a part of our survival either, you could say that about almost any alliance today that has been seiged in the past.

FYI: there were 10 founding FIX corps, not 12.
BTW - happy birthday FIX.
I have a lot of old logs that say otherwise, I tried to stay as true to the actual events and details as possible, while still crafting a well reading story. For example, Heavyg's question to the CFS was taken directly from the old CFS forum, as were the specific replies from individuals that responded (while that forum no longer exists, I saved some of the specific threads to my harddrive, and drew upon them heavily for the story; the responses by Andrew Redburn, Alexander Rahl, and Conrad are what they actually said). My conversations with Conrad alongside Nez and Droewa are also based in reality, and yes I did mislead him down a path that lead him to believe that the QDF wanted to see the CFS take the FA stations; the final conversation between Conrad and myself also took place.
If your beef was with the supposed intelligence assets available to me at the time of the war, and just prior to it, I had full access to the CFS forums, along with Avariel (CEO of BA). I was able to see everything at all levels of access (access granted to me by the forum owner, a friend of Avariel, as well as by Conrad himself). I also had people within the CFS that reported information of interest to me.
I took the time to go through not just old forums and logs, but also killboards and in-game details (details like Heavyg's noob corp, Sheppard flying a Megathron, or like Afecks flying a Raven. I don't know if Afecks was specifically in that ship for the war or when he made his movies, but I seem to recall finding that was his primary ship choice).
Do I have everything that happened during the war in my story? Obviously not, the story would be ten times the length otherwise. I stuck to what I had a direct hand in and could verify with logs.
The phrase shampoo my crotch was originally by Darien towards you in the old FIX forum when you were being an asshat as per usual. I always thought it was a great turn of phrase.
Legionari joined 1 month after FIX formed. Considering their very long term in FIX, I wanted to do them the honour of listing them with the Founders. Genx Corp departed FIX very early on, but they were on the original list. Federation and AQM mergered and then unfortunately disbanded right around the time of FIX's foundation, but their pilots fought in the war, and are represented in the story by Snapshot and Havoc. Which corp do you refer too?

In my four years of Eve I've fought against and alongside FIX many times. Always been fun.
One memorable fight against them was in FAT-6P. Align, warp, align, target, shoot for five seconds, get locked, warp, hope you got on a kill mail, rinse, repeat for twelve hours straight. It was intense. Eventually they got my Arma. This was back in the days of 8x Heatsink IIs and five Tachs.

IIRC I remember a battle back in Syndicate with something like 4 pure-gank BS vs 4 other pure-gank BS... I think one survived, it lasted like 30-40 seconds

Nice write up Aver as always.
AQM was a founding member of FIX... if we got voted out before or after FIX became an IGA I would need to check. We were voted out when I informed Nez (in confidence so I thought) that the majority of AQM was taking some time away from game and I was uncertain if they were going to return.
I will pass the link onto the AQM forums.. I'm sure they will like the read. To bad Snapshot has fallen off the face of the earth and no one knows what he is up to in r/l or I'm sure he would appreciate the read.

As long as we're drawing comparisons, it's kinda like how the Goons being the largest alliance isn't an accomplishment since they have a quantity over quality policy on recruitment and accept every l33t 12-year-old who borrowed his daddy's credit card. Weird.

its why Hunters Agency joined the best allaince in game.
Fix is also the reason why there are so many good admirals out there in eve. they all started out in FIX. some then Move to BOB, MC or Outbreak and you know there rep!!
Because we fight every day, against fantastic odds, its the reason why we are good at what we do. Our enemies have made us what we are, they in truth have made us stronger, more resiliant, more flexible and more stubborn but above all more honourable..

S3VYN currently doesn't play, his computer hardware has a serious disagreement with Eve, something sound related if I recall correctly. I showed him some of the upcoming stuff for Trinity however (brand new engine after all, and yeah he was blown away be the graphics), it's very likely he'll be back for more Eve.

Very nice read. The CFS war was for me (in FA at the time) one of the most interesting periods in EVE politics. Most wars involve some alliances shooting each other for tenuous, or no, reasons. But in that conflict the different goals, ideologies, actions of, and power relationships between CFS, FA, QDF and even outside influence from CA added a fantastic texture to the episode. Those two weeks of conflict were proceeded by 8+ months of build-up, and leave echoes in the area today. Most notably in the continued (stubborn ) existence of FIX. Grats. _

Glad to see so many old faces in here.
I do want to comment a little here on the negative posts...
FIX has never been a pet, we are not pets now and never will be pets. IF we had no honor, backbone, pride or integrity we would have buckled under the pressure and stabbed our allies in the back, as some sorry ass cowardly attempt to save our own skin but that isn't going to happen. because our allies are just that, our allies, you stupid, dumb ****s. FIX will go down fighting tooth n nail before we ever turn on a friend, especially when that friend needs our help. how many of you little pis ants out there can say that? how many of you little smack talking trolling, flame bait****gots have enough balls to stand strong in the face of the Blob and laugh? none of you. your allies are those of convenience and at the first sign of trouble we will see who are true.

Some people say Honor in EVE is a myth. Some people say that EVE is a place where no one can be trusted. Some people say that there is no friendship between æRedsÆ.
Firstly let me say this: Honor, Trust, and Friendship are things that I have witnessed first hand with Firmus Ixion. Among enemies there are none that I would call more honorable then FIX.
For as long as I can remember FIX have been an alliance that we have been in constant conflict with. We have shared more fights then I can count. We have been in some of the most volatile and explosive conflicts to light the face of EVE.
But I also remember my time from well before that. I was still learning the ropes of EVE and was just another noob. Over 3 years ago I stumbled into a FIX gate camp while traveling to some random system to pick up some trade stuff. I had my fancy +2 implants and a mwd fitted frigate. I still remember the FIX camp killing me. I was in shock and remember contacting the guy who podded me. He told me I was red to them which came as a big shock. Surprised I explained that my corp was a small corp that didnÆt get involved in 0.0 affairs and we shouldnÆt be red. Within 5 min the corp standings were corrected and I was reimbursed for the implants and the frigate.
This stranger who didnÆt know me went out of his way to help me and correct an insignificant wrong. That left an impression that to this day still sits in my heart. He could have ignored me but he trusted me and he helped me.
The pilots of FIX are, for the most part, good guys. We are enemies but we are also friends. I hope that remains a fixed constant in EVE. For all who should care, FIX as an alliance has thus far withstood the test of time. I hope, and I say this with all honesty, that FIX will still be standing when EVE ends.
Among æRedsÆ there are no others who I would say this to. Each alliance has a spirit and I hope that the spirit of FIX remains what it has always been: Integrity, Honor, Stubbornness, Resilience, and Faith.
From the Realm of the Drunkards I give Firmus Ixion a o/ of Respect. Hopefully our future will still see one another as friends and rivals. Until then, see you in space for some pew pew.

It's called diplomacy. The term "pet" is a word that is thrown around to discredit any alliance that is not at the top of the food chain on their respective side. It's nonsense.

ahh its a good point but..QDF and CFS were never allies, they were not enemies either, just more of a you annoy me and you annoy me type of affair for the most, CFS commanders held most of the Q corps in contempt and having said that most of the QDF commanders held CFS in contempt, was a funny thing.

I admit I found the relatinsips between participants confusing but I got the impression that the QDF was officially a part of CFS - the response given to Heavyg along the lines of "why would we attack our own space" regarding their intentions towards the QDF. Certainly sounds like it was a really messy/doomed situation, heading rapidly towards combustion and that the CFS's time had come. I read the Chronicles as in part a confession by Avernus of something he did that left a bad taste in his mouth. Was this act of "damnation," Fix's original sin so to speak, intended to be the last?

No intention to flame or troll it is just that the Chronicles are a damn good read because they touch on such juicy/fundamental questions.
Very cool question!
The CFS was 3 regions of free space; back at this time, there was only a single entrance that accessed all three regions, and that came through Querious. Anyone was free to use the space as long as they were basically law abiding. All the QDF corporations were independant corps, while two of them in particular originally started out in the CFS. BA was actually one of the 4 founding corporations, and IT joined within the first two weeks of it's existance. By the time each corp left, they were the oldest remaining corp of the CFS, and they had each done so immediately after having held the Presidential position in it. When BA left, IT was the next corp to hold the position, and when they left, Conrad was the next President.
Many people in the CFS had felt betrayed by each corps departure. Interestingly enough, Conrad's own corporation (SolarFlare Heavy Industries) had moved to depart the CFS during his own term (it was the decision of his CEO, Arowyn, not himself), and during the war were actually dual members of both the CFS and the Stain Alliance. There was a whole couple more chapters worth of writing had I touched into the byplay involved from some of the stresses this caused, many of the ex-CFS corps after the war did in fact join SA, and the strong negative emotions towards FIX that went with them had a definate impact on the future (and the many wars between SA and FIX to come).
Even though we didn't have a name yet, we knew that the QDF was going to become a full fledged alliance a few weeks before the war started. Avariel (CEO of BA at the time) and myself were both in continious contact with the CFS government, and Conrad in particular, and we were called upon for advice and as a sounding board on regular basis.
Basically everything came to a head. FIX was going to happen very soon, and I, Droewa and Nez were in a meeting with Conrad. He was telling us about the UFS, and wanting the QDF to become partners in it. We didn't dislike the CFS so much as having no faith in them. During that meeting, I realised that I didn't want FIX to be tied to the CFS in any way, and I saw an opportunity to clear a path for a 'clean' foundation for FIX; our own space, our own rules, no ties to anyone. <- also the reason FIX has caught so much flak for these past years for not being the spitting image of our origins.
The QDF had a great deal of emotional investment in our future, I was no exception, so I took the opportunity presented to me on a platter and mislead Conrad into believing the QDF would support the CFS in this move on the FA stations. FIX was to be based upon some very fundamental values, and if the whole of the QDF was involved in a deception or aggression to our host, the CFS, then it would tarnish the alliance before it was even born.
On this occasion, I let the ends to justify the means.
There are old soliders, and there are bold soliders. But there are very few old, bold soliders. |

No intention to flame or troll it is just that the Chronicles are a damn good read because they touch on such juicy/fundamental questions.
Other then Av's response, there was another fleet persepctive at the time. QDF consisted primarily of corporations that left CFS, or resided in the JK-FIX region (aka Querious). The CFS had military issues. It was during the time ImpTech was in CFS and held presidency that we tried to upgrade the CFS Navy. While there were some good attempts made, the effort as a whole failed. When the presidency was up, we left. We stayed in JK-FIX and became a resident corp. We worked with other resident corps and we defended ourselves. The military might of the CFS was mostly non-existant. The resident corps grew closer and closer as time went on and eventually some that worked really well together banded into the QDF.
When the QDF turned into FIX, not all QDF members followed along either.
It's been a long time. Good to see old faces and friends in here. As well as old corpmates :) (hey there swin and USN ;p )
The future is wide open, we'll see what it brings, but I got a feeling FIX will still be around for some time yet :)

The functional components of QDF were pretty much all BA, IT and OMN. Late comers like Nez turned the nimble QDF into the pompous proto-pet of early FIX. Leaving Avariel and Mindecho out of a history of QDF is like forgetting TWD in a history of bob.

With so many Alt accounts it's a bit silly to consider "enemies" as anything other than "other people who play with a different corp/alliance tag".
When I first arrived in 0.0 - I got the impression that there was only about 100 people playing the game and at least 50 of those were playing more than one side. Which is fair enough.
Pew pew makes New Eden thrive, without constant warfare, the economy will stagnate.
And the phrase "Keep your friends close and your enemies closer" is never truer than in New Eden, especially as it's a complete and utter drag to travel 20+ jumps for some combat action.
If there's no honor, there's no real friendship and if there's none of that then basically we are all wasting our time playing a game we usually love, or in certain circumstances, love to hate.
No matter how many rest breaks people take they usually always come back because there is no better game out there than this one.
Again, happy birthday, may your alliance last and that's the main thing. Alliances that break up just because they lose their old home isn't an alliance being led properly.
Life is about memories the more the better. End Slavery. |

revisionist historylol
The functional components of QDF were pretty much all BA, IT and OMN. Late comers like Nez turned the nimble QDF into the pompous proto-pet of early FIX. Leaving Avariel and Mindecho out of a history of QDF is like forgetting TWD in a history of bob.
Congrats on sticking around for so long, but surviving isn't the same as achieving.
Sphal, no disrespect was meant by not including either Avariel or Mindecho in the Chronicle. Avariel was increasingly inactive and on the cusp of burnout during the two week time period in which this story took place; OMN was a corp that had a extremely independant streak (even more so than the rest of us at the time) and trying to write them into the story concisely was problematic in the least.
If the story had taken place only a few months earlier (and there is more than enough material for it), then BA, IT and OMN would feature very prominently in it (as would a couple Euro based corps). While a fair number of corps were fighting, it was Nez who did the ground work of talking to CEO's to get them involved in the QDF 'officially'. IT and BA were the last two to sign on, while OMN never really did if I recall it right, primarily because all 3 corps were perfectly happy with the way we conducted our defense of the region, and none of us wanted to get pulled into a bureaucracy that we were all sick of from the CFS (especially OMN who were mostly ex-CFSN pilots).
Honestly, I'd have loved to highlight many others involved in pre-FIX, but this Chronicle is simply in the wrong time period for many of the people that actually forged a home out of Querious in the early days, and made it a viable region that allowed for the birth of FIX.
There are old soliders, and there are bold soliders. But there are very few old, bold soliders. |

As kyguard said, 3rd Front has been gone for a while. LFC were keeping the IGA in cold storage for a special occasion, and noob that I am I forgot to pay the alliance bill last month.
So FIX *is* the oldest IGA, congrats on the 3year milestone -

They had setup the fleet to be in a position that the CFS fleet would be able to bypass them. In their own minds, it was almost like a test for the CFS. To be direct Conrad, the CFS failed the test when they attacked. At that moment, our Admirals made a binding agreement with FA. We agreed to ally ourselves with one another for the duration of this conflict, and see it through to the end.
I could be mistaken since this was a very long time ago but I do not remember it happening that way.
I was there, and we were in 7GCD-P at the jump-in. There was no way for CFS to go around unless they wanted to go to Sakht and through Delve. We set that gate camp up specifically to kill as many CFS as possible, which we did.
I don't remember there being any kind of test, we pretty much knew what CFS planned to do. Remember, the CFS forum administrator was QDF (ex-CFS) so we had a full mirror of their forum to read every day (including PMs.) There was no question about what CFS was going to do and any test that would have been set for them was designed for them to fail. We may have let some CFS go through the blockade but the bulk of the CFS force was annihilated by our gate camp with little to no warning on our part. I do remember getting word from FA that CFS was attacking and that being the point we opened fire.
At the end of the day CFS got what they deserved (as did QDF/FIX) but I question the accuracy of the chronicle. Maybe the story has been changed to make it more interesting? Clearly this is only part of the story and some extremely important players have been left out, which is disappointing. ----------

I must admit to being somewhat confused by Droewa insisting that Fix never betrays allies when the Chronicle details QDF betraying CFS in order to become FIX.
ahh its a good point but..QDF and CFS were never allies, they were not enemies either, just more of a you annoy me and you annoy me type of affair for the most, CFS commanders held most of the Q corps in contempt and having said that most of the QDF commanders held CFS in contempt, was a funny thing.

Dude... did I ever mention you OMN guys are hard to please?
Ofc, I wasn't there for the first fight, I was offline. All the details I got from that fight were second hand accounts, and I'll be honest, some of them were contradictory. I did say something along that line to Conrad though, and I also used it as propaganda in Eve-O at time (too pretty good effect, even if it wasn't accurate), which is why I present it in that manner in the story. The stories facts are going to be at their weakest in areas I wasn't present for.
For example, I have no clue if Heavyg was the one who started up the gang that fateful day... but he was an admiral, and he was more importantly, a recurring character that readers would be able to identify without further explanation. Each time I introduce a new character, I have to have a reason to put them in the spotlight... or it quickly turns into a crappy story.
The oldest players, the guys who were there for all this, are going to be the hardest to satisfy with this Chronicle. I forgot to add some people, others I deliberately left out because the story was in danger of turning into a list of names without a literary function. If I had delved into the whole backstory with how Querious was secured, and the major players, the Chronicle (while probably a much better read for the effort) would be way too long for me to write and would also require a hell of a lot of research on my part. I also think I shouldn't be the person to write it, I wasn't the one who forged Querious into a viable region, I was just a guy willing to back that effort with my corp. People like Avariel, Yodaron, Mardaniel, Cougar One, and yourselves as officers of BA at the time, would know far more about the inner workings and the initial settling of Querious and the Conquerable stations than I would (I was still in the CFS for nearly 2 or so months while the initial efforts occured before IT packed our bags and moved down to help).
When IT arrived, we were just getting started on earning our stripes the hard way, and we made a point not to ask for squat, but to simply be recognised purely on our actions (which ofc meant we waited for a lot of stuff a lot longer than other corps; standings, reduced docking fees, an office, etc. I wasn't the guy who helped figure out how to shape things, I was the guy that brought his whole corp to every fight we could... and because of that, I don't know who all the major players were, because I didn't interact with them in those early days.
It is for those reasons, and those actions, that IT became a trusted partner of BA and OMN... not because we talked a good talk.
In short, I know what I know, and I don't know what I don't know, and I didn't exclude important people or events on purpose.
(Just waiting for Cyther to post now to give me more heck on my shortfallings as a historian)
